Scribe #14 - Disappointing!
Dougal Kronik
I was really dissappointed with the Scribe #14 from the Guild Wars website.
This was introduced to show appreciation for the PvE aspect of Guild Wars, and to focus on the roleplay environment.
Everything was good until I read the Random Acts of Kindness! Expecting the usual accolades for characters within Cantha and Tyria - I read about the Guilds the Scribe fought against in Heroes Ascent, and other arenas from the Battle Isles!
Definitely PvP content! Even if those Guilds mentioned were played with PvE characters, I feel better mention of PvP from Jade Quarry or Fort Aspenwood - areas where the characters have to PvE - would have made the Scribe feel more like the previous issues.
I understand The Scribe travels the continents of Tyria and Cantha, and occassionally must stop over in the Battle Isles, but keep the focus - especially the Random Acts of Kindness - to the PvE characters and Guilds!

I'm not sure where you got the idea that the Scribe would focus solely and only on PvE players.

Yeah I don't get this thread either, I thought it was pretty normal for him to talk about that sort of thing in the random acts of kindness, he's a GuildWars traveller, not a PvE traveller.
gr3g
Perhaps the Scribe just realized that nothing interesting ever happens in PvE? Yeah, this thread is pointless. Whether it's as pointless as the Scribe is up for debate.

Just going from what has been said before:
From Gaile Gray
The Scribe...Living in a cave?
I was just expecting some tales from the PvE side of the game. It is after all my weekly fix!

Thank you for pointing out that I may not have been clear in my statement. The proper insert is "website content" and the reference was to the fact that this news is told with in-game voice and is more tailored to roleplaying, which is most likely to be part of PvE play. You see, we have a full section on Competitive Play, and since that was started a few months ago, I've seen many, many threads asking for website content related to Roleplaying and PvE play. |

The Scribe is intended to tell tales from the game world. And as such, he will tell those that are about PvP as well as those centered on PvE. We like, and even strive for, all sorts of content, so that what may appeal more to one this week will appeal to another more closely the next issue.
I find your comments and your subject line very... disappointing.

Lol.
Seriously though,The scribe is used to describe all the happenings of GuildWars. Not just PvE or PvP only.I can't understand how anyone could simply only play PvE or PvP.
Guardian of the Light
So you think the scribe should only be for PvE world and pretend the PvP world doesn't exist.
Hmmmm that wouldn't make sense.

oh no please don't raise the subject about whether this thread is more popular than the scribe... people might agree with you.
A good idea that the scribe should keep in mind is to only write about things that almost noone had experienced. When the Scribe writes a whole article about how cool that last bonus weekend was, and then go on to describe what the weekend was all about, it just makes you want to say "Yeah we know, that was like sooooo yesterday", because it really is news that we have heard before.
Scribe dude should stick to his guns and talk about stuff that people don't really hear of that often, not about "the latest gossip". That's what forums and announcements are for. Random acts of Kindness and having first hand experiences (Like the lost weapons shipment, and being invited into Elona for instance) that havent been officially confirmed by Anet are some of the things that make the Scribe worth listening to.

I, too, browse the scribe every now and then. I had thought as well that the scribe was in response to PvE players' complaints about State of the Game being PvP-focused, something geared towards PvE to balance it out.
However, even with a bit of PvP here and there (and the alliance battles in a previous one), it still seems mostly PvE so I don't think you should make a judgement call on one issue. After all, Dragon's Gullet isn't PvP :-) I think they're doing good with the scribe so far. I'm not too sure PvP'ers even read it though unless there's something complaining about it.. From this thread they obviously don't know about the State of the Game column...
It's all good.

It's the Scribe, not the weekly report on PvE. PvP is part of the game.
Hmm, I just said what Gaile said .

I don't think the Scribe is only PvE or PvP, like I stated in the OP that he must get to the Battle Isles once in a while. But I do like to hear about individuals in Cantha or Tyria that are recognized for their Kindness to "new soldiers" to the battle front or the assist/donation of weapons and equipment.
I was just hoping that would have been an ongoing thing with the Scribe.

