A Birthday Present

I logged into my mesmer today, and found I had a blue and white box in my inventory, that said "Birthday Present". Its not my birthday, but the box said to double click to open. So I opened it, and up pops some armor. It said it was Miniture Jade Armor. Its the breast piece., but have no clue what its for, and why it was given to me.... Is it to replace a piece of the enchanters armor that I already have ???? Excuse me for being stupid... just wondering why I got this, and what to do with it lol

yay you got a minipet!
Eevery character gets one on their first birthday... there's several diffenret types, and they're all characters or monsters from either Prophecies or Factions.
A Jade Armor is a warrior type boss that escort Mursaat spellcasters in the latter stages of Prophecies... I'm guessing you haven't got that far if you thought it was an actual piece of armor!
next time you are in an explorable area, double-click the minipet, and watch it follow you around. That's all it does... purely for show, but people will buy them from you or trade them.

once your character is a year old, you get a birthday present. when u open it u get a mini pet. go outside of town and double click on ur miniature jade armor. it is unacesible in towns. it will not fight, it will not take damage it is just for show.

Yeah, once your character hit age of 1 (or 12 months). You get a birthday present. 
I have gotten temple guardian and few others. Need one more months for my ele to turn 1 year old too.

I got a Temple Guardian and two dinky Hydras. Sold the Hydras and bought a Burning Titan and a Jade Armor. Keep in mind the minis come in an annual series. Once April 27 (or whenever Prophecies went live...) rolls around, the pets from the first run of minipets wont spawn anymore and we'll have an all new set of pets.

You were just gifted something worth 20k-30k for not deleting your character for 12 months. I would have four minipets now if I didn't reroll characters just for the sake of changing names. Oh, well. I have a Charr Shaman and a Temple Guardian. My mesmer will be getting hers next month and my monk will get his a month after that.

Says it all, each minipet is limited to a one year run. Maybe if you hang onto some of the crappy ones, people might actually want them a ways down the line when they don't spawn anymore.

huh, I took that to mean that at one year of age, these are the pets you get, at two years of age, there would be something else. But that all characters when they turn one year old would get one of these current pets.
Since it doesn't day, "if your character's first birthday is this year you get one of these", just in general when they are one year old.
But either way, I've got the mini pets that I want out of this group.

i think it means each characters 2nd birthday (and third) will be guaranteed not to include an old minipet that might even be a duplicate since they are random.
first birthday any one of those listed now
2nd birthday any one of the second birthday series (Gaile said 2nd will be even better)
3rd birthday any one of the 3rd birthday series.
someone getting a first birthday present a year from now would get a present from the first year birthday list since Gaile said the second year ones would be better than the first year presents.

I paid 45k for my mini jade, but that's when pets were still new

hm, people want the titans.....my hubby has 2 so far (he wanted a turtle) and I got a devourer---which I am quite happy with.....I have 2 more characters with birthdays coming up this week.... only hope they come up with more storage space for them all!

Ive had my character for like a long long time i got gw at new year then waited less than 4 months before i made my monk and my monk is still there birthday presentless

Oh maybe they do change it like you said. So once its the day proph came out, then you can't get the minipets as a birthday present, but u can still buy them or get them from quests or something. Or maybe sell it in the GW store? Like the pvp unlocks? I doubt it will be like that though.
