Guru Censoring? - an unfortunate situation

I made a post in the "General Game Discussion". It was about an accomplishment I was proud of, and my thoughts on reaching that accomplishment. I've posted on other sites, and not had a problem. I've gotten "gratz"'s and light discussion from posting similar topics on other sites in the past in their "General Discussion" areas. It's a forum, a community, a place to discuss things and form a community. This is an excellent type of thread for adding flavor to the community... a thread that will likely be very short and off page 1 within a couple days.

I didn't see a better place to put such a topic, but most forums have them available.

What disturbs me even more is the fact that after I saw the topic closed, I made an even more important topic questioning why something like that would be closed. I had mentioned that members of my guild [Cries of Frustration] had seen topics close/disappear because of a moderators personal disagreement. The fact that this censorship exists reflects very poorly on Guru. It reflects a little poorly on GW as well. Not because this is their forum, but for all intents and purposes, it might as well be. This is the forum GW posts on and reads far more than the other forums. Moderators should be unbiased in their views like news reporters should be unbiased in their views. Granted my specific example was not one of these cases, but I believe it is a problem with the Guru community.

Neither of the threads in this example contained profane language, personal attacks, or were just blatant excuses for arguing.

IMPORTANT:
I am NOT bashing Guru. I am trying to give constructive criticism and offer a warning. If anything, this post can help Guru have a good forum, which the most popular forum (for GW) should strive to be.

MooseyFate,

I've responded in PM to you but I'll go ahead and post this here as well. Your thread was closed because the boasting of an accomplishment on an active forum with thousands of posts a day such as this leads to either a hoard of people wanting to boast of their own accomplishment or the ever-so-clever one-liners we like to try to avoid that do not contribute such as "give yourself a cookie." It's a thread that leads to spam and flames at the same time. I myself wish this wasn't the case but I've been doing this for long enough to see that it's the final outcome.

We also do not allow the discussion of moderating actions. I've explained this to you because, just as on any forum, there are those who are loyal supporters and those who have been burned and will agree with you. These threads quickly become a free-for-all and then we are once again accused of censoring when we have to close the flaming. If you truly have a legitimate complaint, and I'm sure you've seen, I am happy to respond. To work with you, and to address your concerns to make this forum a better place. Anytime we have to delete or close a thread we hear cries of censorship. I realize that everyone believes their thread is contributing to the discussion, that it should be visible and that no one should edit/close/delete their work but this is a private forum, just as the rest of the fansites are and we all have opinions on what should stay and what should go. We do this to the best of our ability and I am always happy to answer any questions or comments.

I'm going to be a fairly grounded in the rules in my response so it doesn't seem biased.

1: Your second thread was supposed to be a PM, to me, not a thread. Read the rules, it's there.

2: The initial thread was inappropriate for the forum it was placed in. No considerable discussion about the state of the game or the game mechanics could arise from it. It also falls exclusively under blogging, which is also directly prohibited in the rules.

It's understandable that you would be irritated to have the thread deleted/closed, and unaware of the reason why. But there's no excuse for failure to read the rules, which you've shown in this topic and your other complaint topic.

It's not as "disturbing" if you actually read the thing you agree to when you sign up for the forums.

Mod complaints are simply not tolerated unless they're PMed to Inde or me. That's how it is, and we're not going to change it. If you've got a personal problem against us, you need to get over it and start talking to us, not running around the forums blowing the horn on a mod you think is corrupt.

But now that it's being blown out of proportion, consider this: if you had PMed us, this situation would not have existed in the first place.

And sorry if this seems abrasive, but after the second topic (which I deleted) calling out one of my moderators, I'm offended that you'd bring this up once again without consulting the rules first.
