I am building a new PC and wondered if it was possible to copy my existing gw.dat file to the new machine to save all the downloads again?
The process I was thinking of was this:
Copy existing gw.dat to either a USB external hard drive, DVD, or a NAS drive on my network (If I get that set up).
Install Prophecies from CD on the new PC.
Copy gw.dat to new PC overwriting the one created by installing Prophecies.
Is this likely to work, or am I will I be wasting my time trying?
I have both Prophecies and Nightfall installed.
Cheers!
Copying GW.dat to new pc.

It will work just fine, you should copy gw.exe as well though.
Put the two files into a directory (like C:\Program Files\Guild Wars) and then run gw.exe from there
It will notice that GW isn't install and ask you to install, pick reinstall to current location and it will add the registry entries and make a shortcut on your desktop.
I really like that it's so easy
