weapon skin value after nightfall release
Narutoscryed
I have been hearing about the new ability in nightfall to salvage your base weapon mod. I dont pay much attention to nightfall so im not sure if this is true. but i would like to discuss some cool things that may come about from this new feature.
First and formost is what all the other threads are talking about.. and that it that having the mods be salvagable will ruin the economy.
This may be true to an extent. but anet may choose to play an interesting card with this new feature.
what if they chose to make the mods that came with the weapons MEGARARE
so having a 15^50 mod is a 50-80k item right away.
Now that has been stated before.. but what i am thinking is this.
rare common skins may become the new base for judging price.
maybee a 6-20 tribal or a prophecies sickle will be modded with a 15^50.. what kinda prices are we lookin at there?
and a nice dwarven or mursatt hammer.. or a nice dwarven axe. or a sweet dead bow. any of the rare skins..
will the rare skin market explode? or will the economy simple come crashing down around us all.
I feel that once this feature takes place.. crystaline will not be the king of the mountain anymore. as many more people will be searching for that nice white req 8 6-28 sickle or tribal.
I made this thread because unlike the other threads. i want to know what your opinion is on the skins that may benifit from these new features.
i have heard enough about mod value.. and now i would like to know skin value.
There is a thread on this section. but i belive it is best to seperate this from that thread. for this thread is a prediction thread bassed off skin value of items that are modded with the salvaged mods... and i feel that all this is pretty cool to discuss to see if we cant predict some kinda a cool outcome.

Personally, I don't really care if uberly expensive items get cheaper. Hell, right now, you can buy a high req 15^50 weapon and it'll be dirt cheap, and on a warrior, req means very little since you rarely, if ever, have a weapon mastery below 13. If anything moves this game away from the stupidity of people paying 60-70 thousand gold for a difference of 1% on a weapon or mod, I can only see as being good.
Nightsear
This will make it much easier for me, and others like me, to find the necessary modifers I want.

GW is set on making things very easy to obtain. At the same time they are destroying their econemy.
Seems kind of boring when everything is handed to you on a silver platter from the start. Just my opinion. I don't really mind this change.

So... we should stack on high req. 15>50's while they're cheap now?
Slabby
Everyone will be buying purple crystallines now just to give them a 15%^50 mod later on. Kinda lame imo...

To make golds less valuable:
- pvp mod unlock
- greens
- increased stats + higher drops rate
- even more greens from almost every boss in F
- chosing mods in NF

Why does no one ever mention collector weapons? as it is..you can get 15^50 collector weapons without a fancy skin for an hour of farming collector materials. I personally love collector weapons. I can mod them however I want and usually they are better than most of the gold crap I see people trying to sell for outrageous prices. I figure if someone wants some fancy skin just to show off well that's their business if they want to pay 100k+10 ectos for it. lol I personally am not that vain and the good ole max damage 15^50 collectors with mods suit me just fine.
As far as the economy...who cares. Items and loot is not the basis of GW anyway. You can go through the entire game without ever buying a weapon from another player and it isn't going affect your character's proficiency even a little. This game is, after all, about skill..not uber phat lewts. Too many people try to make GW like EQ or WoW or something as far the weapon economy and I"ve always found it very silly. What annoys me..is when a new person comes in..sees all this stuff for sale in LA or Kaineng..and thinks their character can't be good unless they have it. Don't fall for the scams or buy into the hype. YOu dont need 500k in gold to be good in GW and you certainly don't need a godly crystaline sword.

The rare skinned market would be destroyed. All items worth more than the current price of a 15>50 inscription would gradually fall in price. Items would be worth what it costs to buy the skin and the inscription. So a Gold Crystalline Sword for example say bought for 100k and having a 15>50 inscription added to it worth 100k would make it worth 200k and not 100k + 1750 Ectos. However, the price of Gold Crystalline Swords could rocket as they can all become 15>50 and would be great demand even for the worst ones.
The most valuable item based on the skin alone would be imo a very very close to max dmg Sickle or Tribal Axe. A near max one I could see running into the hundreds of thousands of platinum because once modded with say 15>50 it would be very close to perfect. A max dmg one however, would not be found as the areas they drop in cannot drop max dmg weapons. They drop up to and including Sanctum Cay and no max dmg weapon to my knowledge has ever been found there.
Rubbish Crystalline Swords, Dwarvens and Serpent Axes could however rocket in price as all Purple and Gold ones could be very useful to someone wanting to add perfect inscriptions.
It may be worth obtaining a few low req rubbish Gold Crystalline Sword, Dwarvens and Serpent Axes as they could go up in price with the high demand for them. If inscriptions can be obtained from any gold item then buying tons of cheap perfect inherent mod items might be worth while as if you can get the 15>50 mods out of them when Nightfall is first released you could make alot of gold.
Noone knows for sure what the inscriptions can be used on or how they can be used. Maybe once an inscription is added to an item it becomes red. People would still want gold items as they are harder to obtain and more valuable than red ones. Would be like fully customizable green items but instead they are red.
Dante the Warlord
I actually don't the weapon values of nightfall weapons will be as good as factions....everyone knows that azns make the coolest looking swords :P... I think this will be where spellcasters have much more fun and they will probably get cooler skins.

