I agree. :P
I'm quite satisfied with Nightfall so far. Having completed 100% of the Island I'm giving it thumbs up. Can't wait to see the mainland!

Too early to say really. All we've seen is the newb island and skill lists.
If I had to choose on what I've seen so far, I'd take prophecies. I don't like this locked door rumor buzzing all over the place. Forced farming to advance quests can be annoying as well. More content in the first too.
Anet is learning from its mistakes where PvE is concerned. Much better voice acting this time around, improvments in the graphics (if not the faces; thats a matter of opinion), the plot of the story appears much improved, etc. UI is unwieldy but much improved over what was there before.
I'm glad to see that the game can adapt and remain hearty. I like the new proffesions and hope they'll breathe new life into Arenas as Rit and (to an extent) sin did. On a whole, I think Nightfall will be a very nice expansion on the original campaign.

I'm pretty happy with Nightfall overall so far. I love the hench controls, I *always* have my monks controls out in case I need an emergency heal. It's great
I'm trying to skip the story but get used to the gameplay, I want to save the story for later. But, the graphics are better, and I think the gameplay is more creative. I have done no farming, and getting my titles isn't a challenge at all, just make sure you always talk to the guards near the shrines.
One thing though:
I HATE the dervish hero. the skills she starts with are *painful* as in, inefficient. She made beating Diggings a pain. I just got a friend to play as his dervish and take his actually useful dercish hero.
Also, I think that the PvP unlock packs are going to get a LOT more popular seeing as how the heroes skill sets work.

Ha ha, I've been irritated this whole time that the warrior hero has quite a few elites (in fact, all the ones I like to use) and the Monk hero - who is obviously a healer - only had smiting elites. I can not stand playing a healer so I never capped any healing elites, or even bothered to unlock any healing skills outside the ones I got through quests.
I wonder if it will stay this way. Nothing like a level 2 warrior with a full line of elites. I suspect that somthing else will be done, but I'm fine with it the way it is. The newb isle goes by pretty quickly and after that it doesn't really matter.
For those of us who will not purcahse skills it also changes the way we view unlocks. I never cared one way about them before, I do not PvP. This makes unlocks interesting/useful for PvE also. If this stays I would like rune and modifier unlocks to work similar also, but I suppose the way it works now is OK though.

I know you'll hate me for it, but as far as phrophcies is concerned i found it boring. I got into it with my rit and have gotten about to teh infusion quests.
Its alot of running and killing monsters. not that thats bad its just... prophices doesnt really have the feel i liek in factions. I still like running around in nub isle helping peopel do quests for money,

I haven't experienced much of Nightfall at all, but I what I see so far better than Factions. Prophecies is still my favorite, but I need to see much more of Nightfall's gameplay to draw better conclusions.
Reiden Argrock
I think it's A-net has outdone themselves. I loved prophecies, enjoyed factions for the first few weeks alot, then gotta kind of bored but still like parts of it. Nightfall is great so far, and it's only the starter island. At times I even forget what lvl I am because of how engrossing the game is. Specially like the bog. Puts magumma jungle to shame.. oh to shame
KANE OG
Conquers Cantha.. yes. Prophecies? No freakin way.
Knightsaber Sith
Well it's only common sense that the newest campaign would have the best features such as the skill templates and the new hero system. But on the basis of what we know of the plot line; I'd have to say Prophecies is the winner.

All of the what I've posted above should be invalid in your decision to choose NF over Factions or Prophecies. It's a new game; Anet has to add new features or the gameplay would be stale. Prophecies is still my favorite after this weekend. But I liked Factions for the fast leveling, but that's just me..

Nightfall completely dominates Factions so far. And that is the newb island alone. I also believe Nightfall edges out Prophecies so far, right down to the storyline. Though there is nothing like pre sear Tyria.
I will have to see more to make a permanent decision on Chapter 1 vs Chapter 3. But its looking very promising.

2) Cantha + Tyria both had their own original skills.
3) They also both had their own storyline.
4) New.
5) New.
6) Falls in with new storyline, but either way, both chapters had their own villains.
7) As far as monster AI and graphics go, all the chapters were made using the same engine.
8) Prophecies has the core professions, and Factions had 2 new professions as well.
9) Prophecies as for challenges introduced HA, GvG, Arenas. Faction introduced challenge missions, competitive missions, and AB. As for Cantha, new challenges = ..Puzzle/Traps in missions?
So basically, they all had their typical and generic new chapter stuff, and original stuff too.
All in all, I do think Nightfall is shaping up well. Better than Factions- probably, as Factions, although ok, was in the bigger picture more of a disaster. Better than Prophecies- much too soon to tell from the preview.

Nightfall is up there so far with prophesis. it OWNS factions like no other.
I like it Also after completing N()()B island.

Factions left a lot to be desired, so comparing it to an actual good game is like comparing icecream to crap. :x Yes, factions was terrible I'm sorry it really was.
But Nightfall looks very nice from what I see. The one thing thats bothering me now is just that we now have to talk to people to do the missions, but hey its better then having locked doors.

So far the Nightfall story line puts both Factions and Prophecies to shame. It not even close. It is coherant, the characters actually have personalities and the voice acting doesn't make you laugh out loud (give me a T, give me an O...). Prophecies had too many loose ends story wise and drove me nuts. Factions story was too simplistic and predictable/boring. Nightfall has an epic quality to it so far that is simply non-existant in the other two.
Two complaints though...
1) Heroes need a way for you to program how they use their skills, not just what skills they have. It is simply impossible to manage 4 hereos in battle on the fly. I set up Acolyte Jin to be a barrage/judges insight ranger. In battle, however, she kept casting judges insight on ME rather then herself, despite the fact that I had heart of holy flame going at all times. Annnoying to no ends.
2) Koss is clearly Mr. T. For gods sake give him a mohawk and have him begin every phrase with 'I piddy da foo".

