Swaping weapons should yield a 2 second skill disable, not only for game balance, but because it...well...makes sense.
How realistic is instantly removing a bow instaneously and replace it with another bow without consequence? Same logic with staves.
(Before you argue "this is a video game," I can't think of many other RPGs which allow instatenous weapon swapping. The old Final Fantasy game required a turn to swap weapons and World of Warcraft causes a 1.5 second delay. It's universal)
It also allows a slight balance to weapon swapping. Monks use 20/20 Inspiration Rods and Foci for a potential fast recharge on Mantra of Recall. Then they switch back to their previous weapon. To me, that doesn't make sense.
A 2 second disable would be both balanced and politically correct. Why not add it?

its not instantaneous...theres a slight delay.
i really dont see a point of initializing this, as anet *tries* to balance all the weapon mods.

Keep it the way it is, since when are people using magic realistic?
If you're skilled enough to weapons swap for certain skills, then good for you. Only thing bad is that PVP chars only get 2 slots so they're limited to more choices anyway unless they reuse the same stuff and do 11, 22, 12, and 21 if you catch my drift.

It's most notable with bows, since Rangers tend to switch between Longbows and Recurve Bows. I just don't think that moving around a 100 pound object instantaneously makes sense.

I can't switch to bow and fire instantaniously... If anything most of the time switching bows or any weapon for that matter gets me killed... cause I stop firing or hitting. and Quite frankly I'm only safe in most of my build if I am attacking. if I stop and try to run, I'm dead. that seems to be the case with most builds I've seen.

if you never noticed, sometimes switching things while casting will interupt yourself, as well as you have latency to be ready to even CLICK or KEY in your next skill.
for shame i will mention, IT IS A VIDEO GAME, about skill, not: "oops i dropped my staff in-game, lemme pick it up before i can use my bow!"..... just .... no.
latency actually does the job fine if your that stuck up about it, try switching weapons many times then try to use a skill only for a weap you just switched to. ? had to wait? yeah i know, its called the game wont play without a server.

You have to stop firing or using a skill before you can switch weapons and even then, theres a slight delay.
While i dont see it as extremely realistic, i think it fits the more fast paced gameplay style of guild wars.
Slower weapon swapping would be harder to use.
PvP is already being sped up to be more fast paced (look at all recent GvG and HA changes).
Besides if we didnt have fast weapon switching, then E-denial would be incredibly powerful.
