Restore Rits yelled at less?
Fox Reeveheart
I haven't played in a while but I remember very vividly that when I decided to make a restore rit (changed from rit lord) I noticed a few things...
I got groups much faster...
If somebody died I was NEVER yelled at by somebody saying "WTF WHERES THE HEALING?"
If somebody died and I was with a monk, the monk got yelled at instead of me
Is it that people expect less from a restore rit because they are more of a backup healer?
Unless things went different from your restore rit... what do you think? What did you notice?
edit: forgot to say that because of all this, I really enjoy playing my restore rit

I think you may be right there. I'm not one to complain at healers unless they are doing a horrendously poor job but i've don't think i've ever seen a restoration rit being complained at by other players. It's usually the case that some idiot over-extends and gets killed then complains at the monk for not healing him.

edit: forgot to say that because of all this, I really enjoy playing my restore rit I've played restoration rit in pve and my experience has been pretty similar. People seem to look at ritualists as a support class, working quietly in the background to make things a bit easier on the party. This can be good, as rits are hardly ever blamed for failure. However, there is a downside too. When I was trying to find pugs, I found that teams only wanted a rest rit when no monks were available or if they were just looking for a random person. If it wasn't for the lack of monks, I'm not sure how popular restoration rits would be.

I'm absolutely with you Fox - as a restoration ritualist, I normally am accepted into groups quickly but don't get the blame if things go south healing-wise.
It was unusual though - last night I was farting around with a PuG in Raisu Palace, and a monk actually yelled out at me - "Where are the Spirits?" I guess I got reverse stereotyped there - that all ritualists are spirit spammers.
Too funny.

Do you see Mesmer get yelled at? NO!! Because we're too pro to get yelled at. Or is it because we can't get a group at all? $%@$#^

I've always found that preemptive yelling works to avoid people thinking you're at fault when playing monk. I just blame it on the mesmer. <cough>
I think that if people have a RestoRit in there group, it's because they couldn't find another monk. They're probally so thankful you're a healer, they can look past immagined faults.

it depends what chapter your playing in. if your profeises you got other mesmers you have to compete with and i don't know how often there a team with more then 2.
with factions you got assains to compete with and other mesmers again i don't see more then one of either to often in a group.
now that i just said that i think i'll try to have one for nightfall since i'll only have to deal with mesmers, assains, rits, paragons and those sythe guys. O_o

I've only recently started playing healer with a resto rit.... and so far, no one has yelled at any of the monks, or at me. One guy did leave our group, which had 2 rits and a monk...but he was a full aggro circle ahead of the group and got croaked by a group of afflicted. He made an angry noise and left the game.
In general, I try to side with the monks....because most of them have a clue!
I won't claim I have a clue, but in general, I do my job and find myself not loudly criticized.

When people ask for nukers, they only need one. But some are stuck in their ways and want two. That second spot could have been filled with a Mesmer.
Assassins compete with the second Warrior. Again, you only need one tank. But the usual discrimination against ssins reduces the chances and that spot goes to the second tank.
Eventually, Tanks will be competing with Paragons for the obvious reasons. But then Dervishes will have to contend with Assassins. Which means that ssins will never get the respect they deserve anytime soon.

I play both an Attuned Restoration Rit and a Monk. I do see monks get yelled at more and they don't deserve it. The last time someone yelled at me playing a monk got no more healing. The complaints ended real fast and we still got Masters.
(BTW I was the only healing source in a 8 man party, everyone thought the Channeling Rit was a Restoring Rit)

I've only gotten compliments as a restoration rit. I use spirit spam and restoration builds so I've played in groups with 1 rit and 1 monk and groups with 2 monks. In my experience, the groups with 1 rit and 1 monk actually fair better....but maybe that's because I'm just so good . If someone dies, it's usually because they're an assassin or over-aggroed.
I'm one of those crazy guys who thinks that restoration rits are underrated. And I will always pick a restoration rit if I see one. However, I'm not crazy enough to take 2 along without a monk. Restoration Rits are excellent as support and I personally think they compliment a monk better than another monk.

