I only started the game about 3 weeks ago and it is going fine, the low level areas are still full to the brim.

It's definitely not too late. I just started the friday before last week, and i've enjoyed Guild Wars very much!!! There are lots of nice people out there who are willing to help out, but ocassionally there are jerks as well. A couple days ago there were people looking for RoT farming, whereever RoT means (i know, i'm still noob). So i wanted to see what it was about, and i was lvl 19 at the time. The group leader took me in, but there was this guy who said i'm not level 20, and asked me whether i have 15k armor. I said no, and i politely told the group leader that I would just leave the group. I suppose if that guy was so pro, he could have looked at my outfit and tell that i'm only wearing elementalist armor. Well, bad things ahppen.

So yes, buy Guild Wars, it's not too late!!

As many others have said, get Prophecies.
GW isn't one of those games where to get powerful you need to play for 6 hours a day and have no life. x.x
Guild Wars is alot about skill, rather than hours played. Pure intelligence can beat the most experienced players (an officer in my guild beat one of the best guilds in the world in a battle, and our guild aren't even ranked).
As for guilds, I've never seen a guild with a level restriction...

I agree that PUGs can sometimes be a real headache, but I started playing the game without knowing any other RL players, and yet still had a real blast with some of the groups I ended up with, and made some good friends that way.
Though I've since indroctrinated all my flatmates into the ways of GW, I still find myself having a lot of fun with some PUGs. The community may not be so much fun as it once was - I can't say, I've not been around long enough - but it's definitely not too late to get into the game and have some fun

That's complete B.S. This game is designed around items not having that much of a statistical difference. You will easily come across items that will suit your need as you progress through PVE. If anything, it is much easier to aquire perfect items faster, since greens have been introduced and most people have good items so it's easier for them to give away the near perfect stuff they have left over. Also, guild's like having new active people so finding one for pve should be easy.

seconded!

I have made a new char, still in pre searing, they have 50k already in 2 days. Sure i have the benefit of knowing where to farm, and a healthy love of trading, but too late to play PvE? complete rubbish. utterly. you can kit a player out in perfect weps and top armour for less than 50k! two days work for me :P perhaps 2 weeks for the newcomer. and when you're finished getting that you can spend some time in mastering the game, getting all the skills, PvE wise or PvP, or both .

beause of the level 20 cap it really doesn't take long at all to build a respectable character so i'd say it's never gonna be to late, besides now you have information avaible that those of us who started when the game launcehed didn't.

No, not too late at all. Hubbie and I started playing two months ago, and it is loads of fun. We do have the advantage that a friend invited us in his guild, and our guild is a friendly one that helps us out a lot. We are in a different timezone then most of our guildies, so we can't alweays rely on them, but when they are on they are happy to go back to the earlier missions and help us out.
Besides that hubbie plays with Pick Up Groups a lot, and I tend to take henchmen for most missions myself. Both ways of playing the game can be either succesful or very frustrating, depending on the mission

It is definitely not too late, i still see a lot of other new characters like us in both Tyria and Cantha working their way through the missions rather then being run up by a higher level friend. And truth to tell, working your way through the campaigns with the occasional help of guildies and PUGs is very satisfying, I enjoy myself a lot playing this game

I'd Say, start with Nightfall if you can wait a few more weeks. That way you and the rest of the community will be fairly new to the fresh Chapter. Prophecies is good but the population has thinned out so It might be a bit hard to progress, and Factions...well...Factions is Factions.

nope not to late but i wouldn't wait for nightfall! You can pick up the first guild wars for £9.99 now, it would be better to pick that up now play it for two months or so then pick up nightfall for £20, as the price dropped down to £20 soon after launch for both previous guild wars games.

If you pick up nightfall from launch you are looking at about £30 for just the one game, where as if you wait a bit you could have two of the guild wars games for the same amount fo money.

Its not too late in the sense of pvp. The only requirement for pvp is that you know how to play and not be stupid...and mabye have a couple runes/skills. Probably takes you about a month to get good at it. For PvE you are a bit late. lol, you should start playing guildwars its great fun, and there are always people doing missions, because even old players like to make a new character every once in awhile .

It's not to late and yes guilds will accept you at your low level but don't let them rush you. If all they want to do is rush you then find a different guild. There are still a lot of people to play with that are low levels. There are still people buying Prophecies for the first time. Check the Q&A section and you will see a bunch of people asking which one to buy.

Good luck and don't get in a rush you have time. Better to just be starting out than to be finished and bored ^_^

I've been playing for over 15 months and I have a lvl 10, lvl 11, lvl2, and 4 lvl 20's so I may not be "new" but when I'm on my lower level characters people may think it. When Nightfall comes out I will start 3 more new characters lol. I play which ever proffesion when I feel like it. So there will always be lower lvl characters to help out.

And now since I've been there done that I can help a lot more and I even give items and weapons when I can. Gave a Low lvl assasain a pair of green daggers for helping my Mesmer out in a mission.

Welcome to Guild Wars!!!

Well my introduction to GW was with Factions, which i got about 3 weeks ago. It's been fun but all this talk of Prophecies makes me feel like I'm missing out big time! I am now tempted to pick it up, mainly because I am more of a PvE player

Nightfall also looks promising too. So I'm sort of stuck between a rock and hard place... if you can call having a choice between 2 good games a bad situation.

Nope, not too late. I don't even think you need to wait for Nightfall, by the time Nightfall comes out you can have a lvl 20 character or 2. Depends on your funds and motivation.

Certainly not too late. New players start all the time and then you have older players making new characters, in fact I made a monk this morning in Factions and was playing with some new people helping them understand the game.

GW is designed to be about skill rather than level and power, that is why you only go to level 20. I used to beat people with my simple blue hammer in pvp back a few months ago when I started in prophecies simply because I was a more skillful player.

Yes the money I have now help me when I am trying to level up a new character but I only do this because I am not interesting in the learning curve anymore because I do not need it.

I would wait until Nightfall however. the new game will drain 90% of people out of Prophecies and Factions for atleast a month, I am actualy very worried for Factions, it may never recover (If that is Nightfall turns out to be as good as the preview weekend seemed to suggest)
