Anti-Semitism in Guild Wars

I have probably reported about 3 people till now; not because they attacked me personally, but rather said racist or hatemongering remarks (these are terms taken directly from the Code of Conduct). I screenshot, detail the event and that is the end of it. I am not gonna teach these ppl how to behave or make them see things in a different way - but i am going to make it so these people have less of an audience.

I reported a player recently. A day later,on a hunch, decided to move them from my ignore list to my friends list; and viola! they were online. This made me scratch my head in wonder. Did NCSoft not deem the offense "racist and/or hatemongering"? You be the judge:

"All __________ people should be killed."
"<expletive> all ________ people"

I am not going to report twice, and it doesnt matter what kind of people he was talking about - that the player wasnt banned for such clear breaches of the Codes of Conduct actually worries me.

this was directly addressed some time back by the head of community relations.

simply put they have x number of people available to investigate claims of abuse.

this includes pulling the actual log of what was said.

yes they log everything you say.

some cases need much more digging than others and take more time.

she said they are taken care of first in first checked .

sometimes when it gets very busy it might be 2 weeks before they get to the one you reported.

it will be checked and action taken if needed.

hope that answers why it cant be instant justice.

she also said to keep reporting as they cant be ingame everywhere all the time and we are their eyes and ears so help them clean it up

Then why did i get an email from NCsoft saying the matter was resolved? It would only mean that NCSoft and by extension, Arena Net, do not mete out punishment for those in CLEAR violation of the Code of Conduct posted on their website.

One can only hope that our efforts make a difference.

The 10 ss i took make it clear that this was not just a "slip up" this was hate! IT SHOULD NOT HAVE 2 TAKE 5 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME BAD EXPERIANCE TO GET THIS PERSON A F-in BAN! This conversation was over 15 min.... it is clear 2 me that this was not a 1 time thing.


also... i dont know alot about the laws that guild wars must follow..... like, dnt they legaly have 2 make the gamplay "safe and fun" for all races and religions?

when it comes to trying 2 work it out with NCSOFT.... over 3 days i have got almost all pre-fab msgs from them... i am fed up with this.

if sum1 can dig up some laws on this stuff it would help if i deside on legal action...

that is exactly the same as the auto respond answer which is the first response you get from tech support.

since they are not allowed to reveal anything due to the privacy policy the email you got is to confirm they have it and that saves a ton of time they need to actually check.

i know a personal response would only take a minute and be nice but when there are literally thousands of one minutes it add up.

yes dummy it was one reported event not a series of events reported on different days so he was treated as a first time offender

all you sent Anet was one event that lasted 15 min not a bunch of separate events on different days which would be added flags.

Do you expect the responses to be that quick? Dude, you're not the only person who sends complaints to support. We clearly outnumber the number of tech support people Anet and NCsoft have working.

... It's this little thing called the REAL WORLD!! You ever hear of it? It's where people think, feel, act and SAY all SORTS of opinions. What's this mean? It means there are millions of people who hate you, and a million more that could care less, its a world full of free thinkers who hate something you love, for no reason, or a very good reason...

Now, what is the internet? People FROM the real world!! zomg!! The same people who hate anything, love anything or couldn't care less?? Don't take this the wrong way, but has the OP not stepped outside his house... ever? Or maybe just still a young mind, and maybe hasn't experienced much.

Come on people, of course racism and all forms of "hate" are mean and seem outright wrong. But they exist, has existed and will always exist in this world. People like you and me live with these haters our whole lives. We either ignore it or try and appease the offender. If it gets to be too much, of course a person can report behavior to the "authorities", in this case Anet, but the authorities can't make the perpitrator stop thinking they way they think, or to stop hating/loving what they want. All they can do is punish such behavior in hopes of deterring further incidents. And if it doesn't work, the world just keeps on turning...

EDIT:: Anet attempted to punish that person's behavior, but maybe they continued to think the way they have always thought; big shocker.

