Mhenlo; Is there no escape?

I noticed, watching the most recent footage from Nightfall, Mhenlo in the combat scenes. At one point, his name (along with Aidan's) was visible in the party menu, showing him as a "healer henchman".

Aidan's rather a non-entity, and I have nothing against him, but after putting up with Mhenlo forgetting his place and pretending to be the hero all through Factions, seeing him in Elona frankly sickens me.

Players spent most of Factions being forced to play second-fiddle to the awesomeness that was the multiple-girlfriend-bearing, friend-of-all, Mhenlo.

"What are we going to DO?!?" cries my character in despair, turning to SuperMhenlo for guidance.

ACK!

I'd like MY character to be the hero, this time around, thank you very much.

Really, I'd love to have the folks that wrote Factions in the same room with me so I could kick them for forgetting who the star of any video game SHOULD be. (Hint: The players.)

So, although nobody's going to, someone PLEASE tell me Mhenlo's not really in the plot, won't be showing up in cutscenes, and is purely available as a henchman that I can happily leave back in town, crying in his beer, as I go save the day.

For the love of all that's holy, tell me...

mhenlo never passes up the oppertunity to sample exotic women. why do you think he was in ascalon in the first place?

They really need to make Mhenlo into something you can hit.

Bah. You´re all just jealous cause Mhenlo gets all the hot girls. Violent brutes that kill everything that moves like you and the other henchies probably aren´t what girls are looking for ^^

So we get to go thru another game where he uses his elite "Spam With Staff"
ability.Guess it could be worse and we could have Master Togo.Alway remember how tough a time he had against the 1st and 2nd lev bugs to get to minsters place on Pre island.Gave me a good laugh.

I hope players have a more important role in terms of story, not just the suporter of mhenlo/togo like in factions.

Hmm is it true that you can't command Plot NPC what to do on the radar? Cos......if so, it's THK allll over again.

Even if you hated him in Factions, you couldn't argue with having another (free)monk in the party. Plus, him being in Nightfall is probably ANet's way to advertise Prophecies.

Mhenlo is the coolest NPC ever...period.

Oh no, my ele was crazy in love with the interrupt henchie, Daemon. Understandable too since his "1337 skillz" allowed her to complete Unwaking with 15 henchies when no one else was around.

Mhenlo is the best, just wished he didnt have healing breeze.. heal other ftw..

Awesome post, Rhedd! That's a very interesting point, though, about the Factions storyline. I didn't feel like I was doing anything important. In Prophesies I was The Man, but in Factions I had to find Togo, then follow him around, then follow Mhenlo, assist Danica, use the Spear/Urn, get special powers from Kuunevang... I never felt like I was making a difference. I just wasn't engaged like I was in Prophecies, where I was an uber-mighty hero.

I have high hopes and some confidence for Nightfall, though. From what I saw, the game was more engaging, and I haven't run across Mhenny yet. *crosses fingers*

Our own characters and the Heroes we recruit seem to be prominent from what I saw of Nightfall during the preview event.

As Gedrand stated, so far your hero seems to be the focus in Nightfall. Everyone follows your lead. Let's hope it continues through the rest of the campaign.

It's al about the main character of the moment i think.
In Prophesies Devona seemed to be the central npc friend, in factions it was al about Mhenlo.

I hope they will give Aidan some importance now, since he was almost invisible in Factions, even wile in your party.

Whatever happens, the bald boy will probably have another girlfriend in Elonia, and Cynn will be pissed again.

And Eve will probably complain about sunburns.

does cynn have affair with him? isn't him a monk!? can he do that!?

As far as i know, GW monks have no vows of chastity.
Tough i always feel more inclined to give cute pink monk girls a lollypop instead of wanting to do you-know-what them.
