Decision quests
Kelsey Cain
One of the 'features' I liked was the 'decision' quests - particularly the 'choose an heir' quest. I am presuming/hoping that your choice will somehow effect events later on in the game.
The other varied outcome quest I can recall was the 'trial' quest. Tried most of the combinations of witnesses and question answers, and although the score was always against the sunspears, the margin varied a lot depending on the combinations used. The best I managed was a one point difference and again I'm wondering if/how this might affect the game later.
Still have a few quests left to do so may have missed any others.

very interesting....It would be awesome if it did have an effect on the storyline :P

The trial seemed quite Chrono Trigger to me. I wish the Phoenix Wright music would play

Yeah, I agree.
I like the fact that some of the quest and missions (ie the Blacktide Den mission) aren't so linear anymore
.
I'm really enjoying Nightfall a lot

Hi,
IMO the decision was tough until I figured out that I wanted the First Born fighter with me. The quest says Master and I didn't think the second or third born could cut it in the battlefeild. (Then again I can't cut it inthe battlefeild since I haven't finished this mission yet.) Found it a bit early I think. Was level 9 at the time. Will go back to it later if time allows.

lol, I took 2nd born, I was lvl10. Grabbing the inheritance was easy.

Sry for the noob question, but what are you guys talking about, and how does it relate to nightfall?

Lady Lozza
lol, there are a couple of quests that ask you to make a decision. Remember the "Drink of the Chalice/Refuse to Drink" combination - you could only choose one?
Well it's the same thing. This thread however was speculating as to whether or not they would have more significance than the chalice quest did in Factions.

One of the advertised selling points of the game is : 'Player actions will result in dramatic consequences' - So I'm hoping that (a) there will be a lot more of these type of quests and (b) the outcomes based on player decisions are indeed dramatic.
The trial score might for instance, determine the hostility of the kournan resistance in the upcoming war - trial goes well, less enemies to fight - trial goes badly, harder battles against higher level opponents.
Likewise your choice of heir will hopefully be significant later on in the game.
Firstborn - turns up during a difficult mission with allies to lend support
Secondborn - Healing/aid later on in the game
Thirdborn - Mission later in the game is harder as renegade thirdborn is on the enemy side.
Just some thoughts on those quests I've seen so far.

The trial was one of the main quests - where you present witnesses and answer questions. There is a score displayed as the trial progresses.

Horseman Of War
I like that one where you have to find that one dude and interrogate him.
I killed him. (thank you anet for letting me choose lol)

YES! The scene sent me right back to playing on my SNES, and humming the catchy background music for the trial. Oh, /me wants play CT again!!!

I believe in the PC Gamer preview, they mention that their will be choices you have to make that will affect the story later in the game, so I think we can expect to see a few things like this.
I am VERY happy to see some semblance of actual role-playing in this game, I think Anet is really going in the right direction with this one.

/me nods vigourously.
That preview, i found it so incredible, will totally like this... Then again, we are used to great work from ANet ha ha ha...
I really think ANet will have great success with this chapter... Maybe more than Prophecies! I am seeing a great "avenir" for Nightfall, this will be great. I hope that further chapters will be "à la hauteur de son succès".
(Sorry for the french quotes, english is not my native language.)

Bingo. And if you are going to base a MMO off of a RPG, you could do *ALOT* worse then Chrono Trigger.

One quest I liked was A Leap of Faith. Two men dueling over a woman, who do I let live: her lover Dalz or her father Behron? Well, I thought I solved their dilemma...
...I didn't get the quest reward :/

Where/who gave the heir quest?
I thought I'd done them all (except for the one in the bog about rescuing the pissheads, I think that was glitched).
It's entirely possible that I did it and just didn't read anything. I was at a lan and frequently distracted by crazy antics. (Probably laughing at yet ANOTHER person zoning into the digs before the scholar turned up)

The series of heir quests were given just west of Kodlonu Hamlet. You had to wait for the funeral to play out first.
Sakan
Ah, that'd be why. I stopped, looked around, and then went right on with what I was doing.
I'll have to take more time to look around when it retails.

Heheh it's a good bet that whenever you see random NPC talking going one that there's a quest in there somewhere. *keeps watching the magic show in Kaineng City*
I like the split quests too. BTW, was there a way to win the trial one or do you simply choose the manner of your loosing?

LOL, Dalz was the father, not Behron.
When I was doing the quest, and they turned into hostile, the heroes and henchmen (8 man party) killed Behron in less than 2 seconds. I was "WTH just happened?" and then took reward from Dalz. I'll take some distance next time.

I read somewhere that you can choose certain paths and based on your decisions, you will aquire certain heros & not others. So if you get one hero another may not become available for you to get.

^ No one I've talked to has won the trial.
Etrik
You should have killed her lover, since she anyways swore to protect her father over her lover.
If you had killed her father she would be mad at you and she wouldn't talk to her lover anyways. I killed the lover. Evurl me.

Lady Lozza
I didn't even come close with the trial.
Some hints though perhaps for a bit later:
1) Don't call the Dervish. Since we don't have to call all the witnesses she is one of the ones you don't want to call.
2) Be careful of what you say. Saying too much in you testimony is a big no. Saying too little is ALSO a big no.
3) Koss didn't seem to do too bad when he talked, in fact I think he swung things my way.
3) Tal, well I think calling her is what triggers the end of the trial, so you have to call her at some stage, maybe the sooner the better...

Koss was a blowhard and his testimony was weak. Hurt my score as the first witness.
I called Dunkoro next and he helped the score with a reasonable argument.
I can't recall who I called next, maybe Ironfist. Final score was like 10-16 against me but once Tal brought in Kormir I still got the quest completed with the reward promised.
My wife tried calling Tal first off but she wasn't available, something about going to get Kormir.

I forgot..an interesting thing that I noticed with the Heir quest.
My wife and I were doing the quest together. Both of us chose a different heir (I took 1st born, she took 3rd born, IIRC) and they both accompanied us on the quest to First City (bickering between themselves the whole time) and both of us got the quest reward for our respective heir. I believe it would be possible to have all three heirs along for the quest.

Interesting observation, Dyna, will keep this in mind

I saw the funeral, stopped and did /bowhead out of respect (yes, I know they are not real, some things are just ingrained). The funny thing was, the henchies and heroes stood around me in a circle and bowed their heads too! Only they were impatient as they keept looking up at me and then go back to bowing their heads.

That was an update for the event that made henchies do whatever you did. If you did /dance, then they would dance with you or play an instument. If you did /jump, then they would jump with you. Same with the other emotes.

I took the treasure quest, I think the youngest son had it.
I was teleported to Fahranur to get the treasure.
How about the other two quests, what were they?

Once you made the decision all three had to do the same quest, to fetch the gold.
Myster Grim
I took the yongest and saw him later just east of where we got that quest. He had two pirates with him all non hostile and he said i think " Just wait till i get a ship then I will take over a land and name it for my self, if you come there I might reward you if have enough gold" should of took a screen shot huh.

LOL I did that too. You already have to do /emote for some missions so you never know..
