Selective Worship

It's 2am, I've had a few shots of Southern Comfort, and I have an IDEA.

I also type better drunk than most of you do sober. So HA!

I want to be able to pick a deity to specialize in. Fer instance, Dwayna on my elementalist, Melandru on my monk, whatever I want.

How would this work with existing Balthazar faction?

Simple. Rename that shit to Zaishen faction.

I'd like to be able to use faction gained with my chosen deity to unlock special titles (Acolyte, Disciple, Avatar, whatever), armor and weapon skins, maybe even a specialty skill (nothing super-lame overpowered, mind you).

Whatever, really. Wouldn't have to be any of those things, but it'd be nice if it included at least the titles one. Just some vanity fluff.

Why?

It'd be a nice RP thing. It'd also tie in well with the NF story line of super evil deity worship causing bad shit to happen. And it'd be a cool new meta-linkage. All Dwayna guilds? Probably not, but at least more likely than all ranger guilds.

I doubt it would get implemented, though, because this wouldn't be something you could stick in an expansion pack, so it'd have to be done free. And free=bad for anet.

Not that I mind that. They damn well better stay solvent, I've wasted too much time on this game for them to up and go broke on me.

So it'd be cool. And if there was already a thread on this, I don't really give a shit. Your search engine makes me mad, and I'm not gonna commit thread necromancy just so that I can save you a measly thread. Delete the damn avatars, that would save you tons of space. Or my account, though that wouldn't save much, since I don't spam threads.

Whatever. Its not like I'm coming back to this thread, so don't bother to respond.

If you bother to read the lore; each profession already has a patron god (with the exception of the elementalists that worship everything). This very suggestion is moot.

I think it has potential. We could be given some new titles, worship titles or whatever. Say you have a monk and you choose Dwayna as your patron. She would then require you to have at least 10 Divine Favor and then the engine would count the amount of heals you cast on team members. 100k heal points for rank 1 and 1 million for max rank 5. Or whatever.

Well balthazar is the god of war, so I don't know if it'd fit in well since it's balthazar's faction. I like the idea it's pretty cute gotta admit I like your thinking, get wasted more often please.

Started out as a neat idea.... ended as a drunken mess. Drink some Red Bull.

Each prof. already have their own 'gods.' And the special titles for each god you follow is, as you've pointed out, fluff. If there were more to this idea it might be good, but as it stands it's all you're really doing is earning faction or reward and putting it towards character/god specific titles. Thus the different titles mean basically the same thing they're just in a different wrapper.

I knew there was something flawed in the idea. So yes, apply the title only on healing others than yourself. Ok, the title could still be farmed: go out with hench team and heal away. But that kind of healing is pretty mind nubing, pointless and total waste of time. It would be a lot better for a player to play and heal, not stand in one place and heal henchies while doing nothing. As I said, this could be farmed, but 90% of other titles are farmed as well and I think this one would be a lot less farmable than most.

Actually if you killed the exploits like healing npcs and healing people who already have 100% hp (dunno what to do about saccers though, it might be useful for determining how much people have played their specific characters. People complain about the account-wide rank etc titles not telling which class you're good at, and this may fix it..

What I think he's trying to say is that "instead" of just Balthazar faction you could choose which God you wish to earn points for and get special rewards and titles depending on which God you choose.

So lets say you pick Grenth. You'd go into the arena, earn faction as you would if you still had balthazar to earn for. Earn 1k faction then go to.. wait gor it... Grenth Rewards (not Balthazar) You can still unlock the skills but maybe have another tab for Godly rewards.

How easy would it be to switch your character's deity after choosing? ANet doesn't seem big on locking you into any sort of specialization of your character (other than face & hair you picked at the beginning, despite constantly releasing new & better ones....grrrr), so they'd almost certainly put in a way to switch deities (I'd certainly want them to), which would make most of the special titles and gear and skills moot.

Shattered Self, your comment sucks. If Anet adds in the ability to change gods, it'll obviously take away the coolness when you switch. Just like when you change professions. You're sober, you have no excuse.

For those of you who lack basic reading comprehension and math skills, not all professions have a specific god just for their onesies.

Even at the beginning, this was not so. Wanna know how you tell? 5 gods, 6 professions. gg you lose. Even better, there are now 8 professions, 5 gods. Can I get a number crunch in here?

Most of the professions (this is straight from the lore) share a god or two. Balth, fer instance, is listed as a favorite of wars and eles, as well as monks.

Also according to the lore, assloads of people worship _teh dway_ when the shit hits the fan.

Being able to pick a specific god would be ENTIRELY in line with the lore, and with logic.

Again, you lot have no excuse for your stupid. Go smoke something, sheesh.

I see no reason why the current Balth faction cannot be renamed to Zaishen faction. The primary peeps in charge of it are the Zaishen. The Priests of Balthazar, who give out the rewards, are Zaishen. Just like with the Luxes and the Kurzes, the primary reward giver should be the name we use for the necessary pellets. Just because Anet hadn't invented the Zaishen when they started the game doesn't mean they can't change the name of Balth faction.

Besides, it's my idea, I make the rules.

Cataphract, you went too far. Your ideas would break the game. I'm just suggesting vanity stuff, and MAYBE an elite that you could unlock.

Ok, so what you would like is for what is currently Balthazar Faction to be renamed Zaishen Faction. Then you want a new kind of Faction relating to a character chosen god, which is earned by performing specific tasks for them.

Current assessment: this idea could well work in Nightfall, though it would probably take quite a bit of work to implement this before release. However... I ask you to give examples of the kind of quests you could receive from each god.

Warriors worship Balthazar
Rangers worship Melandru
Monks worship Dwayna and Balthazar
Elementalists worship all Gods
Mesmers worship Lyssa
Necromancers worship Grenth
Assassins worship Grenth and Lyssa
Ritualists worship Grenth and Dwayna (I would imagine)
Paragons worship all
Dervishes worship all

Commanders of armies pray to Balthazar through the Bastion to Marshal Glory
Everyone prays to Dwayna when they're going to die

I'm at work, sober is the only option. So, basically you want your deity to be like a third "mini-profession"?