Sadly, you and any other victim of such behavior can only do the above mentioned things, or learn to live with it. As insensitive as it sounds, as others have already said, grow some thicker skin. You can be confident in one thing however: people who lash out with racism, any discrimination or hate behaviors are people who have deep-seated issues themselves. These people are reacting this way due to issues in their own lives that have screwed up their view on things. If you can make the conscience effort to move past such offenders, then don't look back on them in hate, rather, look back on them in pity.

*** Now let's not make this thread into a racism/hate thread. Take my advice... And mods, i suggest closing this thread before the trolls come.

EDIT:: And btw, part of my point was: Anet can only do so much, like the USA, they are NOT the world's (in this case, Internet's) mommy and daddy telling them what they can and cannot do. But they TRY and make things better. Don't hold them to any higher of an expectation, cause simply put, its a company existing to make money, not to grant us civil liberties. They have done LOTS already to make our online gaming experience as fun and grief free as they can.... so.... c'mon now!

since the OP hasnt stated the need to report him a second time after the offender came back from the temp ban maybe he will behave himself in game in the future.

Racism happens, anti-semitism happens, misogyny happens, lots of bad things happen. It's part of the adult world. Is it right? No, not necessarily. But everybody has their own opinions and their own feelings and, fortunately, in the good old USA, people are allowed to freely state those opinions.

Grow a thicker skin, or you'll never survive in the real world. They're words from a person you don't even know. From someone who you will most likely never even have to look in the face. Who you will probably never even talk to again. You're going to let their short-sightedness get to you? Go ahead, but you're just letting them win. That's what they want in the first place.

First off, before I say anything, I know the situation, the people involved, and this thread was posted in our guild forum for us to look at and post our own comments. The opinion may be buyist (excuse the spelling), but I also do know the people as you all do not.

Please note that all opinons are also relevant no matter who they came from.

The most horrible things about this, is the 'person' got about a 1 day ban at MAX. Within the hour I heard of him getting banned, He was back online. In addition, the offense and situation said above was in a Private PM, However, while waiting for a ferry for urgoz a day or two before the ban, he also found his way into our group and precedid to bash said member in the team chat. I also have seen him slander said member in Main Chat at many populated areas. The simple fact that NCSoft or Anet (whichever the responsibility falls to) only gave the member a short ban is understandable (no matter how wrong it may seem), however, I can only hope that this person will continue to slander AARON so that maybe with future reports, said 'persons' account will cease to exist as he knows it with a permanent ban.

Yes, I was called a nasty name pertaining to the jewish community and I am of mixed heritage(black/white/Choctaw). The ranger in general that made the comment I wasn't sure of his race but it wasn't called for.

Now being that a number of people reported him and Anet doing something about it I don't know as I never got a response saying they did (would hope they would).

I tell you what on a note from this if a person came up to my face in the real world making racial comments that were negative to me, regardless of this being the good old USA they would be telling their great grandchildren about the great @$h wooping they got.

so basically u're suffering 'cos u dont know how to use ignore list and to ban ppl from ur vent? do u answer him in any form? i'm sry but so happens i believe in anet's abilities to deal with such issues, if u were reporting every single incident they'll get some critical amount of tickets and banned that player for i dunno... a week or more but so far it looks like a personal matters, u cant accuse anet in cultivating antisemitism in-game, ppl who removed pet pandas and exchanged the nice cranes for a plucked turkeys cant be accused in cultivating antisemitism or anything like this... but he's ur former guildie, what u did to him btw? were u offending him 'cos he's not jewish? i mean u cant just post smth here and expect evr1 to believe u, i'd rather believe anet, sry.... as for the freedom of speech, well, if u expect ppl to respect ur opinion u have to respect theirs, evr1 have their say (and their ignore list)

and i'm not sure what do u want anet to do now - call the interpol or get this guy's house bombed w/o warning cos u say so?
