This mission is really pissing me off. I hate it worse then THK and I'm sure someone is going to tell me "Oh but its easy, I did it on the first try" well what ever lol. Obviously I can't which is why I'm asking for help/tips.

Hench are to stupid for this mission from my countless experiences. They don't attack called targets, they drop dead like flies before I can even get the staff. Then when I do get the staff, they suck even more against the Kraken(sp) boss. I can get out there and kill everything but the moment the boss shows up, its all hell. I know you can use the staff to do stuff and what not but I can never get it to work for some reason.

I've also had poor luck with PUG as well. We'll do awsome in the arena and then drop like flies at the final boss. I know a lot of interupt skills will take down the final boss in a flash but it seems its skills recharge faster then our interups. Wish I had my mesmer there because I could have a skill bar just full of them.

But I'm trying to do this with my Ritualist.

Is there any benifit to killing all the smaller krakens and leaving one alive until all the bodies of the others have vanished? Otherwise the boss just brings them all back to life. Only thing I find is that the Hench will not run away with me even when I target myself. Oh well...

What else can I try?

A ranger with distracting shot, a tank with distracting blow, or a mesmer with cry of frustration and leech sig should be all you need to shut down Zu Hanuku. Then just whack away at your leisure.

As for the arena, try frozen soil, as the enemies res'ing is really annoying. That, and target Argo ASAP, or he'll shred your team.

As for the smaller krackens, I've heard that either luring them out of the casting range of zu Hanuku or letting the corpses dissapear will make things easier. I've never really tried this, though, as one decent interruptor should take the res'ing out of the picture.

Bring Dissonance as a Ritualist. Jade Fury doesn't stand a chance.

Wait to drop the Spear of Archemorus (sp?) until you get up to the Kraken. It'll be fully charged and should do some serious damage.

I tried to do this with henchies as a Rt/Ra using distracting shot to interrupt Jade Fury. Even when I interrupted every Jade Fury it was still pretty hard. A number of times I got him down to a sliver of health before I died and the henchmen lost focus.

So I eventually got myself a group and did it was other players, much easier. Just make sure that you're keeping Jade Fury interrupted and you'll be fine. Charge the Spear up on trash mobs and drop it at his feet as the battle starts too.

well I play a Rit/Ranger so I guess I need to equip a bow and go with some interupt skills. My friend brought his mesmer but I don't know how many skills he brought but he got a couple interupts for the Jade Fury and then we just got killed. The boss had less then 1/4 life left to... so sad.

I changed my secondary to ranger and used broadhead arrow on the kraken and it worked really well. For rt/r Dissonance + broadhead ftw. Also the sin hench will interrupt too.

Where can I get Dissonance? I do not believe I have it. I was also told to look for that spirit that interupts attacks of those its attacking. I know I saw were I could buy that (I think) but can't remember where either.

Easiest way to kill the Kraken boss:::

Have a Ranger primary OR secondary bring Winter.
Have a Necro cast Spinal Shivers (or the Factions equivalent) on the boss.

:: Result :: EVERY attk from ANYONE interrupts teh boss. Even his regular attks. The necro using Spinal Shivers needs to have some sort of energy support (OoB, or a support Bip)

You just need a skilled interupter that can interupt the spell caster bosses inthe arena and the Kraken.

When I did this mission in a PuG, I was the only Ranger and interupter in the team. I just loaded a standard spiking/interupter build and stop Jade Fury and his over moves in their tracks.

The boss is only hard if you allow it to get Jade Fury off.

I notice a lot of people suggesting dissonance....as useful as it can be...it dies very very fast. Also you just have to hope it goes for the kraken and not the kraken spawns. Distracting shot worked a treat on my Rt/R. I am currently taking a ranger through the game and intend to try a few other skills in there...namely Disrupting Lunge, Savage Shot and Icy Ground. Icy ground may be interesting as the kraken has resurrect skills to allow it to bring back any smaller kraken spawns you kill....thus Icy Ground should stop him ressing them...then I can alternate between Disrupting Lunge and Savage Shot.

Interrupts are your friend in that mission...

When i did it with my warrior, people didn't bring interrupts... actually, i was the only one with an interrupt (with 2 rangers and 1 mesmer in the team...), and i only had to interrupt the Jade Fury thing, i let him resurrect the other critters because they die very fast anyways, and keep the boss busy for 6 seconds

Should've told 'em on forehand to bring several interrupts, but only one is actually enough (Savage Shot is perhaps the best skill in that mission)

People can be idiots soemtimes. In this particular mission I always ask first the classes that can interrupt to equip interrupt skills, and then they dont understand why I fume when they dont interrupt Jade Fury which I specifically said to interrupt each time.
For a ranger distracting shot works wonders, not only interrupting Jade Fury but also disabling it for 20 seconds.

It's super easy when you know how, I did it with my Warrior + henchies and got masters.

Forget all about your primary profession and change your current secondary to mesmer, then cap the Elite "Power Leech" from Seaguard Hala (one of those you fight at first).

