Well Nightfall is certainly pretty (at least, the first few areas are). I have to say that it seems to be getting more complicated with each chapter release, and I am not quite sure that is what I want for casual gameplay. I have never been interested in any form of PvP and I feel that the Hero's have been introduced to make up for declining numbers in both PvP and PvE areas. I am not sure that I can summon enough interest to deal with equipping both Hero's and myself with armour, skills, runes etc. Too much like hard work!

As usual with these events, there seemed to be a lot of people wandering around totally lost, with no idea what to do.

Mmmmmm... I will give it another go on Sunday if I have time and see if it grows on me.

Loving everything, from the new dances to the theme of anctient egypt, makes me feel alot more comfortable playing in environments with a lot of open spaces, rich golden colours and nice scenery with bushland and rivers as opposed to enclosed, dark places of Canthan mainland.

Tried it for about ten minutes but...
I think i skip this event and just wait for retail. Then i'm goin to do what no one does, and make my first ranger. With all those Paragons and Derwishes, some ranger lure skill will be in demand.

Anet.. please hear me out.. please give the male Dervish the male monk emotes and not the male ranger emotes.. again.. how many classes can share the same emote?

Thank you, Quid.

:P

Seriously though I was so dissapointed when I saw they had the ranger emotes again.

Initially I liked the whole African feel, but yeah as someone said its a bit like Factions. I'm getting sick of doing mini quests tbh. A chapter with mainly missions and very few quests would be fantastic. Yeah may skip preview for the retail version, a bit over-quested out.

I love the new skills for existing professions, and I love a new continent to play on, but there was no need for new professions. Out of the 50 districts there are thousands of Ps and Ds. And I saw 1 ranger. This is what NF will be like, and it's stupid. They had to make a group composed of entirely Paragons and Dervishes balanced, so they are makeshift monks, warriors, rangers, etc.

The new professions aren't needed, they try to take on roles of older professions but do it slightly differently. It sucks.

I hope next chapter no new professions, only new skills and areas.

I feel the same way about professions - there is no need for more. I'm fine at 8, or possibly 10. I don't intend to play either P or D, and honestly don't want to see any more professions.

Nightfall is very pretty. Heroes sound like too much micromanagement for my taste.

Dont be daft. Of course on the perview all you will see will be Para's and Derv's but as soon as the full game comes out all and sundry will be transferring their existing characters across to play. Sure there may be a few more Para's and Derv's at the start, but its the same as Factions, and it'll always be the same when a new character is introduced.

And the game is not a Role Playing Game. You CAN role play if you like but most dont.

After creating a Paragon in the World Preview event, the abilities are appealing but its physical features are really putting me off. It seems that I’ve just created a ‘gay’ character. With that skirt and ‘cute’ haircut (very woman like in some styles) it just looks way too feminine...

Well, I had made a thread on the Riverside forum about how I'll be sitting it out... but the thread disappeared (maybe due to server load today).

Anyway... I think that my experience with the last preview event made me feel that some things are best left for release. I just wasn't surprised enough with Factions when it was released. This was my own fault because I explored and unlocked so much of the content during the preview event.

I think that I'll definitely build a Dervish in the next chapter, but I don't want to bother with it until I really can build the character. All the effor this weekend will be for nothing aside from unlocks, and that's not enough overcome my reservations about seeing too much too soon.

...deep within the sylvan splendor...

Order of the Migrating Coconuts [ALBA]

Well, except for my being one of only three necros I saw anywhere (ADORE the new necro armor!!!!!!), I'd say first impressions were that Nightfall is okay. Not great, although it is certainly beautifully rendered, but overall only okay so far.

To be fair, I'll play a bit longer but here's a few things I did or didn't care for:

1. Must be lvl 5 before you can even *think* about dual-class. Good in my opinion.

2. Timed (gods, not again!) mission -- LOSE THEM. Granted the first one is micro-mini in scope, but if you're brand new to GW and have no idea how to work skillbars, etc. then timed is just stupid. I didn't realize it was timed and explored a bit, only to find that 6 minutes was barely 'passing' grade.

3. Mini-quests for different merchants/traders: well, it keeps it more interesting than just killing for the sake of killing. And it helps both with leveling and in the purse, so *shrugs*.

4. Henches: Who needs a warrior when you've got a Dervish now? The "Holy hench" kicked serious ass, much better than Koss (who needs a haircut or something...)

Well, I only had about 10 minutes to play around with this this morning because of the build delay so I don't have a lot of input yet. However, I'm not pleased with the female Paragon's hair styles. I know, picky, but I'm a girl after all! The faces are kinda creepy too. What's up with the albino eyes and white lipstick? That face looks like it belongs on a necro, not a paragon.

I don't like it ..

