Looking at PC overhaul.. need advice!

Heya all ^_^

I just got a new Graphics card (which is amazing by the way, sweet little 7800GS Overclocked ) which is AGP interface... and now i want to upgrade my CPU and ram, so i can have this pc last at least another 2yrs..

Well, the problem is, there arent many motherboards that support AGP now-a-days, and i REALLY want a mobo that supports AGP AND PCI-Expressx16 (for future GPU upgrades)

I found this one on a reliable computer website: Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-002-AK)

I believe this has both graphics ports on it, but, the problem is, i have read elsewhere that some dual interface motherboards dont support new graphics card in the AGP slot (Such as my 7800GS)

I just wanted to know wether anyone here knows if it will support my card, and wether its worth the £50.

I have sold and installed many of these boards, and have never had a problem with one yet. It is made by Asus (ASRock and Asus are the same company), and is a very stable board.

Yes, it does have both PCIe and AGP. The only caution is that the AGP will not accept older generation cards. The one you use should pose no problems at all.

And there is an upgrade card available, that will aloow this board to be upgraded to use the new AM2 processor, and DDR2. The upgrade CPU card runs around $50 (USD). If you ever plan on upgrading the board to AM2 and DDR2, I suggest you get the upgrade card now, since who knows what the availability of it may be in another 6 months.

Where does this upgrade card go into, is it just a PCI card that enables a bios change or something?

This is definately the board for me, as i will probably upgrade my card in the future to a PCIe X1950XTX when i can afford it

This board has an extra slot near the CPU, that looks a lot like a PCIe slot, except it is yellow.

There is an AM2 upgrade card available. The card has it's own CPU and RAM slots, and lets you upgrade to AM2. You remove the 939 CPU and DDR RAM, and insert the card with an AM2 CPU and DDR2 RAM. Instant upgrade, no reload needed.
