Rant about stupid people selling stuff
Alleji
No, this isn't about people attepting to sell things nobody needs at ridiculous prices. I think I even stopped laughing at them few months ago... not to mention it's easy to ignore all the "PERFECT SHADOWBALDE 100k (buy it now 500k)!!!111" headings when you're browsing auctions.
What really gets me are the people who seem to have no clue what requirements do. When I run a search for "diamond aegis" for example and see a bunch of people posting "req 9" and "req 12" and "req 8 ZOMGZOMGZOMG" in their headings without specifying whether it's STRENGTH or TACTICS, which makes all the difference in the world. But that's half the story.
You can tell a real idiot when you see a "10/10 PERFECT GHOSTLY STAFF REQ 8!!!" auction... doesn't he realize that there are 5 different professions that can use staffs, not to mention different attribute lines those professions have? "Req 8" tells the buyer absolutely nothing, because if it's the wrong attribute, the staff is going to do 3 damage regardless of whether it's req13 or 8. The only explanation I could come up with is that this staff dropped for a brain-damaged wammo who never picked up anything other than a sword in his life and automatically assumed that ghostly staffs only drop with a req of channeling magic. Disturbingly, at least 75% of the auctions for caster items on guru auctions boast similar idiotic titles.
I understand that "req 8" might attract some collectors (while my warrior will happily continue to use her req12 axe) but not specifying the attribute line is just moronic. So if you're one of the wammos, please, quietly take note of this and put useful information in your auctions next time. You might even sell something.

the fact that you equate an ability to trade with the persons character type is ludicrous.
yes, i see your point, but the character type has nothing to do with it.

You have answered your own question.. "I understand that "req 8"might attract some collectors" most people like to have req 8/7 items because they want to have great collctions and thats what they want to do while playing, while others may not.

NEED 100K + XXX ECTOS FAST!!!!11 NO NOOBZ
Seriously though, the number of people that advertise items with greed in the forefront of their mind disgusts me.
When someone says "WTS good gold shield" I instinctively ask to see it because I could fetch a bargain. If I don't like it, I'll politely reject and they'll give the 'dots of disappointent' (...) and call me a time-waster or so on. The 'brain-damaged wammos' don't have the patience or persistence to wait for the right traders either and get ratty or begin shouting abuse.
Another thing that bothers me is when people capitalize 'sundering' and spam the +30 with exclamation marks to emphasize the 'godliness' of their item thinking people will fall for it and pay 100k + a tonne of ecto. If people have that sort of cash they shouldn't be so ignorant to fall for it anyway although your wealth and common sense are definitely not directly proportional.

And if it doesn't fit in the title, you could always shave off a few exclamation marks from the end.
EDIT: Sorry about the "brain-damaged wammo" line. If the generalization bothers you, feel free to replace it with "idiots". I just don't like excessive repetition.

Maybe I missed the point here and if I did then please feel free to tell me so , but it seems to me the op is complaining about auction sales. Now I'm fairly certain that before you can even sell an item you have to choose the category it falls under, which includes the attribute. It will ask is this strength based? Tactics? Fire magic? Swordsmanship? etc. This is all there so that you can refine your search. Yes if you decide to just look in the general staff categories you will be frustrated weeding through the crap just to find what you need but if you apply a little searching and refine it then you should get items you can use each time. I know it works for me. I always refine my searches so I know exactly what I'm getting.

I like the people that try to sell things without displaying what they are all together
Gold Pheonix blade pm offers...
or the morons that spam
"almost best healer staff, pm offers"
first req and attribute are importantant on everything except core weapons... bows, swords, axes, hammers where only the req is necassary
second saying almost best it more negative to selling your item than not saying anything at all... just list the damn req att and mods
but what i dislike most of all... when i WTS list the item all att reqs mods price and my location the morons still need to pm me "can I see" look goof the item is not going to be different from what i say it is just because it is in the trade window you want it buy it if not please dont bother me... hate window shoppers... look at the item before u push the accept button
and i really hate the ppl that come up offer you half the money in the trade window and a bunch of garbage items... sell your crap yourself and bring me the money...
thanks i know im a jerk... but selling items is one of the most pain in the ass things to do in game and i dont enjoy jerking arround when trying to do it...
I REALLY REALLY wish there was an NPC to dump your for sale items on... cahrge a listing fee whatever... drop ur item in set ur price done when the item sells ur money goes to ur bank or sit on the npc till you claim it whatever... people can still spam the trade chat to avoid the fees if they want but yea i just hate the whole process of selling things and buying for that mater because half the people dont know how to sell

