Missing sounds after recent updates
swiftygem
After the recent updates, I have some of the sounds missing. Like when I'm casting an enchantment on myself - that should make a sound while casting, but it only makes the "final" sound after it's finished. Same with blessed signet. Or when I activate sprint with my warrior - no sound. Anyone else having this problem?

yes, I have noticed this from time to time. With my ritualist...sometimes when I cast Spirit Rift it's fine. Sometimes I don't see the white circle above her head or any sound until she casts it. Rather odd. I was having memory problems and since I now am only on half RAM for the time being I put it down to that but if other people are having the same problem then maybe it's not me...

I am having the same problems and ANET have still haven't issued a statement at least on what they intend to do about it.

It's true that in the case of activating sprint, for example, it doesn't even show the visual effect of it (the trail behind the character). So it's probably more than just the sound of skill activation not playing.

Yeah, I found another one yesterday. I cast retribution on my new Mo/W and got no sound and no animation. Not even the spinning white skulls rotating around me.

i have an issue with too much sound now. even my monk with tattoo armor makes a sound as if he wears a ringmail and everybody else around me too. it's very annoying.

I can't hear any of the normal weapons-hitting-flesh/armour noises since the update this morning
It's so weird to play like that...makes it seem really dreamlike and unreal. Annoying as hell also, i didn't realise how much i rely on those sounds as a melee char to tell if i'm hitting or missing, or as a monk/caster to tell if i or someone else is being hit and i need to do sth about it.

I've found that sometimes when I use Dodge the animation doesn't appear, nor does the sound occur. Odd. =\

When my characters change their secondary professions at the profession changer after switching cities or districts, the initial lighting + sound effects are always skipped. After that, these effects work normally again. This glitch is very easy to replicate.

Very strange... I had the same problem after the huge update some days ago, although it was random, sometimes the sounds didn't work sometimes they did - however after the update today everything seems to be ok again.

For the past 2 weeks or so I've only been missing a good majority of my sounds in game. The only sounds I hear are random footsteps, music, and whenever I cancel a spell or have it interrupted. It's somewhat annoying to be playing and all I can hear is music and then have this sudden click whenever my a skill gets interrupted...
Anyone else having problem with just music/skill interruptions playing?

I've been missing sound and skill effects too. However, it's kinda temporary on my computer. Whenever I enter a new zone, the first time I cast any spell, it will be missing the effect and as a result the sound too. After that, whenever I cast the same spell again, the effect and sound are both play properly (until I enter a new zone, then rinse and repeat). Some spells with two parts aren't always affected, like someone mentioned, I never lose the sound when a spirit appears, but the first time will be missing the casting sound (because the effect is missing).
Ah poo, nvm what I said. In a full party, I still randomly lose effects and sound.

Same here. Sometimes the visual effects and sounds don't appear when using a skill, but other times they do.

I am still having these problems a month on from the big update.
Some hope would be nice.

I'm still having problems. I don't always get sounds when I:
Use a stance;
Gain a skill point;
Use and enchantments;
Cast a spirit.
Annoying.

I've also noticed some sounds not playing when they should off and on.

i still think this is linked to the missing gfx effects bug. while they supposedly fixed that in the oct 12th update (it did get better), i still lose gfx effects from time to time and the corresponding sounds that go with it.
Daemon Loki
I've also had a few spell casting sounds and graphics not work for me and I'm still getting problems with finishing quests and level ups They seem to work in town every time fine but outside of town they work at random and I've noticed when guildies are playing with me they hear me level-up/finish a quest but I do not.
I have tried the following solutions: down grading my graphics card drivers, removing the data file and doing a -image, uninstalling the game and completely reinstalling it, changing all the graphics settings none of those have worked yet.
The quest sound problem for me started during the Preview Event, I really hope these problems get fixed when Nightfall goes live.

Well, I guess I haven't had the sound on lately because I usually am talking in Vent or listening to music... so I have no idea exactly it's been like this.
Didn't ANet have an update for this a while back?

Hello, sorry to be reviving this rather old thread, but I have been having this issue since I play Guild Wars, until today.
When I start Gw and begin playing there are no sounds missing, and everything sounds like what it should sound, but, after some minutes of playing, I notice that some skills don't make any sound when being cast, although those on my heroes/henchies can be heard, and,not only skill casting sounds, but also normal attack sounds like the staff fire or sword hit, etc.
It also mutes some GUI sounds, such as the one when you target something in the radar (actually the one I miss the most :x ), or calling some target.
I tried upgrading my soundcard drivers but it remained the same.
My soundcard is the aging soundblaster live 5.1 Digital. It is a cheap card nowadays, but it never gave me any trouble in other games.
I tried deactivating 3d sound, Eax, running it to see if the problem went away, running it in 5.1, running it with headphones in stereo, but it always happens the same.
Anet could you please look into this?

I run GW on three very different machines with wildly different audio devices, and I haven't heard this problem - nor have I heard about this from my GW-playing friends. There seemed to be an issue previously (as mentioned in the thread) related to certain skill sounds not showing up a while ago, but that one was supposedly resolved. What you're describing sounds a bit different to me. Unfortunately, it also sounds like you've already tried all of the obvious things I'd suggest first.
I'd recommend you contact support about this. They may have suggestions, and if all else fails, they can have you generate some hardware reports and forward it to the ANet programmers. I'd imagine these sort of problems would be pretty hard to fix if they can't reproduce the problem themselves.