ANET's probable goal in creating inscription-mods is to make obtaining optimum gear easier for all players while removing the incentive to exploit Ebay. Adding any text differentiation to inscription-modified items would only undermine this objective.

QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY
how many posts have you seen on this forum alone since GW came out sighing about the perfect mod that turned into junk?
how many posts have you seen here alone saying i got the crap mod instead of the good one?
from what i have seen at least 5 top mods get away for every one successfully salvaged.
since we can now choose which mod we salvage it seems that Anet is effectively increasing the drop rate of top mods by at least 3-5 times which will have an effect on their value.
think superior absorb runes as an example of what happens when the supply increases dramatically.
and dont forget all those that are not perfect but miss it by 1 % or 1 point.
a lot of people will be willing to take those while waiting a bit for that perfect mod/inscription to drop in price

every post is speculation. how do u people know it wont cost 10-50k just for the salvage? how do u know we wont have to do some really long hard mish/quest to get the ability to do it? noone knows these things for certain and to pre-emptive whine about it is ridiculous. i think these are perfect ideas to implement. not everyone in this game are hard - core farmers and can purchase things they like. not everyone ebays/cheats/bots. |

GW's armor, weapons, and salvaging systems have also been tweaked in some important ways. "Inscriptions" will take the place of inherent bonus modifiers for weapons and can be transferred between most weapons or sold for quick cash. The armor system will be simplified to allow you to replace individual components (say, a breastplate) instead of purchasing a new set. Nightfall will also help crafters by allowing them to select which component they would like to salvage from a weapon, with the extra bonus of not having the rest of the weapon disintegrate after the process is complete. |
SparhawkJC
Something that might be interesting. You can craft +15>50, +5 Energy, etc. weapons and crafters from various weaponsmiths throughout Guild Wars. If you choose to add mods to said weapons you're able to salvage them later if you find something better. So does this mean that we'll be able to salvage the damage mod too?

Thanks for starting the 34th thread on this!
Simply put, we don't know what the change will be. If the change is what we expect it will be, in short:
1. Unless they make previous weapon inherent modifiers unsalvagable (which I believe is highly unlikely), the price for inherent modifiers will NOT be very high. There are simply too many 15>50 weapons out there, even if drops of 15>50 weapons are completely nerfed.
2. White and blue weapons will NOT see their values skyrocket. It is simply too easy to go out and get a rare skinned item (except for a rare few) by exploring.
3. Taking expensive weapons almost completely out of the game (due to #1 and #2 above) will likely make the value of gold drop significantly (especially since key purchases will fall due to the lack of a risk-reward of buying the keys). I would expect that this would make rare materials such as ectos and shards skyrocket, as players with excess cash run out of items to invest in.
I think that is the goal of A-Net, as described above. Make gold relatively worthless = gold is only used for skills/armor = no reason to buy gold on eBay = goodbye botters.
It's a shame, because I think accumulating rare items was a goal for many hardcore PvE'ers as a reward for some of the adventuring exploits...but I can see why A-Net would do this for the "casual" gamer.

I win either way and have given up caring. If it doesnt happen I wont lose gold. If it does happen and applies to all gold items I can make hundreds and hundreds of ecto salvaging my crappy unconditional hammer to make a 14% Crystalline or something.

Hm , I can't really understand why Anet would want to do this to the value of gold . I mean sure no more bots , ebay and etc but I figure ALOT of people will loose interest. What's left to work for after beating the game? You have nothing left to work towards . Honestly I beat Prophecies and Factions , what did I do after that? Just farm to work on getting some things I wanted and it took me a while thus keeping me interested in GW . That's all I do now I guess until Nightfall comes out , just work towards items and armor i'd like to obtain . If everything is going to become , not to say for sure it is but likely to become easy to get I can't see my interest lasting that long in GW anymore..
It's no fun seeing people run around with the same stuff as you and to add to that there will be x10 more people in your groups running around with the same stuff as you .
Sure theres pvp and getting your titles and stuff like that but I don't think its enough in my opinion .

I love how people say this will be the end of the game, there will be no one to play with. Other than 3-4 man farming groups in some areas (and exception of the 12 man deep / warren, which is almost ALWAYS empty accept a few times during the day in international ----open this to all already ANET-----), what exactly are we losing? People who weren't contributing to playing the game with others anyway. If I don't have to run around trying to get that perfect Zodiac Shield cause I can MOD one, then you know what? I'm more likely to just log on and help someone out on a misssion, etc., and PLAY THE GAME for true enjoyment.
Those of you who think this is a bad thing, don't let the door hit ya on the way out cause you're wasting space and spamming up trade channels like maniacs being pests anyway (the only time we even know you're on). The rest of us will enjoy the fact we can actually get weapons as good or better than collector / crafted, especially in shields / wands / staffs in the skins we want for once without insane amounts of time that doesn't really help the game.
Think about Nightfall. Even from release it was almost impossible getting groups for missions cause everyone was out farming for whatever green / etc. had just been discovered to cash in. I see a correction to that with this change, and if that means we lose some people, whoopty doo. I think ANET just made more friends of those frustrated with trying to get things they want who will stick around to play then with those who are upset their online empire crumbled.

