Ivory in Nightfall? or Panda/Crane Syndrome?

So, is there any speculation on whether ANet will follow their trend and not allow Ivory into Nightfall? The reason I mention ivory is because the Paragon descriptions I read talk about ivory armour (assuming material and not just colour). Ivory is a real big no-no in quite a few places, including the U.S. Many groups are opposed to farming ivory due to the cruelty to the animals involved. Do you think that ArenaNet will have Ivory as a material for armour like Jade/Amber is in Factions or do you think they'll have something else and maybe change the description?

They might use plant fiber? Why not

If they don't allow it they are bending over and getting ass ****** by the political correctness crap yet again.

It's possible; but then again they didn't even allow for pet pandas as they didn't want them to die. And they changed the pet cranes so their heads are blue instead of red cause they looked too much like an endangered species. At any rate there's no real point in speculating and we may as well just wait til Nightfall goes live.

political correctness is going to eat us alive. Its not like the game is about going into the sabanna to hunt elephants with our shotguns , take their Ivory and let the animal to rot. Its more like a medieval fantasy game inspired in North Africa, what does my medieval tribal fantasy warrior wants to make his armor look good, white and shiny? ah yes, Ivory.

Its not like people playing the game are going to get inspired and go kill elephants.¬¬

We know Ehe, but, people are just ignorant like that and will not allow Fantasy to be Fantasy.

On the OTHER hand if Anet does allow ivory, they'll be accused of practising double standards. Or perhaps they haven't even thought about this issue because the opponent isn't the largest population in the world.

Depends on what CHINA thinks about Ivory.

China on the other hand, will BAN your game from their country if you cross them (Like the Panda Crane thing).

It isnt a double standard, its getting your game BANNED vs having some animal huggers send you angry letters.

Yeah, from the descriptions...my guess is it didn't even occur to them, hence this thread. I'm pretty tired of all of the political correctness in fantasy games (well, I guess ANet's the only one I know of trying to be), but it would be rather funny the feedback if they went out of their way to consider a culture such as China/Southeast Asia and completely blew off Africa like everyone else does...

Personally, I'm with Knighsaber... Virtual Safaris would be fun, and wouldn't tempt me to fly to Africa to go bag an Elephant or Rhino. I've got Hatari to watch for that lol...

I think Former Ruling hit it on the head.. It isn't about 'respecting other cultures' so much as it is about not getting banned. That's cool. Just call it as it is, not what sounds nicer. Leave that to the philanthopists.

Ongoing with what you said Merc, is that everyone needs to keep in mind that this is Fantasy we're discussing, not Reality.

Be careful with the topics and ways you bring things up. We all know that some countries still allow the farming of ivory, weather you support it or not, try your best to leave all country names and organizations out of this, do only your best to debate weather we will have ivory in this game or not.

Also, keep in mind, this is a game, ivory doesn't have to come from any animals when it involves fantasy.

Country BASHING is different than mentioning them as a reason for Ivory or not...Considering things like this in the discussion is not off topic...

Trying to justify stuff like the panda, crane, and ivory using ingame terms would not be possible, and would be a quite silly discussion actually considering that we know why these things are left out or changed, and it has nothing to do with ANYTHING in the game itself.

Also the monsters for killing the pets, and other monsters for taming the cranes and making them attack you

Just don't get your hopes up for pet African elephants.