Power Leech: If target foe is casting a Spell, that Spell is interrupted and for 10 seconds whenever that foe casts a Spell, you steal up to 1...6 Energy from that foe.

It's SO easy to interupt since the casting time of "Jade Fury" is like 5 seconds or something.

I didn't actually even fight the kraken, I just let the henchies do all the work while I stood around just waiting for it to start casting so I could interrupt.

EDIT: And yes kill all the smaller krakens first, you will usually end up with one though since the boss will res whenever it can - but it shouldn't be a problem just ignore it.

Obviously it helps if you bring along more mesmer Domiation skills like backfire and such since it speeds up the killing of the boss, also pickup/drop the spear whenever you can.

One more hint that I can give that isn't simply a repeat of what everyone else has said: It may or may not seem obvious, but if you are using henchies, DO NOT call attacks on the Kraken. I have seen so many people screw themselves with henchies because they are used to constantly hitting ctrl+space to call all their targets anytime they attack. The problem with this, is that if you are focused on interrupting the Kraken, which you should be doing, and you are calling the Kraken as your target regularly, then the Kraken spawns are going to build up and wipe your group.

From what I have seen this is the number one reason that people fail, if they are actually interrupting Jade Fury. The Kraken spawn aren't a big deal when there are only 1-2, but anymore and they really start to build up the damage, and you will suddenly find that all your henchmen are dead and you are swearing as they then all gang up on you.

So all you really have to do is keep your eye on the Kraken and make damn sure he doesn't get Jade Fury off. Leave the rest to your henchies. If you don't call a target on anything they will automatically take down the kraken spawns, once the Kraken spawns are down the Kraken will be the only target, thus they will automatically start attacking him again.

As someone said before, bring the assassin. You should actually bring both of them as they both have Beguiling Haze. Bring the archer Zho as well, she has Savage Shot. Also as a rule, henchies have god like reflexes so they are the ultimate interrupters. That being said, if you have all three of these guys and have interrupts yourself, as soon as the initial Kraken spawn are down, the Kraken shouldn't have a chance to do anything as he will constantly be interrupted.

The quickest way that I have found to beat this mission with the least amount of resources (player-wise) is to simply have a second PC with you who is actually semi-intelligent (I know, hard to find in PUGs, so bring a friend ). Bring henchies as well, but leave the ones I mentioned above who can interrupt, as you will not want them interrupting with this strategy.

Here's the set up:

All you do is focus on the Kraken and interrupt him when he casts Jade Furry. Do nothing else except normal attacks and attack speed increases (if you wish). Don't worry about preparations or anything else; just make sure you are free to interrupt when Jade Furry is cast. You won't have to worry about damaging him yourself. Let the Kraken use his other spells (Light of Dwayna and Resurrect), you will want him to cast these.

The second PC will take the spear and will direct the henchies to kill the Kraken spawns. Make sure the 2nd PC is close to the Kraken spawns when they die so that the spear will be charged by their deaths. Have him/her drop the spear on the Kraken each time it is fully charged to level five. You can mouse over the spear icon to see what level the spear is charged to.

A fully charged spear will do massive damage to the Kraken, so you will find that after 3-5 hits following the initial one, he should be dead. There is nearly no risk in this method, as one PC and henchies are more than a match for kraken spawn, and the Kraken has nothing that can really harm you besides Jade Fury, which you should easily be able to take care of even with one interrupt skill if that is all that you are focusing on.

Good luck,
Livingston

I went thru this with several characters, this area is all about having decent interupts. If you can find a person with Practiced Stance and Choking gas, that messes up the mobs pretty good, plus standard Distracting shot and Savage shot = Full Interupt Ranger only real problems seem to occur when recharging choking gas. This mission isn't difficult with a decent group.

Not quite. You forgot a very important detail. Whoever the ANYONE is that is attacking has to be using an elemental weapon for winter to work. Winter changes elemental dmg to cold, not physical.

Create a level 1-8 Spirit, all Elemental damage is Cold damage instead. This Spirit dies after 30-126 seconds.

This was always my favorite mission (and probably because I thought it was one of the easiest) in Factions. Of course, that was until I just got there with my new monk this past week. No matter how I tried to explain it, PuGs just didn't get it. All Zu Hanuku requires is 1 good interrupt. As my mesmer, this was no problem, as I keep 2 or 3 on my skillbar normally (f.y.i, jade fury is a skill, not a spell, so power leech or whatever was suggested by another poster won't work). As my warrior, this was distracting blow, which should never leave a warrior's skillbar, i.m.o. After like 4 failures with PuGs as my monk, I finally took matters into my own hands. While being the only monk in the group, I equipped leech sig., and went to work. Because of the recharge, I could only get 2 of the 3 jade fury's before he was dead, but I was able to heal the other and the small amounts of damage dealt without jade fury by myself. So, what has all this tought me? This mission requires 1 person who has any clue what they're doing, and it should be beatable for masters.

Note: if you did it this weekend, it was harder because henchies blew this weekend because Nightfall preview broke their AI in a big way.
