I Noticed there are three different things.
Pre release+ Starter kit(??) + Game.

The game and pre release is obvious. But whats the starter kit?

Well it could be added gold and a better starting weapon for you first character in that campeign. Say the access key for the game is special. Where whn you enter, it'll work with those added benefits to the first character yoo make. idk.

Starter kit is just another name for the PRE-RELEASE package. Its the same thing, just called something else by Gamestop. I am almost positive on this since it describes exactly what comes in the PreRelease package.

I agree, Gamestop is calling the pre-release a "starter kit."

Not surprised. If anyone could confuse their customers more, it's Gamestop.

(sorry, but my local Gamestop crew doesn't even have anything GW related coming out on Sept. 15)

Probably is just another name for the Pre-order Package. Either that, or another money making scheme like the PvP packs, and character slots. Whichever way, I'm buying it ;-)

Precisely, this is simply GameStop bundling the release packages with the Pre-Release bonus package and calling it a 'starter kit'. There's nothing new in what they're advertising except their name for the bundle.

oddly enough, when I went into the store to trade in a game and reserve the CE, the guy said that they don't have a bundle available. He had 3 sku's in the computer, the standard edition (49.95), the CE (69.95) and the Pre-Release pack (4.95). So if you placed an order in the store, and you want the pre-release pack, you may want to double check or go into the store on the 15th to pick one up.

...and the $5 US price tag for the combination of what was a freebie in the first two 'pre-order' packages, plus a character slot (no doubt justifying the $5 cost). Please, let us not forget that.

You sound bitter.

If you don't want it, don't buy it. Quit expecting to get stuff for "free."

(Although, the only way I know how to get the pre-order for Factions for "free" was to lie to the store and say you were going to buy Factions, and then decide not to. Who's scamming who here?)

What is wrong with them charging $5 for something that costs $9.95 plus a bunch of extra free stuff?

considering i placed an order for the CE+Prerelease (started kit) a week ago it seems like a typical gamestop mixup.

and received confirmation the next day

I'm not bitter at all, Mordakai, you read me completely wrong. I was just taking a fact and making it crystal clear for everyone who might be surprised that, after two free pre-order offerings, this one's going to cost them a few bucks, and is different in that way too, not just what Alex posted. In previous threads concerning this pre-release package, there were quite a few people who assumed that this would be free. (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...0015562&page=3)

As for scamming the store, shame on them. Before you got a pre-order at our local EB, they verify that you had indeed pre-ordered the game.

Nothing. It's just different than previous 'pre-order' packages, and is the first time they've charged for this. As I said above, I'm just pointing that out, since Alex didn't mention that as a difference.

Alex's post was talking about Gamestop calling the pre-release kit a Starter kit. The origional question was what is the starter kit and how is it different than the announced pre-release kit, and that is what Alex was addressing. Not the difference between Factions pre-order and Nightfall's pre-release.

My bad. Yes, you make a good point that this is indeed an additional cost, and will not be subtracted from the total cost.

And vinegrower, we're discussing the Nightfall pre-release, so I don't think it's off-topic at all! People are confused, and anytime correct information is posted, it's a good thing.
