Quite Vulgar [FUN]

System:

Amd 1.5 ghz (over clocked slightly)
Ati Abit Radeon 9600XT-VIO (overclocked using the overdrive feature)
Asus motherboard
1 gig ram

I run -perf on my gw so I can see the transfer rate and frames per second. I was having horrible lag issues with the nightfalls event. I was experiencing problems before but it got worse after the event.

I do the normal system test and scans. No virus, adware, or spyware. Unistalled gw and deleted all of its existance. Did a registry clean up. Downloaded the client again. Updated video drivers.

Defrag the comp because it has been a while. Even used the sticky contig defrag to target gw.dat after downloading files from gw.

Here is what's strange. I used to run gw in window mode. I usually run 15-18 frames per second with a good 50-70k transfer rate. After the video driver updates I tweaked my settings and turned it all to performance. Open GW in window mode. 3 frames per second and a 9k transfer rate. All the maps download every time I enter them. Even its areas that I've been to before.

Changed it to full screen mode. Now getting a 30-40 fps and 1.1 mb transfer rate. My mouse cursor is invisible unless I'm moving it. When I stop moving it disappears again. Game still lags like crazy and skips everywhere.

I've done some ping test and all come back 30ms avg. Also when I start my comp I will have everything turned off. No programs are running and nothing in task tray. Open my task manager to see my cpu jumping from 80-100% usage. I go to processes to see what is using my cpu 99 idle process. That seemed very strange to me so I decided to run a game that uses up more system resources than gw: Unreal 04.

Unreal ran perfectly smooth in fact much better than it used to. Even played online with no lag issues at all.

I also tried a system retore. I restored it back to a point before all my changes and the lag started hitting me. Still having the same problem.

At this point the only thing left for me to do is format and reinstall everything from scratch. I just don't get I improve my vid card's performance, have more fps, better transfer rate, and everything is still lagging so much I cannot even play without rubberbanding everywhere.

I'm all out of options.

Not really. I only play high end GvG. You can't afford to be lagging all the time when you are a war.

You'll end up in their backline overextended without even knowing it.

Hmm, that sounds slightly reminiscent of my problem. I had GW continually having to download stuff every time I changed districts / maps etc... only my problem seemed a little worse than yours in that I kept on getting the same horrible error message....a non-GW error message that is, it was an error-message in a MS Windows style of window.

A link to my problem (with the solution) is here

Turns out it was my memory and the CPU was getting SO overused (and hence, so hot) due to the fact that it was continually having to re-allocate data to alternative, working memory chips. I downloaded the GW-reccommended memory-test and tested each individual stick of RAM separately to determine the faulty one. I don't know if it's the same as your problem, but it certainly sounds similar. Maybe worth checking out your memory.

Set your pagefile to System Managed. Next, get Power Defragmentor GUI and SysInternals Contig and pair them up.
