Nightfall through online store CDKey only?
mykol
i've browsed the forums and tapped all of my resources, but i can't find anything solid on this. I'm hoping that anet will do something like sell Nightfall through the online store for lets say 5-10 less then the retailers sell it, and instead of sending me a box with all the stuff inside, they simply e-mail me a CDKey. I love guildwars and playing it, but once i get online, i could careless what's in the box, i'd rather spend that extra $10 on a character slot. If anyone can link me to a thread about this, cool, if not, lets get some talk of this going and see what Gaile can do for us.

depends what sort of retailers you are talking about.
shop retailers or internet shop retailers?
the two have a price difference of about $10

all the stores i've looked at, are local stores who have their products online. Either way, when you purchase the game through any retailer, they send you a package with all the contents. making those contents, and shipping it, and having to go through a retailer cost anet money. i'm pruposing they sell an item (cdkey) that they can generate at will at no cost to them, and e-mail it to us through the GW Online store, thus giving them nothing but profit off of the purchase.

Gaile has already mentioned that the online store will be selling the game for the same price most retailers are despite they are only linking your account to the game. She said some of the pple in a.net feel this is doing the buyer a favor since most pple don't even want the packaging material and saves the consumer on transportation cost from going out to get the game or saving the cost of shipping.
But I think it's just a marketing thing. They don't want to sell lower than the retailers from the online store or they going to get an ear full from the retailers. If a.net undercuts the stores who sell their games, the stores prob. will just drop the game from the shelves. But if a retailer decides to discount the game to better compete against other retailers that's cool as long as a.net or ncsoft doesn't show favor towards one store over another. Competition between each retailer is fair game.

how about releasing a box with just the CDKey for less then? I think its lame that Anet will boost the price for collectors and presale because you get more items then the traditional box, but they wont sell just the CDKey for less then normal box. By releasing a new game every 6months, and charging what they charge, we're basicly paying the same price per year as a pay per month game. I think that we should get a small break from that and not be stuck with the garbage that comes along with this game and is included in the price tag.

I still don't understand why everyone wants Anet to release a version of GW custom tailored to what they want and for what they want to pay for it. You can buy it in a store, you can order it online, you can buy it and have the serial key added directly to your account. Frankly, Anet sells GW in the same fashion all mmo's are bundled. Saying you want ten bucks off cause you don't need the packaging is just frivilous whining.

I rather they just sold the game through the online store, so that shipping delays and sold out and other crap don't get in the way of getting the game on the release date. That would be nice in my opinion. They could email the manual in pdf or whatever, like they did with the game guide.

under cutting your retailers is a very bad idea. It could even lead to those retailers deciding to not carry your product.
Just look around at various store soon after launch, one is bound to have a special on it some weekend.
