Nightfall Bosses - Proph or Factions-like
CalypsoX
Couldn't find another post on this topic, so forgive me if it's already been answered.
I was curious what the bosses in the Nightfall preview were like (granted, there weren't that many). There were rumors of greens dropping, but no official screenshots or confirmations.
What I'm wondering is whether the bosses do double damage/ half cast time like Factions or have Natural Resistance like Proph, or both (god forbid), or something else. Honestly, I wasn't really paying attention, so I couldn't tell.
Personally, I think the Factions bosses were a little outrageous, especially the ele ones (forget the fact that they can be soloed for a minute). A boss can kill a 60 al target with a single skill is too much. A boss that WANDS for over 100 dmg on my ranger is ridiculous.

i think they have mixed features of both, at least what i noticed (though my eyes could have been messing with me after 11 straight hours of playin) is that they have the natural resistance (at least against conditions) and the double activation time, but not hex resistance and double damage, though i could be wrong.

Double damage is exciting. Taking 200~400 damage from a single skill actually makes you sit up and think, "hey, I better pay attention". Nothing does enough damage in Prophecies to really make you care at all. For instance, I noticed that PUG casters actually *kite* in the Arborstone mission, because the Stone Judge destroys their face in three hits. At the very least, Factions bosses made you thankful for prot spirit.
Making a boss harder to kill by increasing its health, giving it resistances to hexes/conditions, natural regeneration, enormous energy pool, etc. is just annoying. It doesn't actually make the game more difficult, only more time consuming.
I much, much prefer bosses that are more fragile but do ridiculous damage.
As for what the Nightfall bosses were like ... my Dervish had 45 armor, and the 2nd mission boss did 145 damage with an Eremite's Attack, with 3 people standing next to him. If we assume he gets +10 damage for each adjacent foe, that's only +30, and remember that the boss is level 13. It seems like double damage, right? Not having actually run the numbers I'm not sure though.

Actually, now that you mention it, a dervish boss with double damage is even scarier with their aoe attacks, and the tendency of henchmen to bunch up close to each other. Yikes! Party wipe with one boss attack

It happened to my party twice in a row. I think it was actually two attacks from the boss for a party whipe but yeah... lol
Surprisingly enough. the third time I went in, he was a push over. Barely got hurt.

I hope they are like prophecies.I thought it was done better. In factions seeing half the party wiped out in one shot seemed silly.I like to play the game. You can make it a challege with out overkill.

Prophecies bosses were just annoying. There was no real danger in fighting them, it just took longer time to kill them.
Anyway notice how Factions bosses in Shing Jea island were Prophecies type, with half hex/condition duration. So I wouldn't assume anything about Nightfall bosses until the level 20 content.

Hm, or it could have been Prophecies style bosses on the western Shing Jea only.

Ahhh... when I think of these things Snapjaw Windshell comes to mind... what a dirty dirty boss. Talk about a party wipe... gale, 200-300 dmg teinai's wind with KD and Earthquake spam for another 200-300 dmg. Seriously, Snapjaw eats through henchies like pez.
Yes he's a pain but I like to see respectable bosses in the game. They should earn those colored auras. Prophecies bosses like Willa the Unpleasant... are just pointless... I mean whats the point in making a boss that just tanks your attacks and wastes an hour of your time. Willa just irritates you, but Snapjaw.... you know better than to fight him without some sort of plan.

i hope they dont equip all bosses with greens again.. maybe a boss at the end of co op missions that will drop greens
Lady Lozza
Lol, Willa was a challange till people learned to bring along mesmers and to box her in for the renewal nukers. I think though they should have a monk boss like this, and an ele boss like the factions ones
