raids?
Lawnmower
would you like to see raids in GW?
If so, how would you do them so they wouldnt make the mistake that other games have done?
how many players should be able to go to one of these missions?
should it be the ultimate hard boss monster?
house of Grenth - lvl 200 god. 40-60 people to try and take him down? incredible hard.
how long should something like that take to complete? how many players should be able to go in a raid on the same time? how hard should it be? what sort of reward should it drop? how would it have endless replay value?
should it be more like a 6 hour marathon like in WoW, or a quicky experience like beating Baal in diablo?
or is raids just a bad idea for end game in pve besides farming?

I don't think the game engine could handle 40 players all attacking one monster at the same time, in the same instance.
Also, just think of how many builds would be used. I can just picture a tonne (oh metric!) of monks: some heal, some prot, some bond, some smite, some condition remove, and some hex remove.

LvL 20 bosses from Nightfall can already wipe a 8 person party whith no more then 3 or 4 skills (damnit argos breath) so whats the porpouse of a 60 one?!?!
Also, vs Kuunavang it is already a 24 people "raid" whith a super powerfull boss at the end...
In Guild Wars people get killed instantly if they dont pay attention....it is not like in other games where a warrior have 9000 more armor whith the SUPER armor type or an ele can have a invinssibility spell...things here are 2 fast paced for a 200lvl boss ever to exist...EVEN if there where 900 people fighting him....we would all be slaughtered....5 or 6 of us in each spell ^^
They would have to redo much of the gameplay mechanics to add some sort of raid to the game whith the same conccept it have in other games...
Latter.

Scavenger Rage
I realy dont know for sure now....
OOO well, either way...12+12 or 8+8 that mission already is some sort of raid...

As far as I'm concerned Guild Wars already has "raids" (big, tough dungeons with multiple groups of players with a big boss at the end) they're just done in the Guild Wars style. If you want something like Everquest, with groups of 40 people fighting a monster for half an hour... I just don't see that happening. It doesn't fit the game play style.
Malice Black
I opened this expecting...
"go play WoW" type comments..cant see how they would fit it in but I wouldnt object if they did.

The one with bigger parties is Alliance battles, which are 12 vs 12, or Elite missions with just 12.

I think this was why anet made the 12 person elite missions, keeping the concentration on player skill rather than pure numbers. In all honesty, GW could handle a 40 person mission graphically (they'd just use the 1/2 res player textures and low lod models like they do in towns, they'd maybe have to tone down some of the particle effects as well...), it's just a matter of whether they'd want to.

If you're going to make a suggestion; outline what you are suggesting. You asked 12 questions and made two statements. Posing a series of questions doesn't tell anyone what YOU are suggesting nor what you want.
The elite missions are likely about as close as GW will get to a raid.

Lawnmower, is it my imagination, or do the majority of your suggestions have something to do with other games? Assassins Creed, WoW, Half-life, and I'm sure the list goes on. While I'm not against taking ideas from other games, at least keep it within the realm of reality.
The truth itself
Lawnmower. Oh noes.
Bad idea, GW already has raids, SF, end missions, elite missions, tombs.. ect.

Yet another thread trying to make Guild Wars something it's not.

that would be interesting....a giant monster appearing in ascalon city district one and all the people there try to attack it.

GW doesn't need typical "raid" missions/quests like other games.

I want a system where if enough people sell Sup Vigors to the merchant, it spawns UBER-SHIRO when you walk up to an aura-class monster. If you kill UBER-SHIRO you get an annhilus which gives you +3 to all your primary attributes!! Unfortunately, only wammos will be able to solo him.

Who says that raids have to be anything like other games? It's funny that as soon as someone says raid, people start preaching WoW and so on.
the thing about the elite missions and SF is that they are boring and to easy. does do not belong as end game. Your doing does a few times, and thats it.
raids in other games you can do 200 times and they are litterly just as fun because of the massive challange.
it would require complexity. maybe it could be just fighting the gods... ia set up like the killing of Shiro, where the mission is just a boss.
alliances seem to have turned into a gimmick. if it was created into something PvE related where many guilds had to band together to get something accomplished.
maybe having 5-6 full groups of people doing different paths and thinks in a mission to get it accomplished. if a mission is created with end game in mind, I think it could be awesome.
lets be fair. besides farming there is no pve end game.
you dont even have to call it a raid...

I wouldn't mind outposts where monsters came in and attacked though.
