the problem is: there are rarely server issues... and so when there is a large one like this, everyone notices and is (obviously) annoyed. *sniff* come back!

Finally my boyfriend gets home from work, and we start a mission... then the servers meltdown. Just great.

From what I could see, a few guildies disconnected while others were unaffected, some disconnected again but could log in to complain, then I disconnected, was able to log in to the login screen a few times, but bailed when I tried to pick a character. Then I couldn't get in at all.
Possibly one server went down, which led to a cascade to the other servers when people tried to log back in again.

Yup, can't get it to work either. Err58 when I want to connect, and err7'd a few times in-game. Had terrible chat-lag all week. My guildies also had problems with err7 and chat lag tonight...

It's hard to say definitively what's causing the problem, other than a server crash. Likely ANet will have it up as soon as possible, but you gotta give them some credit - for a game that's up nearly all of the time, they don't have a bad track record. It's up way more than other MMO's *coughWoWcough*.
