Able to be Left handed or Right handed!
alexthefire
Well im left handed in real life and I think it's pretty lame that you can only be right handed in guild wars.
So I was thinking why not be able to be left handed or right?
You could switch at any time you wanted....
Well I thought it was a small but cool idea I would like to see
Post your thoughts and give me a little

I'm left handed in RL and I dont give a flying wotsists about which hand my characters use since they arnt me, they are fictional characters.
Maybe we all missed a bit of lore where all people in this world are forced to be right handed at school? Togo could have been a harsh teacher!

I usually judge a thread in these forums simply on the basis of whether or not its worth the time of the programmers to shift focus from whatever they're doing to the suggestion in the thread.
I'm afraid this suggestion doesn't come out on the winning side.

wouldn't this be just a 'flip' character-like thing? the only thing to watch out for is the armor, face and weapons.

Since when some guys in this forum know if it is worth to Anet's time. It easily might be one from many features what suddenly appear even without suggesting in forum. Not signed is meaningless in this feature because they anyway desire if they want add it. He just reminds Anet from it.

You could very well assume that removing head gear or cape animation is not worth the developers time, but in actuality this is an exceedingly easy addition and it would allow some people to enjoy a left oriented person, and some more variety in their style.
Improved graphics and features are important, that is why we get a dozen new faces for exsisting classes in each chapter, and why we get a dozen new armors just so we can change our outfit and provide variety to our look. I say plenty of people would like to be left handed, among many other small alterations, and it would certainly take less programming to reoriente exsisting graphics than create new ones like armor.
Left handed/left orientation, underhanded use of daggers and certain swords, 2 handed use of large sword and axes, and other graphical alterations would all greatly improve players customization options making the characters more satisfying. Note that when I say 2 hands on a weapon I don't mean remove the shield from one handed weapon use, I just mean both hands are on the weapon. Alterations like this can be made available through options just like the remove headpiece or cape indicators in inventory, with certain large swords you could be able to choose 2 hands on the weapon as long as your using a shield that can be attached to the outside of the arm, this means if you have an Icon Off-Hand you wouldn't have that option, and small swords as well as most daggers can be equipped underhanded.
Don't underestimate the value of variation and optional visual features, eye candy is a significant selling point.

I agree that there ought to be left-handed characters in the game.
The whole spirit of GuildWars is variety of gameplay. You can play alone or with others, with NPC henchmen or human teammates, in guilds or factions or as an independent, doing quests or only missions, roleplaying or PvP only. The customization in the game is wonderful, too, giving you control over everything from hairstyle to armor color.
It's only fitting, then, that this variety and customization should extend to the obvious choice of right- or left-handedness. I mean, if I had to choose between whether or not my helmet is visible in towns OR which hand my character uses for his primary weapon, I'd gladly choose the latter even if it meant sacrificing the former.
I suggested this to the official GuildWars help site (PlayNC) and they recommended I come to one or more of these forums and make my suggestion. I was glad to see that others had beat me to it. Supposedly NCSoft watches these forums for what people are wanting.
So...if you or your friends think this is a worthy suggestion, please add your 2 cents here and on all the main GW forums you go to.
Thanks, all!

Several armor variations only make sense if the character is right handed. Look at ranger armor or glads armor. The way the shoulders or arm pieces are set up in many ranger armors is to allow movement in the right arm to pull the bow. The large metal "shoulder" of warrior gladator armor is on the right side, the side that needs more protection since it lacks the shield to cover that side.

Pointless overall.

Spoken like a true righty.
If I told you there was a moderately simple change that could greatly increase the enjoyment of the game by 1 out of every 6 players, would you consider it pointless even to suggest it? If I told you there was some technical glitch that prevented 1 out of every 6 players from being able to play the game, wouldn't that be a significant issue for tech support?
Seems to me this is at least on the level of the ability to vary the height and skin tone of a character. Does it really change gameplay? No. But it enhances the enjoyment of the game and adds to the emphasis on allowing the player to customize his character to his satisfaction.
It's interesting to me that one of the Sword Skills in GuildWars is Benetti's Defense, which is a reference to the scene in Princess Bride in which they are fighting left-handed.

This just proves my point.......the more anet does for us, the more the player want. There's always going to be someone complaining about something.

I'm sorry if my posts have come across as complaining. That's not what I meant at all. I love GuildWars. It's the best MMORPG--and possibly the best CRPG--I've ever played. No complaints at all.
But I thought this was the place to come to post suggestions and ideas for the game.

this is pointless...
There's already hundreds of graphic glitches in the game, you're just making it more complicated.

For the record - /signed because it bugs me that everything is right-handed

Although this would be a cool idea to further invidualise characters I imagine it wouldn't be an easy task to implement. Perhaps if they could 'mirror image' characters rather than re-animating them? Sync emotes wouldn't work so well though since animations would be left<->right inverted. Well anyway, probably alot of effort for little effect.

....stupid.

Meh, I honestly don't care if you guys do not like the idea of it. I just think it would be a small feature that makes the game feel more "realistic" and appealing to left handed people. It is for those who like to be involved with their character that they play.
Terrible Surgeon
yeah pretty petty for a complaint if you ask me. Scraping the bottom of the barrel?

Not worth it. Doesn't affect gameplay, just game ascetics. I have met a large number of left handed people in my life, and am related to a few even. None of them have ever been 'proud' of being left handed. It seems like you need to make everyone aware of your left handed nature, but there is no point in that. I agree it might be a nice feature for people to have available, but I also know it may cause new glitches and bugs to pop up. And no matter how simple it is to code, it would make people who have characters with titles and /age status upset since they want it to be a left handed character and can't do that anymore. Then it becomes a micro that few people use.
