Making unlocked skills cheaper/free in PvE

I've been playing GW for a long time now, but i'm not a farmer. So when I create a character I always have to play long time and repetitive play to try to get the skills for the characters again.

Most of the skills in tyria can be obtained free from quests. But if you create a core factions character, suddenly you find that you have to spend 1k for all those skills that you could get free from tyria. If you move you character to tyria, there is only a few skills you can get from quests.

With the coming of nightfall, the skills system will probably go the way of factions again where you have to pay for all your skills.

My suggestion is to make unlocked skills free. I think it's still ok to pay for skills you have never unlocked before and for Signet of Capture.

The prices for skills in factions is the same as in phrophecies , they start at 50G and they go up from there to a limit of 1000G.

So no i disagree with this option,I agree it can get boring repeating those starter quests, but you start out new so you should have new skills, its annoying at the moment already with people in ascalon lvl 5 with elite skills and droks armor , no need to give them skills that are way too good for those lower levels.

It makes no sense to change the pve skill system to resemble the pvp skill system. Just earn them like everybody else. This would also never happen in the wake of the pvp unlock packs. If all skills that are already unlocked are free, they wouldn't be pvp unlock packs anymore, they'd be "every skill for all your characters to do whatever you want with in all modes of play" packs.

I certainly wouldnt suggest free. That would take away the fun of actually achieving skills and it would be far too easy because getting skill points is easy enough.

Cheaper maybe. But i still think 1k should be the max amount, but it should take longer to move to the max cost.

He means that in Factions there aren't many skill quests so you have to spend a lot of money for skills. When this happens, only buy skills you really need.

/notsigned. That's what PvP chars are for.

Its been suggested before that you should be able to use items like imperial credits and such to buy skills and i think thats the best way to do it.

I forgot.. but don't Faction quest reward you with gold to let you have more freedom in buying the skill you want? I think they change to like that since Faction is expansion, and it is a better way for those who already have Prophices's skill to not repeat.

Actually, I want to see new item call Skill Token, which allow you to unlock one skill form a trainer for free. Could have that as a quest reward. Also more ways of getting that item which allow you to get 1 skill point (forgot what it is call).

Exactly what AJ said, you get 150 gold on average from quests from KC and on. All the Faction Quests give you 150 gold. Getting money is not hard at all, if you spend one day in the FoW you can buy plenty of skills. I understand what you mean because skill quests are more fun than farming for skills, but it was perfectly ballanced in Factions with the high XP and money from each quest. And when you finish a mission you get like 3 skill points and a decent amount of cash on masters.

Decent cash on masters? o_O You get 100g for standard, 150g for expert, and 200g for masters. Thats 450g total. Thats bad. Mission rewards should give you much more. You should be rewarded for going through the storyline. Farming is so boring.

Its not bad. Mixed with quests and drops you make enough money in the factions campaign to buy skills. Also most boss's drop greens so you may get a green along the way. And at the very end you can sell the amulet of the mists.

In prophecies you do have to farm. But there's Sorrows and Tombs there. Or if you don't want to group farm you can always solo farm. Its not hard and is cheaper than ever to start. Or you can solo outside of Gates to Kryta. Its not the best money, but you still get gold fairly fast, and if your doing it with a low level char you can even get him leveled.

If you don't want to buy skills make a PvP char.

I liked earning the skills through quests(basic skills) and buying higher end skills/capsigs later on in Tyria. The Factions way makes sense for a tyrian character(don't want to have to repeat quests to get a new basic skill). Why didn't they do this for factions as well? Other than a gold sink(and they give you some of the gold), all it does is send you to the skill trainer with money instead of getting it directly from the quest. And tyrians can just buy them in the higher end areas anyway. If someone could enlighten me please, as I've not taken a canthan character through yet.

on topic: /notsigned I don't farm, yet money hasn't been a concern for me in buying skills. But then I haven't started a factions character. Maybe its different from that angle.

Thing I don't like about it is, well, here's an example of what I did that drove me into being broke now.

