But only if they either A.) don't allow you to page someone who is on your ignore list or B.) allow you to respond to someone who puts you on ignore and pages you.

I could use at least 10 more slots. I run a fairly big guild and I keep major offenders that I've kicked out of the guild on there. I want to make sure they stay ignored so they don't ask to come back in like a lot of them do. I also have a really easy IGN so people remember it and recognize it and "reharrass me".

Server space is the *only* reasonable defense for not increasing the size of the ignore list.
What other reason is there for ever having to remove anyone from you ignore list? Players should be able to put anyone on their ignore list, for any reason, and for any length of time. Whether you're a jerk or a saint is irrelevant.
The fix I prefer is the ability to block everyone that isn't on your friends list.

Anyway, I'm gonna point out now that spammers are typically very persistent, and are also immature and can hold grudges for a long time. It IS NOT inconceivable (or even close) that they could just get 10 spammer buddies so one of them would be able to get through (YES, this happens). If they really don't like you, they might put you on their friends list and occasionally test to see if you are once again vulnerable to them (AGAIN, this DOES happen).
I believe that ANet needs to increase the size of the ignore list. Oh, and while we're on the topic, they ought to vastly increase the size of the friends list, mine is constantly overflowing, with active people and/or very close (for having never met each other in person, at least) friends who I am loathe to remove.

I argue that my idea does promote social interaction - *healthy* social interaction.
Consider this: as it is right now, you don't have to do any work to talk to people. Just pick a random name in town and spam away. If, on the other hand, you had to earn a place on their friend's list before you could message them, it would encourage you to actually play with people and be civil. And again, I'm saying that Anet should give us the *option*. If you're fine with allowing anyone to message you, that's great. But for those of us that have lost all faith in the GW community and would rather not deal with all of the mindless bull****, it'd be nice to have a catch-all solution.
Think about it another way: you don't hand out your phone number to random people, and we all get angry when we get unsolicited phone calls from strangers. Companies have implemented features like Caller ID specifically to screen calls. Why, then, should in-game messaging be any different?

Secondly, if people could not talk to you, how would anyone get on your friends list in the first place? Most likely, they wouldn't. The only people who could get onto it are people you know from somewhere else. Even if, as I certainly hope you were intending, you could talk freely in team chat, how would you get a team together in the first place? Even if you have many friends already, and used that option, ANet will not do anything that forms a barrier against making new friends, especially not something which could allow a person starting in the game to ignore everyone at all times.
If you have indeed 'lost all faith in the GW community', which is not entirely believable, since you're here, then there is really only one solution. Stop playing.
I know it's harsh, but if you don't want to deal with idiots in an online game, the only solution is not to play said online game. Go play a single-player game if you don't want to deal with idiots. Wherever thare are people, there will be idiots.
Think about that. I leave you with a quote, for now...
"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." -Douglas Adams
As I said, it would be an *option*, for those (like me) that wanted to exercise it.
You'd get a team in the first place by turning the option off, obviously. Or, you could have the option apply only to PMs, because there's an easier way to block people spamming local: toggle the channel off.
That reminds me of another point. See, the funny thing about having such a limited ignore list is that I'm forced to play with all channels except 'Team' turned off. I can't turn local chat on because of all the people I would want to block but can't, because my ignore list was full from day 1. In theory it might have seemed counter-intuitive that a *smaller* ignore list would actually lead to *less* interaction, but that is what's actually happening.
I play GW with my friends and guildmates, so there's no reason for me to quit. Certainly as you say, where there are people, there are idiots, but a well-designed game will allow you to control your interaction with said idiots without severly impacting your ability to play the game. GW is almost there, actually. The availability of henchmen means that you never have to actually *play* with idiots in PvE if you don't want to, and in PvP you can punish idiots by killing them (which is true in any competitive game, certainly). The only thing that's missing, then, is a way to prevent idiots from talking to us.

umm, why would u need this, when all you haf to do is not get in huge arguments w/ every1. Unless ur in a highly ranked guild and dont want hundreds of ppl msging u, i dont see the need for this. After a week of sum1 bein on ur ignore list. They prolly never msg u agin, assuming they're on your ignore list forever.

*shifty eyes* lol, ive done enough pvp to know that people are just angry and dumb, ignoring them only goes so far...and its not only just immature people...its for scammers too (Necros/Monks that cheat UW pts, Faulty Forge Runners, Etc Etc) ignoring only goes so far, it doesnt prevent scammers from scamming you again (people tend to forget, and if they dont, they can easily get on a different character and such) its arguable, but i think increasing the ignore list is a must.

I've played over a year, and I don't think I've ever had anyone say anything bad to me unless I provoked it. And even then, my ignore list is empty because no one is that persistant.
Personally I think the OP needs to learn to be a decent human being and not a jerk. Even if there are 2 or 3 persistant people then you still have room for them, not really that big of a deal. If you really want you can go Offline or Do Not Disturb and still talk in guild chat... if you have a guild.
