A Guild Wars Nightfall Intro Screensaver by Xenrath for your desktop. Following the popular Factions Intro Screensaver I've gone ahead and made the Nightfall Intro Screensaver.

The full rotation takes about 10 minutes, I couldn't get a perfect seam at the loop due to the animated water but it's barely noticeable. The video was recorded at full detail, with 4x Anti Aliasing. You might need a reasonably fast machine to enjoy at its best, not too sure. For reference, my computer at the time of this post has Windows XP, Pentium 4 3ghz, 1Gb memory, ATI Radeon X800.

DOWNLOAD: Guild Wars Nightfall Login/Panorama Screensaver, High Quality. 64.7mb, self installer (Xvid codec required)
- Download from FileFront
- Download from GW Guru

  • If you get a black screen, you probably need the Xvid codec. Get it from here http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml The "latest stable binary" near the top.
  • Run the Screensaver installer, this should bring up the Display Properties after installing (if it doesn't just bring it up yourself.)
  • Select "GW Nightfall Panorama" screensaver, and adjust the settings to suit. From here you can add your own music playlist, change the size of the video etc.
  • That's it! Preview it, or let it fire up like a normal screensaver.
  • To uninstall, you can remove it from Add/Remove programs or the Start menu under Programs.

----------------------

For those who like the intro music, here it is. 10.5mb, 11.5 minutes - not the highest quality settings and recorded the seagulls/waves etc. so it shouldn't interfere with any music CD plans Anet/NCsoft might have.

DOWNLOAD: Nightfall Intro Music mp3
- Download from FileFront
- Download from GW Guru

You can add that to the playlist of the screensaver and it will be more or less like the ingame intro then, just lower quality.

Just to add this one was recorded at a higher native resolution than the Factions one (1152x864) though I tried to keep a balance between quality and file size.

I'll add the music in a little while

I've added a capture of the title music for use with this screensaver. Alternatively you can use your own music, or even the captured sound from the Factions intro, also in GWG Downloads. I'm hoping Inde can host/mirror the Screensaver as well but if anyone else wants to mirror it too, feel free!

Again, I've kept the background sounds in as well so it won't interfere with any music plans Anet may have. Enjoy

I don't think it's a problem Overnite - it is fanwork if you will. The Factions saver has been around since that login screen was rolled out without issue. Other examples are the numerous wallpapers and movies etc. using images and material from Anet. It's simply fan work, not intended in any way for profit

That said, if anyone from Anet does have any issues with these things it can easily be removed and stopped, no problem. As their reps frequent these boards and have said nothing it's not hurting anyone.

Nice one Inde, thanks

Very nice !, built in mp3 player aswell is great, custom background music. I had to enable the stretch option for my 1440*900 resolution but it still looks good.

This is now being hosted very kindly by Inde and the GWG team, available from the Downloads section (including the Factions saver/sounds)

I will keep my original links in this thread intact for now to help with server load.

As a note: I'm maintaining mirrors of the screensavers at my filefront page here - http://hosted.filefront.com/xenrath (along with various other contributions)

Its only Illegal if he decides to sell it.

Right now its considered fan work, which is what ANET allows.

Im getting a black screen when I try to see it. I have Xvid, so thats not the problem. What could it be?

Can you still hear sound/music? Try adding an mp3 file or two to the playlist in the settings then fire it up/preview.

If you hear the music but no display then it is probably a codec clash. Try uninstalling Xvid and then reinstalling:

http://www.koepi.org/XviD-1.1.0-30122005.exe

(from the link in the main instructions)

When you install it make sure "Decode all supported FourCCs" is checked at the prompt. This will cause Xvid to be your decoder instead of DivX (should be no noticeable adverse effects to any divx movies you have)

Failing that you can try uninstalling DivX first (assuming you have that installed) then uninstall Xvid, reboot and try reinstalling Xvid again as above. See if that helps

Ok thanks. I uninstalled Xvid and DivX, then just reinstalled Xvid and it worked great.

I got a "Cannot determine the device type from the given filename extension" error when I tried to run it with the music...but it works fine if I convert the file to a WAV. But WAV files are so large

I like it a lot though, if truth be told, I was a little dissapointed by the quality of the video. At first I assumed that it was because I used a higher resolution than what it was recorded in, but even when I clicked the option to not stretch it it still was not that good - I don't know if that's something that can be helped, though.

There's always going to be some quality loss compared to the real thing, the actual 10 minute capture takes up over 12Gb, recorded at the higher resolution. 12Gb+ into roughly 60Mb is a pretty massive compression as it is To increase the quality more would result in an even bigger download and I tried to keep it roughly the same size as the Factions one.

I'm not sure if 100Mb+ download would have been so practical for most people The other method would have been to record it at a lower resolution but then you'd have to stretch it more...

If I get some time I might try to play around with the compression/recording settings some more see if I can do any better.

I would love to get my hands on the 12 GB copy. Hint hint, download? lol. As for compression, what are you using to capture it? Something like gamecam works good if you want on-the-go compression and a good quality, especially if you record at the higher resolutions
