Game of the Year Edition bonus items?

Anyone know how to activate these? It says to type /bonusitems, but I did that, and didn't notice anything. I'm low level, and it says the bonus items have some skill requirements, so do I just have to wait till I have the required level to activate them?

Did it pop up in your inventory or not? You can equip them if you don't meet the req but you wont do max dmg..... assuming it even showed up.

No. Nothing happened with I typed that. I also read you can type /presale or /preorder, but that didn't cause anything to pop up either.

Well Wiki says you can't get the items on existing characters (american version) though I doubt that's true. The plaync knowledge base says /bonusitems should do it. If you're sure you added the serial key and everything right, you should probably contact support.

Yes. Well, I bought "Guild Wars" from the amazon.com site, and when I received it, it was a Game of the Year edition. It says so on the packaging, and has all the other materials that were supposed to be included in the Game of the Year edition.

GOTY comes with 2 key codes, one code which is the game account and one for the bonus items, you have to add the items key to your account, its not done automatically.
Then, /bonusitems should work.

Hmm, I only saw the one key (in a little black page with perforated edges). It says Guild Wars Game of the Year Edition Access Key Card. When I created my account, that was the key that I used.
Do you know where the second key code would be, and where exactly you would add it to your account? I only saw one time to add in a key code.

Only the European version has them seperate as two different keys, the American version has them linked in the one serial key.

When i got mine the second key was on a white piece of paper, which said "bonus item access key" or something like that.
You add it by goin to the main menu and clicking "I have a new key" then you can choose to add it to an existing account.

Well, I'm in America, so I assume that's the version I got. I definitely didn't get a 2nd piece of paper that said bonus item access key.
Are there anything like in-game GMs that I could petition and have them look into the situation? I went to the official site and submitted a ticket, but I'm not sure if they can help me specifically, or if they can just answer general questions.

I bought the GOTY (American) edition and I got my items by typing /bounsitems. Just remember you HAVE to be in a town and NOT in an explorable area. And I only got 1 key.

Do you only get the items if you preordered the GoTY version? I read something about that somewhere. But it says on the package that it has the weapons, so hmm. I'm not sure.

I didnt pre-order mine and it works all the time, i make PvP chars everyday and they can get them, dunno bout US though, I imagine its the same.

Also, was the box opened in anyway when you got it? If it was opened, then maybe you did get the 2 key version and someone stole your bonus items key...

Nope, it wasn't opened. I bought two copies, one for me and one for my friend, both GoTY versions, and none of them commands worked for us. I did go to the support page, and they basically gave me a generic, cookie-cutter response saying that "we will look into this, and if it is a bug, our developmental team will work on a patch to fix it, however that could take weeks or months."
I'm guessing I just got screwed, unless their are GM-type people in this game that could look into an individual case like this.

A patch? Seems like an individual problem and not a widespread problem. I would suggest calling their support number and speaking to someone. Assuming they have a support number.

I just bought the GOTY Edition myself today just for the 7 items with unique skins. It wouldn't let me add it to my account claiming I arleady had access to everything the key would provide. Given this fact and your prediciment, it seems that some of the newer GOTY packs fresh off the production line are being read as Standard Editions and not Game of the Year Editions. I'm currently hammering it out with support. Not much progress yet, but I've gotten three responses so far and everything seems to be going smoothly. This does seem as though it might be a widespread issue.

Ok, can you keep me updated if you find anything out? I'm not sure what else to do besides the email to support, and as I said, I got a pretty generic non-response that wasn't really any help at all. If you're talking with someone, let them know that me and my friend are having this same problem as well, so it's not just you. If they tell you how we can fix it, please let me know

Alrighty, it seems I was right when I guessed that the serial keys for the GOTY package were registering as Standard Edition keys. I have to ship them the box and receipt and they should have it resolved soon. I assume they just want to see the box and receipt to make sure I'm not trying to scam them. But as you actually made a new account with your key, I'm not sure if they would be able to help you in the same way. Anyway, here's the latest email I got:

So basically, you have to pay extra (the shipping fees) to get items you were promised on purchase. I was going to buy a copy for my brother, but maybe it would be best to wait a bit.

Thanks for the response, but ugh. That's kind of a pain to do all of that. You would think that they could do a little checking to see that it is a mistake on their part, and they would just add the crap to your account, and not make you have to go thru all of that. I'd like the special weapons, but I'm not sure I want to go through all of that trouble to do that.

Well I think they just want to see the box and receipt and the serial key envelope with GOTY written on it to be sure I'm not trying to scam them. Otherwise any dork could go out and buy the Standard Edition and claim it was the Collector's Edition.

From what I can tell, most places (at least many of the online retailers) are selling GoTY editions in place of the "original" game now anyway. IE, if you buy "Guild Wars" from Amazon, you will get the GoTY edition. You would think that you could just send in your receipt, and if it was bought relatively recently, they could just assume that it was a GoTY edition.
Oh well, unfortunately I don't think I will be able to go to all of that trouble. But if you do speak with them again, just let them know that some other people had this issue, so hopefully they will understand that it's not just a one-time chance occurrence, so maybe they will find a way to make a fix more readily available.

Well I finally got it all worked out. It took 13 days but a lot of that was probablly my game box being shipped and there was a weekend or two in there as well. I still have the same key and everything but they somehow fixed it so it reads as GOTY.
I mentioned other people were having the same problem but they didn't even comment on that. If you could ship them your game box and a copy of the receipt; I'm sure they could fix it for you.
