I've played alot of pvp games and MMORPG. By far the best community was and still is eve online. So with my time spent playing guild wars, I think it's a good idea to create a realistic view of GW for the new player.

Outposts and people to meet

You'll meet intresting people who will try to sell items for 5x their real value. Before buying check the guru auctions for the real price.

You'll find that people don't use trade chat. Instead they like to spam local trade with the items they try to sell.

When you speak to people do not expect them to use english. Instead they will abbreviate everything. SpitefulSpirt becomes SS. Looking for group becomes LFG. This is a fantastic way to turn off people from playing guild wars who simply have no idea what you're talking about.

When people ever ask somebody what does that abbreviation mean. Expect people to say NOOB and follow with SCREENIE. So that they can show people what a noob you are for asking about the game you are playing. Simply counter act this by not playing GW.

PVP

Pvp is a great selling point for GW. If you enjoy pitting your wits against a group of people who band together then create clever combinations and strategys this is the game for you.
Unless of course you don't have at least a lvl 5 hero rank when you start the game and a microphone and also a full understanding of all abbreviations. Then you're just going to get snubbed by the entire friendly community.
Yeah.. Your best off just sticking to random team arenas actually.

Guid to abbreviations and Key words

^^ = I'm an arrogant wanker who doesn't need to speak to the likes of you. This symbol means im almighty and know much more than you ever could.

>_> = I'm rolling my eyes at you because you asked a question which showed you're a noob. What are you doing in this guild/group/team with the likes of me?

.... = I'm tired of these noobs playing my game and reserve the right to comment about what a uneducated wanker you are.

MASTER LFG = I've never managed to get master on any missions.

PRO PLAYER LFG = Ive somehow accidently typed pro at the start of my sentance.

Abuse and TeamWork

I hope you die of cancer and NOOB!! OMG!! YOU KNOW NOTHING! YOU ALLSUK!

Any of those terms are acceptable to use against your team if you happen to loose in battle.

Well I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I've enjoyed typing it and I hope those that this applies to understand that their behaviour really pisses me off. Happy playing.

The only game i dont get is EVE.. spent 1 hour in the tutorial, i never spend 3 minutes on a learning curve..

Back to GW, about the economy and ppl selling things 5x value, so what, this is a player driven econonmy (with small guidance from Anet), if X player wants to sell his platinum bow at X gold, and Y player wants to buy it, Z player doesnt haft to.

And about pvp, I agree with you, when I get frustrated I just go do RA.

And master lfg, there was once a time in Raisu palace, one dude was making a "master's group", I got a protector of cantha title for my Rit (I am ze master!), and i was bored, he wouldnt even let me in his group!

Are you trying to say that ummm.....EVE Online doesn't have ANY OF THESE?

But to be honest, I was either AFK waiting for my oh-so-slow spaceship to fly to a place or trying to figure out the....out-of-this-world user-interface (Well, it's a game about space after all) to really care about chat panel.

what a cynical guide

not balanced at all
- should be called "the bad things about Guild Wars community"

reading this guide, you would think that everyone who plays is a snot