Ive found that most people dont let resto rits into the group as easily as monks but still ive never gotten yelled at(BECAUSE IM SO UBER AND NO ONE DIES! =)
If anyone gives u trouble while healing them you be like...
"excuse but i believe your talking to a resto rit/monk"

I love playing Restoration Ritualist. I also understand what you mean when you say monks get shouted at more...if I am ina group with a monk and I am playing healing ritualist I don't think I've ever been complained at. And maybe it is because people think that the Ritualist is only a back-up healer but I take offense to that...I have been the only healer in many-a-mission...and we got through just fine. I plan to make a monk in Nightfall then I'llbe able to test it properly.
Illuminus
When Factions launced.. i started a ritualist, but couldnt find a good purpose for him. After awhile i decided to delete him.. but a few months ago i recreated my ritualist to try and capture Ritual Lord. When i finally captured it, the nerf happened .
But, im kind of glad.. because that forced me to test out Restoration side of it, and now im totally hooked! Rarely have energy problems if using Attuned Was Songkai, Life helps MM out to keep their minions alive and Recuperation is helpful in general. *Cough* Plus Ritualists rock at farming *Cough*
I am not to happy with the lack of Restoration spells in up coming Nightfall though... four skills in total, one elite . Synergetic Light and Recovery is ok.. but Weapon of Remedy is just to much of an energy drainer. Hopefully they will get buffed on release.

I think you were yelled at less because people don't expect rits to heal, just to lay spirits. If more restoration rits become commonplace, then you'll get the yelling you want :-p

I still feel that people are "settling" for a healing rit, since often times monks are in short supply. Groups are glad just to pick up that extra healer, so they seem less inclined to yell at a rit then a monk.
Furthermore, it seems today the majority of people playing monk don't know how to run a monk effectively. This includes the people who spam Heal Party and Healing Breeze on everyone, the monks who don't bring any kind of condition or hex removal, and the ones who seem to think bringing Banish will help the group somehow.
I have had a few people tell me they like healing rits because they play one themselves, so if you see my rit around, Taree Oda, feel free to take me on as a healer.

I play a restoration ritualist, and I have never received any complaints. I also have a monk, and when I enter mission areas, my rit gets invites just as quick as my monk does.
The ritualist class is amazing, and offers a great deal to groups. The funny thing is that most groups seem to know this...and often will take a rit over another class simply for the healing.
I definitely would not say that my rit heals as well as my monk. However, my rit's weapon spells mesh better with monk protection enchantments better than 2 protection monks could ever hope for.
I think rits are popular purely for the healing skills we have. It's just too bad few people play the class.

A restorer synergises extremely well with a protections monk - the monk for the anti-spike, and the rit for the pressure soaking. I'm really happy playing a healing rit

Well, what I've had playing a ritualist is that you don't get yelled at if someone dies, but if the healing is good you get no credit.
Even if the monk is terrible, and you heal extremely well, the teamies will say "awesome healing monk!" while the ritualist is actualy the one who did all the work.
Its thankless but safe :P

Experimenting with Restore Ritualists and Healing/Protection Monks for quite some time, I tend to enjoy the Restore Rits a lot more. They have the best of both worlds from the monk class, but not too dominate over them. Not that I get yelled at or anything but I find it a lot easier with Restore Rits since you can drop some spirits in one area and run away to do something else.
Weapon spells were excellent idea for Ritualists since how many times have we killed the frequent warrior or assassin with Vengeful Weapon in PvP? I have many of times and it certainly puts a smile on my face. Or put Wailing Weapon on yourself and mess with the rangers?

Which is true my friend. A long time ago, my guild leader made an assassin but she could never get into groups. She asked me to come along and help her so I thought of the idea of "setting up" bribes where they can't have the Restore Rit without the assassin and it worked every time.

I like the ritualist class in general for pve .......for the simple fact that weapon spells can't get stripped, using attuned was songkai provides decent energy management/ and with soothing memories it gains you a little energy.
I'm torn between spirit channelling/attuned though, which one is better, I would think attuned would be....discussion?

The main advantage that Spirit Chanellling has over AwS, is that you can use Item Spells in combination with it.
However, if you are not using any other Item Spells in your build, you should probably go AwS.
I`ve got to say that overall, I prefer Spirit Chanelling.

I don't have a problem with complaints whether I'm playing RestoRit or Monk. If someone doesn't like my perfomance and starts slinging abuse, I ask them to stop. If they don't, I give my regrets to the rest of the group and leave. I simply won't tolerate abusive language from other players, no matter what character I'm playing.
I certainly don't tolerate such abuse IRL, so I'm not going to accept it from anonymous strangers in a recreational environment (computer game).
