[Video/Tutorial] FoW 3 man farming build.

Hello, this is my first contribution to this forum.

Myself and a bunch of friends came up with a very efficient way to farm FoW. It is definitely much faster than an 8 man pug.

Areas cleared:
Starting area around tower
Battlefield
Forest
Temple of War
Spider Cave
Parts of Fire Forest
Second Shadow Army
Obsidian Drakes

Parts not cleared:
Beach (blocked by 3 doubter's dryders, too much enchant shatter, that's where the 15 DP was from at the end :P)
Parts of Fire Forest (ancient scales are not really worth the time).

The movie contains the teambuild and also shows everything up to unlocking FoW armor.

The quality is decent, however blurry in some foggy areas. This is due to the fact that the total length is 35 minutes, and as i did not want it to be much over 200mb in size, quality suffered in some parts. If there is any interest in a larger, higher quality movie, i will make one available.

The bitrate is 800kbit/s, resolution is 576x432, file size ~205mb, format WMV9, movie is streamable.

Link here:
http://panikk.org:8080/FoWfinal.wmv
Mirror, since some people said the above was slow:
http://mirror.pingtimeout.net/FoWfinal.wmv (Thanks Daedalus)

Any constructive criticism, critique appreciated... hell, if this gets any attention at all, i'll be happy

I liked your build better then my own 3 man (and 2 man) build, to be honest. How did you handle NR/Primal?

Build makes sense, not exactly prodigal :P but works nicely. Video is dling real slow I'll check it out when it's eventually dled.

I'll try to mirror the video somewhere asap... the server i have hosted in became really slow for some reason =/
Seems to be a routing problem, I only get 40kb/s on my home connection, yet i get 1mb/s @ my university.

Update:
Added high-speed mirror link to OP.

do you always let the groups in the battlefield fight each other cause your losing alot of drops that way

First of all, yes there is a way to download it - Just rightclick the link and select "Save Target As".

And no, i will not put it on youtube, because the quality of youtube is less than adequate for this video.

As for the battlefield, well, you don't have to let them fight eachother, but those 4 mesmers + 2 monks (or was it 5 mesmers) are pretty annoying, if you want to fight them the normal way, you'd have to modify the build for perma spellbreaker, or at least dual spellbreaker, which would imo slow other stuff down.

Also, if you think i am "Losing a lot of drops" by letting two groups kill eachother in FoW, then you must be quite greedy
Those two groups are perhaps 0,01% of FoW. Considering it's possible to clear 95% of fow with ease with this build, I don't see how I am losing "a lot of drops" by not killing two groups.

EDIT:
I checked both mirrors, both are available. The second one is on a standard :80 port, while the first one is on a non-standard :8080 port. If you can browse the web, you should be also easily able to download the movie (or stream it for that matter).

Very nice build. Makes killing faster than the usual 2 man build.

Just a note on the mesmer/monk groups (2 groups, one has 2 monks 2 mesmers and the other, right behind it, has 3 mesmers):

What you should do is take out the Skeleton patrol before it takes out the Warrior/Abyssal stationary group, or let them take those guys out (9 out of 10 times, the skeletons win) and then finish off the winner.

This way, when the Shadow Beasts pop-up and head for that spot, they won't engage the skeletons. Then you need to quickly take the shadow beasts to the monk-mesmer group (entering with Spell Breaker). This way you'll have the melee hitters you need to quickly take out the monks.

We tried it today and it worked even though I entered without spell breaker. They kep shattering spirit bond and I kep putting it it back.

However, if you don't time it right, the monk-mesmer group will come down the hill and scatter among the shadow beasts. This will make lining up the monks for SV/AV harder, but will have the added benefit of reducing the number of mesmers you have to deal with to 2 instead of 5.

Alternatively, you could (before the Abyssal/Warrior group is taken out) send one of your party up the ramp and have them try to aggro one of the three mesmers in the back. If the spacing is right, you will be able to get them to come down the ramp a bit (away from the range of the monks, otherwise they will come to heal them). Once they are far away, the SS can take them out with minimal healing and no tanking required even (assuming people don't attack through Empathy).

Once again, well done. At first I thought taking Divine Boon was a preposterous idea, but it turned out to be a brilliant one. GG guys.

--
Oh, a final note: It's better if the monk goes Mo/W and bring Balanced Stance and let the Necro worry about his SV/AV. If nothing else, the necro can always drop Awaken or something. Balanced Stance would allow the monk to take on as many Abyssals as he wants/needs. This is crucial in the Tower of Strength area. Unlike a 55 monk, a spiritbonder will die pretty quick if he can't get off Spirit Bond (no passive regen from Mending/Watchful Spirit).

Getting balanced stance on the monk, would indeed help loads with abyssals. Might be a good idea

And we usually don't let the skeleton group kill the abyssals, it just came out that way when it got frapsed.... and we weren't bothered on going back just to refraps that one scene.

