During the latest update after the files were patched I let my computer on after logging off because I noticed still data was being streamed. When I got back to the computer after a while GW had been aborted and I read a message: Disk full.
Now GW is intsalled on a 20GB partition that is almost exclusively reserved for this game. I checked and there's over 11 GB space left. GW itself at this moment uses 4 GB (which is more than the 2 GB it should need according to the box) Anyway, how is it possible that the disk is full? There's enough space

Most likely because it's formatted as FAT32, that old crappy filesystem can't handle files larger than 4 GB.

However there was a fix posted in another thread on how to reduce the size of the gw.dat file that will reduce the file to a normal size (around 2.7 GB).

I'll post a link if I can find it.

Afaik you cant format a 20gb partition as FAT32... NTFS only.

Maybe you just have enough space for temporary files or virtual memory (I dont know if GW uses temporary files or where they are stored (if any))?

You can convert FAT32 partition to NTFS very easily, even without delete or format anything; Read Windows help. You have Windows XP, no? If you have Windows ME/98 or something, you has nothing to do but reinstall.

Its a 40 gig hd, devided into 2 20 gig partitions. This was done when I bought the computer 2 years ago, by the computershop's personel. I don't know what program they used for it. I bought the computer without operating system. At home I installed Windows ME on the C disk. After half a year I installed Windows XP at the D disk, and kept the possibillity to log on under ME in a starting menu.

Nowadays I never use ME anymore. GW is installed under XP (home edition). I have 512 MB cache reserved.

I can play GW, that seems to be no problem. But when I left my computer on yesterday for upstreaming data (in the log on screen) I found GW aborted with the message 'disk full'. Downloading and installing the new files today seems to work like it always worked before: good. So maybe it was an incident, but a weird one. I still wonder what caused it. Thanks for the info so far!