Started a Tyrian warrior a long time ago, but got bored and deleted it after capping all the elites and having all the tyrian skills. Later on, when factions was out I re-created the warrior, but made it in factions. Didn't have hardly as many skills as my warrior in tyria started out with, and got through quests, nor could I go back to tyria and do the skill quests, because they aren't available I guess. In Tyria they started you off with more stances and defensive skills, along with some pretty good offensive skills it seemed like (correct me if I'm wrong). Hardly compares to starting a warrior in tyria, plus, all the skills seem to go up in price the higher your level gets. So, after all the armor purchases and runes, skill purchases, etcetera, I'm now broke constantly until my character gets all the skills needed. Every time I get 1k, I think about another skill I could use or need instead of saving it. Thank god I had some weapons sitting in my storage when I re-created my warrior, or I would really be sol. Kind of makes me not want to start anymore factions characters unless I farm for a month before hand. I wish I was able to go back to tyria and do the skill quests there, then come back. This is the most expensive character I've made so far it seems like.

I like the skill tokens idea, much better. Also, the skills for quests in tyria was a great system, why would they want to get rid of that?

Anyway, I don't really think the skills should be free, but I just want a different way of obtaining most of them, then buying the rest or capping, kind of like tyria.

I agree with making the skills you already unlocked cheap for your other characters... like 500g or so.

I do hope to see more skill related quests like those in the Pre-sear. They are really fun. Where first they give you a tempary skills, than a quest that make you use those skills. (like they could give you Storm Chaser, and with the quest of making you run pass a large group of elm mob..and such) It really help you learn to use that skill.. and make it seem all more useful. Of couse, those quest do need to take extra creative thinking from the Dev than the usual fed-ex quests.

(oh, another issue to consider about is the skill points. With skill-reward quest, you get an extra skill not only free of gold, but also skill points, which helps since in the later level, getting more skill points is a grind.)

-----------------------------------------------

Of couse.. in speaking of the skills... SKILL GEMS FTW!!!!!

that is YOUR problen not anything wrong with the game.

you didnt say i NEED this skill so i will earn the 1k to get it.

it is a case of i have 1k so how fast can i find something to spend it on.

funny...........you didnt need.............whatever it was until you had 1k to blow it on instead of saving it for something you might really need later

There was an old suggestion asking for characters who have completed the game to have any skills that the particular character had unlocked to be available to all future characters at a 25-50% reduction in price.

I'm definitely feeling the pain of raising a Canthan ele. Maybe I don't need *every* skill, but I would like to see all of my PvE characters PvP ready, and that requires a healthy amount of skills from each secondary in addition to my primary.

Factions characters get jipped. The gold reward from quests isn't enough to pay for skills (ie. if you do enough quests to get enough exp for 1 skill, you won't have enough gold) and quests that give 1 skill point as a reward most certainly don't give out enough gold to spend it. Even if you don't look at the quests that give out 1 skill from each of your professions, Tyrians also have a few quests that can be done for just their primary or secondary, which can be done for every profession as additional secondaries get unlocked. Cantha doesn't have an option to quest for skills from your other secondaries.

I would definitely like to see a discount for skills I've already unlocked, as well as a discount on Signet of Capture (it *used* to be half the price of a regular skill).

The skill system is great the way it is. I've had no problem getting the skills I need for any particular build either in terms of skill points or gold.

Just save your gold and get your skills as you need them. Since you've probably already unlocked them they shouldn't cost more than a few hundred gold to buy 8 skills. Starting at 50g and increasing as you buy your skills.

Well, i cant say i would /sign this petition based on cost alone, but it is rather difficult to get the skills you need in factions. The reduction of price is not the way to go with this.

The idea of making those monestery credits, imperial requisitions, luxon totems etc useable for skills is a better idea. I cant tell you how many of those side quests i just dont do, simply because theyre not rewarding... XP rewards are only useful to you to get to level 20, then theyre useless. You can get skill points faster by killing aatxes than by killing am fah. The idea is this:

Make the quests rewarding: You can pay for skills at the skill trainer with imperial requisitions/monestery credits. 3 credits per skill should be adequate enough to make the side quests rewarding.