I a pve goer that only does pvp when i get bored with pve do not understand your issue. The Scribe usually does talk about PvE but the scribe wasnt meant for onlty pve it was meant for all aspects of Guild Wars and when they talk about kindness in PvP you compalin about it. I am starting to sympathise for those that prefer PvP because hardcore PvErs always complain if anything is about pvp. Quit your complaining, they talk about pvp once and your panties get up in a wedgie. You have no arguement.
Vilaptca
Do not turn this thread into a PvP vs. PvE debate.
Dougal Kronik
I admit I don't do a lot of PvP. But I do get to read about the competitive side from the website and watch the matches in observer mode. And every time I've been involved in any sort of PvP match, HA, Alliance Battles, Fort/Jade, I've always found my allies and opponents give the old "gg".
But while I do get some information about other players in PvP, I can only read about other players experiences in PvE on forums or in the Scribe.
I guess my expectations were to be able to read about the Scribe's adventures each week within the continents of Cantha and Tyria. I just kind of missed it this week. I was feeling disappointed, so I made this thread to voice my interpetations, even if misguided, on the Scribe's writings.
I think there is nothing wrong with the Scribe, I really enjoy reading it each week, and when my favorite content (up to now has been RAoK), was missing the continental adventures, I was disappointed.

The only thing I didn't like about the scribe this week was that I felt the 'Random acts of kindness' didn't quite fit what he was describing. But what goes under that title is up to the Scribe, and I guess he felt it fit.
Also recall that he was describing these matches in the same style as usual, from an 'rpg' or 'citizen of that world' perspective. Though it was a nice read, I must agree with Terra Xin that I look forward to seeing more obscure items of news in the Scribe, and less rehash.

I, too, was quite disapointed with Scribe #14, mostly with the "Hidden Corners of Tyria" part. It was supposed to give some good tips for cartographers, but all we get is basic directions where to find some well-known explorable areas. Gimme a break. I don't need no frickin' Scribe to tell me where to find Iron Horse Mines!
The last paragraph starts with "I will unveil more of my cartographical knowledge in a later missive, and of course I plan to disclose my knowledge of Cantha as well." Uuuuhhhh .... I can't wait for it. What secret insight is he going to reveal this time? Where to find Bukdek Byway???

Repeat after me.
If you frequent any well informed forum. The Scribe is not for you.
Repeat it.

You already know more than the Scribe is willing to tell.

You know whats even more disappointing about the Scribe #14.. Its not even the 14th Scribe issue.. Its the 13th. They skipped 13! It went 1, 2, 3....11, 12, 14. So what happened to 13? Maybe the writer doesnt like the number 13, or cant count, or just plain forgot..

The Scribe has always been an entertaing read. And there have been a few occasions where I've learned something that I didn't read on the forums. Wasn't the sribe the first place we heard about the latest green drops (the 2 before #14)?
Also it encourages more experiienced players to be more helpful to newer players by naming a few that were caught doing good deeds.

Wow. The complaint threads about the Scribe have taught us something about PvE players. They like to complain! Also, we have learned something about PvP players. They like to complain! See, they really DO have something they like to do together! You could do something useful, like try to get Anet to fix Draw Spirit, or the Ranger Energy spirit stacking...
The. Scribe. Isn't. For. Experts. Also, last time I checked, Guild Wars was both PvE AND PvP. But hey, I could be wrong.

Also, you can do JQ and FA with pvp characters, so the OP is WRONG!

Not every good deed must be commmited by giving items to newbies...

Being about 1/2 pvp, 1/2 pve. I actually appreciated this issue of the Scribe. For those of you who don't focus much on pvp, let me tell you there is a lot of smack talk which ranges from polite competitive jabs to downright nasty usportsmanlike conduct which would border being banned.
What I took away from the Scribe's comments about the pvp comments he and his team received was that there are actually some competitive, but nice players out there and their efforts to help newer players transition from pve to pvp should be highlighted.
In case you didn't know, there were more districts of Hero's Ascent than there has EVER been in the game. At minimum for the entire weekend, there was 5 American and 5 International districts running at once. The activities going on in HA were absolutely news worthy and "random acts of kindness" which involve pvp players, I feel deserved to be in this issue of the scribe. That type of kindness is rare in the extremely competitive realm of HA and it should be highlighted.
Imho, good job scribe on pointing those kind acts out. Hopefully it will continue in HA.