EDIT:
Indeed, Balanced stance is much better, so swap Awaken for AV on the necro, and let monk take balanced stance.

We run a similiar build as a 3 and 4 man,(it's posted) this looks fun. I'm looking forward to trying divine boon in the slot that blessed aura currently occupies. Maintaining health is seldom a problem though so I'm not sure that the loss of Blessed Aura's 33% lengthening of enchantments (coupled with the additional 20% from the icy fs) will make sense.

Our tank uses and icy flamespitter and all have an icy weapon for use as the Nec uses shivers to help finish off pesky monk groups and the like. You might try that for variety.

Couple of questions I have -

Why do the abyssals create problems for anyone ? We never have any issues with them, i'd much rather take on 20 abyssals than 20 shadows, we have more issues with them.

Why doesn't the tank cast Vital on himself ? I'm guessing there is some logical reason that I am unaware of, but this is the method wehave been using without any know adverse effects or impact.

Thanks man, nice build.

Abyssals have chain KD, i would love to see you take on more than 6 abyssals at a time without balanced stance reliably. The reason for bringing divine boon is that you can easily tank through 10+ shadows.

A spiritbond monk must have as high HP as possible, thus he is not using superior runes. Minor ones. He has 13 prot, whereas the smiter/bonder has 16 prot => More HP means more damage from holy wrath.

I hope this was of some help.

Interesting that your posted build didn't use balanced stance. How in the world did you pull it off before ? Do you need to change your build ? Abyssal don't come in packs the size of shadows and they are a non isssue in my mind.

Nutty stuff man.

I've heard stories of people who do crazy things like carry multiple armor sets that they swap out when casting bonds, and sometimes with the right offhand the bond can take the attribute value to 17. They say they get results like these - Vital Blessing at +223, retribution at 22 and Holy Wrath at 56.

With the tank carrying Vital the only prot bond is life attunement. 52% at 16 vs 48% at 14 ? I think I can live with 48 or even 45 thank you. I'm betting I can find a spot for those points elsewhere.

Mr Crapsicle, you're getting overly aggressive imo.

You asked, why the smiter would bring vital blessing, the reason is, he should have 4 enchants. Blessed Aura is a wasted skill slot, that could be put to more use.

3-4 abyssals are no problem if you cast prot spirit and spirit bond while knocked down, so it casts as soon as you get up.

And once again, stop being aggressive, this thread already got heavily cleaned because of someone being a bitch, there is no need for your current tone. Also your build that is posted, is not of any help to me, since this build uses 3 people, and I doubt it's much slower.

As I stated before, constructive criticism is welcome, mindless trolling however is not.

Oh and about LA, and VB. If the bonder does not carry either, the tank must then according to your description carry:

LA, VB, Blessed Aura, Divine Boon, Essence Bond and Balthazar's Spirit, i sense a slight miscalculation.

Since the bonder is always at 0 energy anyway, i don't see what you would put on the bonder in the now 2 free slots, not to mention that holy wrath+retribution massively suffer from -200hp on the PS monk (~30% damage reduction).

Perhaps, I am misunderstanding you, but I just fail to see what you are on about. Also we do swap head designs around If you have a suggestion, please do tell me, what you want to bring on the smiter, and where would you use those points "elsewhere".

Overall, the second half of your post looks like trolling, and attacking me for no apparent reason, at least this is my perception.

What do the Abyssals knock you down with?

Also, why is too many Abyssals a problem, since you can just cast PS and Spirit Bond with you get up? (My theory answer for this is they somehow chain their knockdowns to perfect timing, now allowing you to be on your feet for quater of a second)

Thanks

(I can't stream the video for some reason, so I'm gonna have to ask for certain answers, sorry )

GJ on the build though, kudos!

Earth Shaker shouldn't be a problem I guess, since you have SV on.

they have 3 knockdowns.... iirc....
And well, you are barely up for 1/4 second with 4 abyssals... meaning... if you get bad luck, you get really owned with chain KD :P

Also, if you can't stream, rightclick => save target as => download it...

Abyssals can easily interrupt 1/4 sec cast time skills, and NO it isnt always safe to cast from the ground they can still interrupt you if there is more then 1 abyssal. They have inherent knockdown ability so you never know when it's coming.

You need to group them if there is more then one then back up to synchronize their attacks. I cast immediately after I take a hit and DON'T get knocked down. You can easily get 2 1/4 sec spells off usually.

Or you can easily body block abyssals with the surrounding terrain and or themselves, like aatxe and ettins, so that a minimal amount of them are hitting you at a time. Body blocking the abyssals is the best choice in my opinion so only 1-2 are hitting you.

And thanks for the positive feedback, and suggestions for improvement.
