Hey!

Well i love using my ranger in Aspenwood. Basic defend the fort scenario, and as a ranger i can fulfill SO SO many roles. And honestly, i fight on both sides quite often both luxon and kurzick. So i just though i would share my favorite ranger build for FA... AND leave this thread open for you all to share YOURS!!

YES, yes i do realize there is a ranger builds compendium, but why not have one specific for FA? (or Jade Quarry, but who plays there?)

Ranger/Anything
Annoyance Build

Marksmanship 14 (10+1+3)
Wilderness Survival 12 (11+1)
Expertise 11 (10+1)

Punishing Shot (e)
Savage Shot
Distracting Shot
Apply Poison
Dodge/Zojun's Haste
Whirling Defense
Troll Ungent
Pin Down

Attributes are as such to get a descent Poison length and a good amount of regen on Troll as it is the only self heal. Expertise is high as it is this builds only energy management and this build has a few 10 en skills, so Expertise at a high level like this is essential.

I use a +33% poison bow. Yup. Triple interrupts + Poison + Cripping = Major fun! You can shut down SO many builds, and have descent defense vs phys dmg. Weaknesses are vs stance users and spikers. Some degen can be countered but degen focus will pwn ya. And YES, this build destroys those annoying touch rangers. Spamm interrupts to stop their self healing/life stealing, poison + cripple, then keep distance and keep shooting/interrupting, they dye rather fast. If they use a stance, then run, lol

Ya, this build is quite basic, but is SO fun. Does great dmg, utility and shutdown is quite good. Defense, mebe i can work in something else to counter heavy degen, but i usually just stay back a bit and shutdown key targets. So then...

Wahts YOUR favorite FA ranger build?

This is my favorite build for FA. I get a kick out of it. It does good damage, it's annoying, and above all FUN!

It's a Beast Master build...

Beast Mastery: 16 (12+1+3)
Expertise: 10 (9+1)
Wilderness Survival: 10 (9+1)

Troll Unguent
Call of Haste/Run as One
Feral Lunge
Poisonous Bite
Enraged Lunge
Whirling Defense
Comfort Animal
Charm Animal

I usually take Run as One if I know I'll be focusing on amber running, otherwise it's Call of Haste for additional damage.

The attributes are set for high pet damage, good regen from Troll Unguent and a longer duration for Whirling Defense (reason for 10 rather than 9 for Expertise). Troll to counter degens. Troll and Whirling to defend against physical.

The gates can be a problem in trapping the pet. On the Kurzick side you can use the gate locks or the teleporters, but on the Luxon side, you just have to wait until the gate is breached to get your pet (weapon) back.

Weapon can be anything, just something range to send your pet in. I tend to use a staff or a flatbow.

I rarely have energy problems, unless I have to spam Comfort Animal to heal my pet. Sometimes it's just cheaper to let it die and then rez it with 61% health.

It can easily take mines, command posts and kill turtles. It can also apply a lot of pressure on a Luxon Monk that's protecting a turtle.

Most people tend to ignore the pet, thinking it'll just nibble at their heels, but once they're bleeding, poisoned and having large chunks taken out of them, they panic and run... but the pet can't be reasoned with and it doesn't let go.

Weakness is in Troll being easily interrupted, heavy degen, prolonged physical attacks due to Whirling's long cooldown (I've not tried Distortion), switching targets (the pet sometimes just does its own thing), and pet being trapped or body blocked.

Overall, it's just fun to watch people trying to run away as your pet is giving chase.

I've been using this recently on the luxon side:

Expertise 12+1+1
Wilderness 12+1 (I haven't thought through the points so these are probablly wrong breakpoints, they were just the armour I had)

Trapper's Focus {E}
Barbed Trap
Flame Trap
Dust Trap
Healing Spring
Troll Unguent
Whirling Defense
Throw Dirt/Lightning Reflexes

Its fun, trappers work quite well in there - preset traps on the teleport spawn points and doors, and you can take on a few things at a time with Spring + Unguent + stances ^^

Skuld..I love your setup but found Healing Spring not as effective in FA as I had hoped. I did a little adjustment and replaced Healing Spring with Distracting Shot and used this to disrupt MM, Monks and Spikers. Savage shot also works well in place of Distracting shot. Its rather funny to sit near the teleport spawn points , watch them get snared in the traps then interrupt them as they try to heal or counter you. If you get a good damage dealer or nuker to team up at the spawn point with you..you can kill them over and over again before they even have the chance to get a good shot back off at you

A modified cripshot build works wonders on either side. You can easily gank the turltes or the Amber runners.

I like running an oath trapper in FA.

Very fun.

I like the punshot build when I'm on the kurzik side. But when I go luxon I wanna have a lot of fire power with a very good defense.

Luxon build:

Dual shot
Kindle
Poison arrow
Savage/distracting
Whirling Defense
Throw Dirt
Troll Unguent
Dryer's Defense

Of course I go with 16 WS. I think the build is kinda obvious.

I generally use a composite bow (or even a hornbow when the target is not kitting and dodging my arrows) and a vamp short bow (most of the time accuracy over range when you go luxon).

for any ranger build and the prevalence of bonders I say that debilitating shot should at least be a strong consideration for a fa skillbar.

Oh those poor bonding monks!! LOL Erm... how many runes does that use

Poor bonding monks? Distracting Shot alone makes for poor bonding monks... stuff the rest of the build.
