good suggestions here but i'll say stick with 1.5k armor for now and wait till night fall. New armor skins are on the way and possibly new stats too.
I was going to do that, I had a set of Kurzick Sentinels and figured I'd wait until Nightfall to get an alternate set. Of course I saw some energy-heavy no-strength build that I wanted to try out.
I found the Shing Jea armor from Kaineng is a good cheap set as all it takes is cloth and damask and you can farm the materials for damask easy enough in Pongmei and craft your own damask. A low budget but functional alternative for Gladiators armor.

I find that dragon/platemail/wyvern is the best all 'round.

Sigh...this is why I don't venture into the warrior subfolder very often.
1) for PVP play, hands down your best set is gladiator's armor. Hammer and shock warrior builds are very energy heavy, and the +8 energy gives you almost 50% more energy, which is awesome. If you're going to get fow, and ever plan on being a competitive pvp player, Glad's is what you need to get.
2) For general play, 90 armor sets are really good, because it allows you to play with attributes and get a boost against elemental attacks.
3)sentinel's armor is bad, because anyone running 13 strength makes me sad.
4)For Helms, you need 1 for each attribute sans strength. strength is bad.

I second that.

No, it's not balanced, Platemail/Dragon/Wyvern is rather balanced. You are limiting yourself with 13(!!) in strength while there (depending on the environment) are very important attribute lines like "tactics" (for a sexy heal sig) where you should invest into if you are not attempting to play a crippled warrior build.

nitpick much? I just generally assume people don't suck at this game and wear weaponmastery helms.

weapon mastery helm, always
I got the collector's executioner's helm from crystal desert
is there one in factions? I'd take that one if possible...
My armor is:
exe helm
Berserker Leggings [better bonus hp, except for berserker chest]
Legionare's everything else...
110 AL vs. physical? For just a stance?! Eat that Sentinal's Ripoff, er armor... 90 AL vs. elemental isn't as good as 100 AL, but since 10 AL is I think 1/8th dmg reduction [20 being 1/4th and 40 being 1/2], I think that 1/8th extra damage ain't crap to worry about.
I used to have a W/Mo smite paladin hammer config but I've decided to stop using KDs and focus on a secondary sword build, cause Ripostes own solo PvE...

My halmet is in tactics and my guantlets are in weapon mastery.

You didn't assume that at all. You said Gladiator's for the +8 energy, which means you are wearing the gladiator helm instead of the weapon mastery helm. If you wear gladiator's with a weapon mastery helm, it's +7 energy.
Anyway to answer the original question, for PvP, have a set of +health armor and a set of +energy armor. Which you use depends on whether the other team is spike, degen, how much DP you have, and what your build's energy useage pattern is.

whoops. To be honest, I didn't even know they MADE gladiator's helms.

The Gladiator's Helm is still on the PvP creation screen, much to my dismay. The Dragon, Knight's, Brute's (?!), and Sentinel's are all also still on there. I don't understand why Anet would make 4 variations on the same crappy bonus, especially one that has no inherent bonuses over the others.
It'll be interesting to see next weekend what new armors they're rolling out, as well as any tweaks to existing armors.