Oh oh, or people that bid on multiple similar items (trying to get the cheapest deal) on GuruAuctions then when all auctions close, the buyer decides he/she doesn't want the higher priced ones anymore and when you try to contact the person, the person avoids you at all costs until you jump on a different account to contact them (to hide your identity) then the person avoids you the moment you mention "auction" -- you get fed up and ask the person if they even wanted the item anymore and they just say no and give you some lameass excuse, NOT EVEN A SORRY. Yup that's right, that just happened to me a few days ago. It pissed me off enough to even go ahead and leave bad feedback for the person, ontop of all that irresponsible behaviour by the person, that person has the nerve to give ME bad feedback which sounds retarded (person says in feedback that I took over a week to contact him/her when the auction ended no more than 24 hours before).

You know what I hate? THIS!
While they have no idea what is the best (which does not even exist!). I'm sure everybody that actually own ectos knows what is best...

Yes there is a lot of clueless traders but this is because not everyone plays the game to trade and not all of them give a shit what the current market value is.
Learn to deal with it and move on.

:P and not everyone like sporting green items... aka the people with money go for GOLD stuff not crackerjack prizes... Makes sence doesn't it rich players Farm so what need do they have of buying greens when they can just farm them... and gold can be any variation within the normal bounds of item type
Phaern Majes
Its a marketing ploy, if you take the time to enter my auction (not that I do this, as I really sell items on the forum) then it increases the chance that you'll bid/buy the item. Even if it turns out that its a necro weapon and you are looking for say a monk staff, you may look at it and say "Hey, you know what my necro could use this." Now thats not to say that happens alot, but the fact is the more people that look at your item the more likely you'll sell it. Its not a guarantee but it helps.

Now i'm going to write a rant thread about poor spelling and grammar on this forum. /sarcasm/
You're argument is ridiculous...next you will prosecute the people that sale purples because they clog up space on the auctions..

Wow... hypocrites FLT. It's ok for you to lowball people for your own gain, but when someone asks a little more than average for an item, it's "disgusting"...
I think what's disgusting is your utter hypocrasy.

To makosi defense making a profit is not greed its a way of life, i bought and sold many things and some of those items came from "noob farming" buy for 5k sell for 100k..i however was not a spammer, i had many contacts and sold through them by either selling directly to them or selling to someone that was recommended to me.

alleji i bet you have a wammo as well...then i guses almost 80% of the guild wars community is brain damaged cuz we have a wammo? im just making up the 80% part but im thinking its around that

chances are, unless someones brand-new to the class (and even then some people pick up faster than others and vice versa) if they suck with a wammo, they're gunna suck with a monk, an ele, or anything else. my point is, if someone is a bad player or a total moron, those are generally afflictions of the person, not the character they're playing. and yes, certain character types attract certain kinds of idiots, but to outright say every wammo, assassin, monk, whatever the case may be, sucks...is ignorance at its finest.

If I want a specific skin I pay what it takes. All your really paying for is a look. I only buy GOLD (Req.8) Max Items because thats what I want on my toons account and if your picky about it, you will have to pay for it.
If you are informed and educated on things before you purchase them you wont allow people to rip you off...there is always another perfect (Req.8) GOLD item around the corner. I love when a seller says offer and my reply is no, lol they always are like what do you mean no? No is a very powerful word when buying items.

I never said making a profit is wrong, but the genius I quoted seems to think what he does is somehow distincty different and acceptable, and what someone who asks a highprice for an item does is greedy and "disgusting"....