Heroes aren't needed, too much micro-management. I want to focus on my character, not Koss with his afro. I don't like the new classes. I hope when you get off starter island it gets better, because right now all I can think while playing it is how I'd rather be doing something else. Don't give me any lame "so don't play it" reply, I'm allowed to dislike something.

Also how come Koss has access to all the skills I've unlocked? I made him massively overpowered for starter island.

Oh my, how pretty is he. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks the Paragons need a makeover.

I'm loving the Heroes addition. GW is starting to feel like a real CRPG in an online world, instead of just a hack 'n slasher with PvP. For those who really love PvE, this chapter is the one we've been waiting for.

The environment is ok. I think I liked Factions and Prophecies a bit more. However, it is still good.

Dervish: Wow, I didnt like it that much at the PvP event. now, i do. It looks cool, it is strong, and just plain fun.

Paragon: Also good. I think i ike it more than the Dervish.

Heros: Good. i Like how I can send them into battle, so the monsters will attack it, so i am free to attack monsters without me attacking them. in otherwards, bait . I do wish i could cammand him to run ahead and attack certain creatures, for some monsters wont attack you unless you attack them.

First mission: ok, but a bit to easy. then again, it gives newbies a good sense of the mission part of the game.

Bonus items: So far i like em. they look cool and are pretty good, especially for the Dervish.

At the moment I like the ability that you can define skills and attributes for heroes. Too much work to control their skill usage in real-time though. Maybe if you can make skill activation sequence templates, it would be more effective and still pretty automated.

Areas are so far pretty and quite open which I like a lot. Still a bit clumsy to use Paragon skills effectively but training will help.

I agree. Or we should be able to plan a battle in advance. For example, you are at point A. you see monsters at point B. You can plan for ex. Koss to attack Monster A, and Hero B to attack Monster B, then they switch, while Hero healer 1 heals you soly, and healer hero 2 heals the 2 other heros. Then you click submit, and the battle begins. It gives it more of an strategy game kind of feel, and I think it would be more effective than doing this live, while having to manage yourself too.

Yes, but the male Paragon is scantily clad. :P I don't know if ANet realized they were finally catering to their female players. I might have to make a male Paragon for fun (especially for that hysterical "Beat It" dance. LOL

I haven't been home yet to try it out! I'm counting down until I leave work so I can glue myself to the computer chair.

As far as heroes they are only micromanagement if you choose to let them be. Otherwise you just leave them until theres a specific skill you want them to have. Outside cities, you don't have to mess with with them at all and they will function as normal henchies. But the fact you can have your own personal wamo is just <3. Other levels of customization are nice aswell if you don't really want to deal with micromanagement, just throw a hard-rez onto one of the free slots for when the rez sig is used up for a little bit of an extra rez, and then you can save yourself from having to bring one.

I like it though, but one thing I've heard from other people is about the spears.. The paragon itself is nice I just don't really like the spear thing for some reason. Didn't play the dervish but my friend who was said they were loving it.

So far so good. Liking the quests and and structure. My Koss is a W/N with bleeding and Virulence. Watch those monsters drop

The flags may be fun, but you easily forget where you've put them, then when you remember the henchies take the shortest route to the new one, even if it's right through a mob.

Loving the new armors, faces and weapons.

Party leader cannot control fully the party formation

This has really stood out to me. When you start a party, you can not control it fully - invite someone, if they decide to add their Hero(es) they are free to do so and you can't stop them. Nor can you remove the Hero. You can't even set the skills of their Hero or give instructions to it. Not only does it take up party slot(s) but the only recourse you have is to boot the player if they don't remove their Hero(es)

That needs to be changed for certain.

I like the rest of it so far, but as I feared there would be problems because of this new Hero system... sigh. I thought it was supposed to be encouraging teamplay among human players, not encouraging bot-fests and being attached to AI bleh.

But if it takes 175 just to get to Lieutenant; than Sunspear Master must take some super huge amount....

The stupid starting problems aside, i love Nightfall. It has the GW Feeling again, that certain feeling that was lost with Factions. I like the new atmosphere and the new quests. They most certainly are more and better worked out than the Fed-EX Quests in Faction.
The music is okay but once again lacks a certain epic feeling that other composers have.

All in all, Nightfall will be a safe buy. And after Factions, this is very much the 8.th World Miracle.

a: Why shouldn't he be allowed to level up his hero..?

b: If your partymate isn't going to listen to you before leaving the outpost, what makes you think he's going to listen in the mission? Boot.

Not sure about the heroes thing, seems unnecessary to me. By doing that I feel they are losing even more the fact that your in a world with other people. Felt a bit too much like singleplayer to me. Still love the environment, very pretty. Paragons are too puffy but I made one anyway. Quite fun. Will all be better once in full retail release me thinks. But OMG, I had time to level my assassin to 20 in the time it took for Anet to sort things out!