I do agree with one thing tho, 1k per skill supports grind, which is against the original philosophy of the game, no matter how much you argue it. Sure you might always enough money to get all the skils you need, but what if you dont do a fow trip or an elite mission every night...you have to farm minos in elona reach, thats what. And lets face another thing, Factions pve has no variety. Once you get off of shing jea island, you dont fight a single animal until senji's corner or the kappas in the sewers, then not again until you get out of the city. Its such a chore to get out of the city its not fun.

Lets face another thing: you dont always know what skills you *need*

/signed, but not for price reduction, but in favor of making skills easier to get.

I think it is a great idea, obtaining skills which you have already obtained should not be as expensive as obtaining them for the first time. Factions grants you a handful of skills from several classes at the begining so you can test out several options and get a feel for different class strengths, so it doesn't actually give you less skills, it just gives you unrelated skills of which you will only be able to use about 5 or 7, and than you have to earn a great deal of medial skills at the begining, which hikes the starting price very quickly to 1k for many more skills than in prophecies. In prophecies you will barely pay 1k for a dozen skills by the time you finish the game if you quest for all the skills you can earn, but in factions you will easily be paying 1 k for the vast majority of your skills, and be broke long before you fill out all of your secondary proffessions skills.

I think this comes down to the focus of this game. People have come to the conclusion that GW is an RPG, even an MMO, but IMO, it is really a strategy, and that is the best part about it. Anet fames itself for axeing the grind (read the back of the Game of the Year Prophecies package), and that basicly means cutting down the Character Developement phases of the game and focusing on the "completed character" content. This is why levels stop at 20 and the challenge of the game is set for limited levels. But skill grind is still a very significant part of grind, just being level 20 means almost nothing, the right skill combinations, weapons and armor are everything, that plus player ability. If Anet really wants to axe the grind, they need to improve skill aquisition, the PvP package is a scam IMO, we need an inclusive function to earn skills faster, primarily for our PvE characters, as well as our PvP characters.

I can understand spending a significant amount of time unlocking and accessing brand new skills with new characters, but when it comes to repeating the game, repeating characters, even repeating the same class with a character replacement (because you didn't like the name or something), grinding for skill points and money to buy skills is downright grinding, and a tarnish on the games claim to "Axed the Grind". I say it is high time for some action behind their claims, and moving to the next level of grind reduction in GW.

Signed, but not for free, just cheaper, something like 500 gold instead of 1k. I play lot of pvp with my pve toon and I earn lots of balthazar points, but I can't use it for my character, I don't think it is logical.

If they did make them free, the PUP's would give you all skills for pvp and pve which would be very very bad.

well boko, i'm not shure how long u've been playing but it used to be that skills cost like anywhere from 100~300gp each(?). Then as tONYY stated in the SF update that all changed.

It's never bothered me, as 1k is nothing to make. You don't need to farm for that much. Yes, there are no skill quest in factions like in prophicies, but you also don't get money from quest like in prophicies, which over time builds up. Just palying through the game should get you enough money to buy the skills you see as nessecary.

Your not paying to "get" the skill. You are paying for the skill trainer to train you in the use of a particular skill in question.

Skill trainers are the only way of getting certains skills therefore they can charge what they like to teach them to others.

Unlocks are what we get for Factions of Balthazar in PvP, we arn't asking for unlocking which allows us to access skills on all of our characters, we are asking for the monitary cost of skill training to be reduced.

Please keep unassociated material out of this conversation, whether or not unlocks is allowed for PvE has nothing to do with cheaper/free skill training in PvE.

If you bother to read the very title of this thread, it says make unlocked skills cheaper/free in pve. So it is entirely relevant in every way. If skills you had already unlocked were made free, then unlocking skills through the ingame store would essentially also unlock them for pve. The idea of making them cheaper is still valid, but I was just pointing out that the notion of making them "free" is completely out the window.
