Laptop & Blue Screen of Death

Alright, trying to get GW to run on my Gf's computer. SHe has a Sony Vaio laptop, and it exceeds not only minimal but also recommend system specs for Guild Wars Prophecies and Nightfall. IN fact, it exceeds a desktop machine which I use at home, and my machine cna run GW flawlessly.

We are able to play for about 5-10 minutes before getting a blue screen of death. It flashes far too quickly to be able to read it, unfortunately. We find that the problem can be reduced slightly by not having the inventory/merchant/storage/etc. window open so often, apparently.

Furthermore, while loading new areas (Sunqua Vale, for example) despite having all updates downloaded, it will give us an Error=005, which is incredibly aggravating.


If anyone is able to help, please ask all the questions you need to, and we will do our bets to comply with any information, and test any possible or theoretical solutions to the issues.

Well, I'm not too knowledgable when it comes to this, but I know that sometimes you might need to update your graphics drivers for a game to play correctly. Just find out who makes your graphics card, then go to their website and download the drivers for your specific card in the drivers section. I think Vaio's use Nvidia GeForce, but you should check that just in case.

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) is usually associated with driver error. Try updating all the device drivers on your computer to their newest version.

Second cause is that the fact that you're trying to play on a laptop, which already have a serious cooling issue. Your desktop have no problem is because there's planty of room inside that box to keep the air circulating. But laptop have little room in it. Try reducing the graphic setting, it will help ease the heat generating.

I used to have a Vaio, and it never had cooling problems. It got hot sometimes, but I never got a Bsod from playing an game. But I guess if he's playing on the highest graphics settings, then that could be the cause.

Thanks for the input, but the graphic settings have already been reduced, and still, the problem persists.

The message on the blue screen does mention something about an infinite loop, maybe that has something to do with it?

I think that the blue screen always says the same thing, no matter what the problem really is. Did you try downloading the drivers yet?

If it has a Geforce graphics card and you get a loop error then....deal with it? I had the same error. Just play the game in Window mode (stretch the window to fullscreen) and you should have no more errors.

Also, specific info about what shows up on the BSOD would help.
Do this:
Right click "My Computer"
Go to "Properties"
Go to the "Advanced" tab
Go to "Settings" under "Startup and Recovery"
Under "System Failure" make sure that "Automatically Restart" is UNCHECKED. Then, just play until it happens again, and write down what it says. Then post it here.