I agree with most posters here, factions was really terrible and should not be compared at all to GWN and GWP. Hopefully all future expansions will be of equal or even better quality of Nighfall.
Safer Saviour
Factions wasn't that bad, it was flawed sure but I actually like some of the new features/places and love a lot of the armour there. In truth, Nightfall seems to have only improved the voice acing, music and heroes. It still has all the bad things about Factions, like locked doors and having to buy all your skills for every character, and I hope they fix that before release.

A point of the hero screens means that people might start to realise that henchies have energy problems too Maybe give THEM a chance to regen or something?

Way way too early to make an educated determination on this issue. Beginner's island is never where I make my conclusions on how the gameplay is, and regardless of new flashy things, like Hero AI, skill templates, what have you, my main concern is and will always be gameplay. So no determination as of yet.
Xenrath
I'm going to wait and see. The starter island is not enough to say if the whole game will be better. Mind you, Factions wasn't all that great anyway.
I like so far it somehow feels bigger and more open than Factions. Will it match up to Prophecies though? Doubtful, that one was a classic imho and had more years work on it.
I personally don't like how EVERYONE and their grandmother is in a team of henchies and heroes. Reading many of the posts here I guess I'm in a minority when I play online multiplayer games for the purpose of teamplay with other players. If it ends up like this in the whole game and months later everyone is still in hench/AI teams, I fear that will be the end of GW for me. The multiplayer aspect is what I play online games for. AI/bots can be found plenty in singleplayer offline games.

Prophecies will always be the best because it was the first game and it had the most content and the best "free style" gameplay where you aren't forced to do anything, but you can do everything. GWP map being huge is a bonus, its like both cantha and NF mixed + a little bit more topping. The huge map allows for some exploration and the non linear gameplay of you not having to force your way through the entire game, I wish Anet would realize that, I bet they already do, but because of the 6 months cycle, shorter games will have to last longer, probly why the locked doors w/ or w/o any barriers are there. Also, prophecies lasted a whole year and kept more people ingame longer than Factions and will probly be able to claim the same when NF comes out.
Ithil Tior
I'm having more fun on the Nightfall starter island than I had in the entire Factions campaign.
Pessimistic Daydream
First thing first.. I agree that NF > Factions... I really didn't like factions at all. To me factions was rushing you constantly.. from the super fast leveling (which kept me from making a char there that made it past level 10 because I hated the starter island) to the One-way-only game play... I just didn't like it. And honestly, yeah I had more fun playing the beginner island of Nightfall than I did the entire game of Factions.
That being said, I think people are grouping with hench and heros this weekend to test them, see how they work, get a feel for how well the AI was upgraded and what the limits on the heros are and such. I also think that once the game comes out, there will be people who just do that, group with heros and hench and GO GO GO! But there will also be people who would rather group with other people to do things, at least the first couple times around.
As far as NF > Proph... I dunno, I do like the feel of Nightfall better so far, but like people have said that -was- just the starter island... and though I loved it and it made me decide that I am getting Nightfall for sure when I was doubting it... I'm still reserving judgement on the overall game of Nightfall until I play through it once or four times

heres a quick Difference betwen henches, heroes and Players.
Henches are still Mindless and they follow orders this time. But that doesnt mean that they will Replace Human Players that Can plan and speak and even Help allot more.
Heroes Cant Use all skills properly but they are good for support. Human players will allways be better cause Heroes or henches cant Help you with a Very hard Elite mission or challange.
See? Humans have a brain and everything else is a freaking Program

prophecies was a great game which was fun to play and you could go through as fast or as slow as you liked, it was entirely up to you
and yes i am one of those people who after making my 4th/5th/6th character i pretty much skipped the first missions til the desert because the choice was there to do so
even in nightfall you have to earn rank before certain quests open so the freedom isnt there and the less said about factions the better.

1 They don't think they know everything
2 They don't go "pull" while your monks have no energy at all (And if they try you can tell them to get back and they actually obey!).
3 They play most builds quite well, or most builds I set them up with. (Note: I chose to play a monk, but I did smite for a bit to test the monk heros out) My only complaint about any of the Heros skill use choices is that I had the monk smiting with Sig of Judgement and Sig of Rage, but they would sometimes just not use them when they could.
4 If you have to AFK for a couple mins, they don't freak out and get mad.
5 YOU can choose their builds
And 6 Best of all... if you mess up, they promise not to call you a noob! <3
I'm not going to be playing with purely heros and hench, but if I find something like Nahpui (had an EVIL time with that mission on my ranger) in Nightfall.. you can bet after the first PUG messes it up, I'll go straight for the Heros and fill the rest with hench.
Sheriff
Even though Nightfall is looking really good, judging from the size of the world it will be once again a smaller experience than GWP.
Also, GWN is linear again, Factions style. I don't want to have to do n00b island with all my chars. Where's the option? Nowhere. You just can't be "run" out of the island
In terms of linearity, sorry but I still haven't seen any advantage of GWN over GWF, and GWP is still miles, leagues ahead

Random Nonsense
Just when I quit the game EVERYONE is saying NF is awesome? Looks like Factions sucked so much they had to make their next expansion "awesome" to get their old players to come back.

Yes, let's all form our opinions of Nightfall based on a beta preview weekend before the game actually comes out.
