Last night I finally got to level 20 with my primary character....aaand it was just like all the other level-ups I'd had.

Why do people make it look like something magical happens when you hit level 20?

(and no, this isn't an "I'm bored" thread, cause I still have a lottt of stuff to do)

Level 20 just means that you can now compete on even footing in PvP and can get in post-lowbie area PvE groups. Nothing "special" happens outside of the health and attribute point increases. By the way, don't forget the quests to get the rest of your attribute points (you should end up with a total of 200).

It isn't that level 20 is so much different from level 19.

It is just meaningful because it is the apex. Your character is done levelling and has reached full potential. A lot of people see it as a milestone.

First of all, grats on reaching level 20!

Now you will be able to better participate in late-game missions, elite areas like UW, FoW, Tombs, Factions elite missions, and of course, PvP!

Theres a certain bias to below lvl 20.

Like in Desert Missions for example.

Lvl 20 now means you dont have to worry about that.

Now you gotta worry about armor and class bias only

You don't know what to do?? WOW!!!! This isn't WoW. Ok, well, once reaching level 20, doing missions get to Henge of Denravi (if you haven't already), find a runner, or run yourself to maguuma stade, there will be a quest taking you to Riverside Province (if you haven't already), then do the quest and you'll be taken to sanctum cay, after that you'll be taken to Amnoon Oasis (crystal desert), you need to do 3 missions and kill doppleganger and you'll have ascended, after ascending, you'll be taken to dragons lair, do that and you'll be taken to droks, to Ice Caves of Sorrow to get to this other mission (which I can't remember), do the mission and you'll be infused... then I think you get taken to Ring of fire, where you complete the game, look on guildwiki for storyline and objectives.

Well reaching 20 used to mean for the most part ascending and that opened new realms for us. But now in general it means no more level grind.

Congrats on your 20 ^_^

Sorry nothing magical happens. Your character does not look any different. You do not have a glowing aura around you. You are just 1 level higher than a level 19.

Wow.. I really hope I'm missing the sarcasm here, every noob I've met in this game is level 20...
But you are kind of right. Being level 20 gives a psychological advantage over level 19, making you more likely to be accepted into PUGs.

I never saw anyone making it sound like that.

But it is kinda something special because it's the final level.

I remember thinking something "special" would happen when you hit lvl 20. I was kind of dissapointed also.

Also, remember being new and seeing people in mission areas spamming, "lvl 20 tank ascended and infused lfg" lol I thought being ascended or infused gave you some kind of godly-like powers or made you some kind of uber warrior. That was another dissapointment, finding out it only made you resistant to mursaat dmg.

The level cap is awful thing. I bought this game thinking that some day I can be a godly character with very powerful equipments and taunt weaker ones all day. Now there is only 19 levels between me and the beginner.

After completing the path of Ascension and gain access the Fissure of Woe and the Underworld. These areas are the most popular for being full of lootable riches. You can farm these areas and gain enough resources for the most expensive armor in the game, Obsidian Armor. You can also enter the Fissure of Woe intent on finding treasures by hunting down Obsidian Chest and revealing what's inside, usually rare weapons. The Fissure of Woe and the Underworld are also popular for being defeatable using particular team builds and exploring groups. You can become a member of these groups and aid them in there quests for the spirits that dwell there.

Also, after achieving your full potential you could explore the whole world. Sight seeing and adventure making are a few of the many things i do in the wild. The ability to dodge enemies, tackle harsh terrain, evade traps are just some of the adventering skills you will need to become one of the few Grandmaster Cartographers. Talking of titles, there are many titles available for completing certain tasks. Such as the Survivor title, earned by learning the ways of the worlds without dying. The Wisdom titles, earned by inspecting the rare weapons you obtain by killing other monsters, opening chests, or as a reward for certain quests.

I don't have the time to talk of everything available to you when you hit your limit. I have an appointment with an unknown land, unknown to me atleast, that is in need of dire exploration.

the thing about lvl 20 is that mow you are considered equal to all the "maxed out" characters.

just dont get me wrong, *lvl 20* vs *lvl 20* is same thing as *lvl 99* vs *lvl 99*

Quick questions not worth starting a new thread over:

Does PvP in GW consist solely of lvl 20 players? Are there lower level "brackets" in which we newbs can get our feet wet?

I just started playing Prophecies yesterday. Questing and leveling is pretty fun, but I'm really looking forward to PvP.

as a side note you can also create an instant PVP character that is already lvl 20 so you can jump right in to the PVP

I did see that, but I'm sure I would get rolled hard. I came from WoW, so the combat/skill system makes me feel like a fish out of water.

I rolled a Warrior/Monk and am nearing post-searing. I'll probably stick with this character for a while, but in the future, would it be advisable to PvE with a few more characters to get a feel for how other professions fight, or is it easier to pick that up by jumping right into PvP?

Complete a campaign with a profession so you get a feel for it - if you jump right into PvP you'll get hit in the face hard.

PvE is a much more forgiving environment for learning about how each of the professions work in the field. If you still feel that you have more to learn about the professions and how they work, as well as how to combine your skills for greater effectiveness, PvE tends to be a better environment to do it in.

If you want to get some practice in with basic PvP, there are some lower level arenas that you can use (accessible from Ascalon City/Post-Searing, Yak's Bend, Shing Jea Monastery and Kamadan) although these aren't much like the real PvP arenas that can be found on the Battle Isles. It should be noted that every arena on the Battle Isles requires you to be level 20, expects you to have a full complement of 200 attribute points and expects you to be able to hold your own in a highly dynamic environment. Not particularly noob-friendly at all.

I just found the PvP Primer articles at GW.com. It sounds like the training missions offered to PvP-only characters will be a good place to start.

I have to say, coming from WoW's tacked on, shallow and mostly pointless PvP system, the fact that The Isle of the Nameless is even there for budding PvPers has me excited.

Thanks for the replies.

The main upside of level 20 is being able to max your attribute points to increase your damage ability. Now's the time you begin collecting elites and developing your play style.

Some players may brag about getting to places like Droks at a low level by being run there, but they can't go out the gate on their own without dying almost instantly.

For everyone who claims that being lvl 20 now makes you equal to everyone else, it definitly does not. If you think so just fight me 1 on 1 and we will see just how equal we are. being able to make an awsome build is what makes you good in this game, not being lvl 20. lvl 20 just lets you use awsome builds more efectivly.
