*talks like an old man*

Bak in myyyy daaaaay, IIIII staaarted out as a Me/R myself.... and yooou knooo what??

I didn't really use any of the Ranger skills. I just couldn't find an effective way to use them properly in PvE. I suppose you could find some use for Storm Chaser and use Troll Unguent as a healing replacement, but that's two skills, and you'd luck out from the inspiration line

I wish I had a build, but going pure mesmer is good enough IMO.

Well, you CAN go Serpent's Quickness...and use Echo...even though I hate Echo...

If you need any elite, you can go Me/R for Serpent's Quickness instead of Mantra of Recovery, but that's all I can think of. And Troll Unguent, of course.

While you can draw on some secondary class features (selfheals, defensive or speedboost stances) none of them are particularly effective in PvE when compared to the ones in the mesmer line (distortion for example, which also uses an attribute line you would be using for offence already).

Actually, I like Me/Mo for the fastcast Resurrection and Me/E for the Glyph. GLYPH OWNS.

Im pure mes M/ and love my build. But I want a pet and have been thinking about changing secondary to ranger just to have a pet. If I did do this I would keep my build the same and just remove one skill so I could equip "charm animal". How do you think this would work... keep in mind I want to stay pure mes with just "charm animal" equipped. The thing is I would not equip "comfort animal" therefore I would not be able to heal my pet. What do you guys think about this? I doubt I'll do it because I love my mes as he is but I justed wanted to hear what you all think thnks!

None, free and clear

I play mine as Me/E. Mostly to cap Ele skills along the way, but sometimes I use GoR yea. Or FC Ele. The FC Res is overrated. I'd much rather FC Remove Hex or something, and not that this matters anyhow in PvE.

The R secondary have their uses in some part of the game. Like using Broadhead Arrow in Unwaking Waters to interrupt scales. While using WW to deal damage fast (WW end faster than normal on Kuunavang, it pretty much ended and delt its damage by the time WW recharges, so you can keep spamming it.)

Oh, I've played an Me/R in PvE for a while now. It's tricky to learn how to use the ranger skills (W/Rt is trickier, so far, though ), but once you figure it out it can be quite powerful.

First off, I almost never use Ether Feast. Even with high inspiration magic, it simply does not heal enough to make it better than Troll Unguent, unless you're fighting in an area where you expect to be continually interrupted... even then, the AI is not much better at interrupting something with a 3 sec cast than at something with a 2 sec cast.

There are some ranger skills which can be used to mitigate damage from ranged and melee attackers or avoid it altogether, such as Dryder's Defenses and Storm Chaser, respectively. A few of the nature rituals can be handy and shake things up a bit, but you'll have to figure those out for yourself, I usually have better skills to bring. Serpent's Quickness complements Fast Casting nicely, allowing you to get off even more spells in a short span of time... though you must keep an eye on your energy when using it.

But the real fun is to be had with Epidemic. It's not linked to an attribute, which helps with this little game... raise your Marksmanship and Wilderness Survival nice and high, and put excess points in Fast Casting. Take skills that cause conditions (except Incendiary Arrows, the effect is too short), rangers have plenty of them. Traps (which you can use Mantras to make uninterruptible) and things like Apply Poison or Pin Down(watch your energy with those ones), Hunter's Shot, or best of all, if you can spare an elite, Melandru's Arrows, Crippling Shot, or Poison Arrow.

The fun part comes when you get a condition or two, or three... on large groups of enemies... then you cast epidemic on one of them. He'll have the conditions removed, but his buddies will suddenly all have them instead. Several professions can take advantage of this. Many skills depend on conditions. For example you might suggest, if you try this, that warriors who have space for an elite bring "Victory is Mine!"

Give it a shot. I doubt it would work at all in PvP, but in PvE it's loads of fun.

Last I checked, WW and all other hexes have the normal durations on Factions bosses. That trick does work wonders in Prophecies, though.

I like echo more than glyph, because often you can get quad spells out of it on low-recharge things like shatter hex.

I'm in the same situation at the moment, which is to say I'm playing with a ranger secondary and carefully and diligently leveling my dire tiger. Nevertheless, I can't say that I've found any real synergies for a mesmer/ranger specializing in beast mastery. As others have noted it seems much more natural to play a pure mesmer.

Nevertheless, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions that would help me develop some good mesmer-beast master build. I'd hate to see my carefully nutured cat spend all his time cat napping.

Well, you can also use condition-inducing pet attacks with Epidemic, I suppose. But having your skill bar disabled at a bad moment due to pet death is very, very bad. Not only do you miss chances to interrupt and such, but you are extremely vulnerable... mesmers are quite 'squishy'. I doubt the pet is worth taking 2 slots on your skill bar (taking a pet w/o a pet res skill is like driving around your car with no spare tire, if you get a flat, the whole trip was a waste... if your pet dies, you have a totally worthless skill in your bar).

As far as M/R goes for me im going to stay with my pure mes build whe on missions and in AB etc... however when spending my spare time farming I'll equip charm animal just for fun. Conjure Nightmare FTW!
