Warriors can get Slashing or blunt Swords, Blunt or Piercing Hammers and slashing or piercing axes, Rangers get different bow types and Sins get piercing or slashing daggers.

Does anyone else wonder if Dervs and Paragons willl get Scythes/Spears with Blunt or slashing damage or long/short spears?

I'm really hoping for spears with different ranges, but...the fact that they also carry a shield makes me doubt we'll see such a thing. I'd love to replace my longbow for a spear on my warrior. I could keep my shield on when pulling then.

Other than that, I wouldn't be surprised to see some Dervish or Paragon weapons with different damage types.

Dervishes can already do Earth, Cold and Holy damage with the different enchantments on them... What I'm really looking for is something that deals Shadow damage

You have to think about how the weapons work though. There isn't much you can do with a sythe except slash, and there isn't much you can do with a spear except throw it. (Well, if you had a longer spear like a pike, but paragon spears are small, and a pike would do piercing anyway)

Maybe a spear you can't throw, so all the spear skills become melee attacks? That'd be kind of interesting.

Blunt spears? You may as well throw rocks
Hmm, or maybe a boomerang. At least that would explain how
it appears back in your hand...

I was just tossing out ideas.

I could imagine a slashing spear: With a Sword-like blade instead of a spearpoint

I would have like to have seen some sort of melee attack with the spear.
Rather like they use staffs at close quarters, and those spears are pointed at both ends, this then would give you the choice of having a shield or not.

what i wonder is whether or not we'll actually see paragons using spear+shield...
i imagine most will be using an offhand, and i also forsee some using +5 energy swords, depending on build. but TBH i dont much see them using shields in most builds..they arent frontline chars, but they still possess the ability to take a punch, so i doubt they'll be the enemies first target in pvp, and in pve, leadership/motivation paragons probably outweigh their ability to deal damage.

when i first saw that the paragons would use spears, i was REALLy, REALLY hoping for GWs first dual-purpose weapon, as in 2 seperate dmg ranges, one for melee, one for range, and 2 different skillsets, etc.
it would have brought an interesting versatility to the paragon.

Piercing refers to a stabbing or penetrating-like motion, if you incorporated slashing damage into a spear, then it would effectively be based on the person's trowing style, rather than the weapon itself (Intentionally throwing it so that it grazes the target, thereby incorporating slashing damage)

That's why the sword and dagger are slightly flawed in their damage type, because you should be able to both stab and slash at your target, unfortunately you can only deal one.

Aside, a Jitte is a type of sword that deals blunt damage^^ (like a fencing sword). There are Piercing axes that deal piercing damage as well, due to their pointed tip.

Why use +5 energy axes, when there is +5 energy spears? o.O

Well if they knew how to use their spears, they could add some extra armor on them besides the normal defense mods, as a staff weapon can be used defensively too.

Spears don't come with Sword-like blades.

The weapon you are referring to is a Kwan Dao, and its meant to be wielded something like a Scythe. Not to be thrown.
