Heroes, let us use ours?
Draxanoth
I haven't played the preview that far in, but I got to thinking.... when the actual nightfall release comes around, why not let us use OUR heroes? I could carve a very large path of death with 4 of my own characters. Could take some nice group screenies too. Gear is already there, skills, etc. Would be a nice addition.
Mournblade
I was about to say that would be a bit too overpowering, but if you can give your Hero's upgraded armor and weapons anyway, it's all the same I guess. :P

You do not need to buy new armor. thier armor upgrades itself depnding on your heros level. Only thing you'll have to buy is thier runes, and thier weapons. which you could usually just find on the ground outside.

Just get some collecter stuff for the heros it's cheap and effective

I'm wondering... are you limited to only one of each class in your hero group or can you have something like 3 blood spikers as your heroes?
Either way, I like all my characters and I know them well. It would be fun to have four of them playing at once.

I'd like to use my heroes too. All they would have to do is use whatever armor skin you have on but reset the stats to whatever normal hero stats are.

Sounds nice at first, but think about what you're asking for a moment. Right now, I think the heroes they've provided are better because we don't have to buy armor for them. It upgrades automatically, but we can still use runes to customize it. And as far as skills and attributes go, they're more or less the same as any other of our other normal characters, since the skills they use are ones we've unlocked. If we could use our own characters as "heroes" there'd be the huge disadvantage of actually having to craft armor for them and the only real advantages would be that we'd get to name them and choose their appearances.
It's not a bad idea, though, and I wouldn't mind seeing it at some point for one major reason: If we could use our own characters as heroes, it'd allow us to level up multiple PvE chars at once without having to play through the story campaign multiple times which would be really, really nice.

Actually, I think once it's released, you'll be able to buy armor for your hero. Taken from GWs.com

Heroes have skills, attributes, weapons, and armor just like players do. You can use the Skills and Attributes panel to select their skills and attributes, and the Inventory panel to select their equipment. (During this preview event, you cannot yet customize your Heroes' armor.) |

They say you'll be able to customize it, not buy it. It's probably referring to runes. Can you not yet add runes to their armor? I haven't tried. Read the article on the official site about how the hero system works. It says very clearly that their armor upgrades as they level. You don't buy it.

one VERY obvious reason for not allowing this.
if you could use your own characters, they'd advance with you and gain exp with you, the whole 9 yards...it would allow people to run and powerlevel themselves, and not only that, but 4 characters at a time.

Interesting, but surely impossible.

I'm totaly for this. Even if they have to leach your drops and they have to be level 20.
Helps us RPers out.

The Heroes are there for story purposes as well, though. Like party members in a console turned based RPG, playing a lot like games like Tales of Symphonia. Each character having to have its own personality.

For people who don't like this idea, how about limiting this option to pvp heros vs heros only?? It'll be better since you can't just target human player because you can't tell which is human controlled and which isn't.

One of the biggest draws to the Hero idea to me is searching for all the available hero's in NF. Not even considering the problems that would arrise with abuse and general "it's not fair" complaints...

IF AND ONLY IF:
-They just took heros and made it look like your other character, with name and appearance but you would have the items and skills that your real character had.
-Only the character you are actually really playing can progress through the game, complete quests, move to new areas, and gain experience. In effect making the other you's just like henchmen (when you get to a place where there is level 20 hench)
then i would sign this. but this is beyond nightfall being that the storyline is already setup. Perhaps in the next campaign, instead of having henchmen (unless you have no other characters), your other characters would show up near exits. And you can control them just like you can heros.

it's a nice idea solely for the purpose of being in a group and not having 2 koss dudes running around. i personally would find that to be incredibly limiting (or expensive) as i have unlocked every skill in the pre-nightfall game. i don't have all the secondary skills on my characters.
frankly, the heroes we have are awesome. just goes to show that the ai is well-made, anet just doesn't know how to put together a toolbar for their hench. i've only gotten koss and the grody monk but they're out of control (and frankly the grody monk does a great job managing his energy as a bonder/boon prot).
plus i wouldn't trade koss' awesome hair for the world.

I never said anything about loot, XP, etc. Your heroes already get all your unlocked skills, gear you give them, and armor that scales. The only complication is they level up. A photocopy hero of your own chars, I see no harm. Even if you could just bring them as they are once you reach level 20 I'd be happy. Find solutions to the hiccups, don't scrap the whole project because of one small detail.

Won't happen.
Could never work, there would be too limitations to make it fun and enjoyable.
The benefits of having all your chars in a party would get nerfed after release, farming, powerlvling.
Wouldn't work
Anet won't do it.
On the flip side, I'd like to bring my Heros with my Character to other campaigns, so they could help me out on any Mission that I would need them in.