Personally I like looking out for those rare, perfect weapons and thinking "wow! this is going to make me rich! ). I dont farm per-se, but I do the Deep more often than I would if I wasn't looking for a nice zodiac weapon.
The inscription change (as much as it is speculated to be) cannot be in order to 'level the playing field' in terms of items as they are easily obtainable through collectors.
It also wont eliminate gold farming because gold will still be needed for skills and armour. For the casual gamer, who may get lucky in getting and selling a perfect item for 100k in order to buy skills and armour; that gamer will now need to go out and farm that same amount of money instead.

Let's face it, we all want to have the coolest looking weapons and armor. Everyone strives to be individuals and loves it when people ask you "Wow where did you get that" or "That looks sweet"
I think salvaging the weapon mods is fine but what really would keep people interested is the ability to customize the look of the armor and Weapons. Everyone having the same item stats is fine but people like to look different and be unique.
As for the comment above regarding playing the game for what it was meant for. I have to disagree. I have done these missions so many times trying to get Masters that once you complete them you dont feel like doing them again.
I enjoy the Deep runs but the whole point of those is to find the cool weapons in the chests and the nice green items. To tell people to play the game to help out other people do missions is just dumb IMO. The goal in the game is to obtain skills and to get the nice items for your character.
Capitalism at its best.

I think it will be great.I could care less if someone has a crystal sword or a staff of Oo Look At Me.If that is your thing more power to you.I like the idea of being able to choose your mod when you salvage.
I dont see people loseing interest.Shoot more will be actually playing instead of trying to get affordable equipment.
Just a note I been in a few guilds and folks except for a few dont have much in the way of gold.Alot were under 30k.

If the market disappeared over night it would not bother me... If anything I want rid of trade completely and have every item either crafted, collector or drops... Period... that dam trade button is the worst thing in the game.
Maybe, MAYBE!!! the auction house will change my opinion of the market... But I doubt it... the AH concept will add a new level of regulation beyond the screwy NPCs that is easily manipulated...
Thankfully after a LONG time of education of the new people coming into the game prices dropped to under 100K items some time back... which all the inflators were furious over... But I didn't care. If My selling Runes and Ecto at NPCs for a loss makes the market correct itself so much the better.
Now the demand is so low for most stuff Prices are actually attainable for even the newest of people to the game. But there are still a few rare exceptions. and that's OK, Most people only want it for Vanity reasons anyway.... and if they have the gold to WASTE, so be it...
But the rest of us typically just go to a collector get the equivalent thing for a few gold pieces and some material, and off we go laughing at these fools wasting their gold.
What Anet is doing is the least disruptive thing they can do...
Other things they could do is
make a fixed value system on all NPCs (I only wish)
Make a mod trader NPC to list fair mod values.
Make trades fixed so its not possible to pay more then the item is worth...
Add the auction house early... instead of with nightfall.
Eliminate gold from the game and have purchases based on merit.
So in hindsight you can see that the new salvage system is a minimal thing. just be glad they didn't do something more drastic. I know I would have.

Please think of it this way, I play 90% pvp, which I love, and the only time I ever pve is to cap elites (and yes, my monk has all 180 elites)or save up for some fancy weapon that I LIKE the LOOK of, not to make me better. So, I don't understand why people cannot let the traders and hard core power farmers do what THEY ENJOY...after all, they too buy the game, which keeps it free for us all. I say the more sales the better...no matter what or how you may like to play.
=HT=Ingram
I think the people who are always saying PvE is too easy are really going to bow to Anet when they see the Realm of Torment region, which it seems may change over time... so play it at launch ok fine, come back in a month or so and its completly different... hummm interesting no? add to that the Fog of War regen to the map as you zone... Its going to be a challenge I think that most everyone will like...
apocalypse_xx
Personally, I wouldn't care if there was gold at all, but for a game to have long lasting appeal to a wide range of players...there has to be something to pull you back...one or two foggy "uber" hard areas isn't going to cut it. Why not you may ask? The answer is easy...we all login at times when there are few other players looking to do what WE had in mind, so at that moment you have 2 choices, go farm/solo, whatever, or LOGOUT. Taking away play options IS NEVER a good choice IMO...if it were me, I would be adding more options. I guess we will just have to wait and see, I am hoping that NF will bring new game play options that will keep players around for the long haul...cause I sure enjoy pvp!!!
