Best Buy + Pre-Release Bonus Pack = WARNING! [Merged]

I checked BestBuy's web site for any new information on the Nightfall Bonus Pack.

Interestingly it is no longer even listed on the site.

I next check GW's site and BestBuy and CompUSA are no longer even listed as a carriers of the Bonus Pack.

http://www.guildwars.com/support/whe...prerelease.php

I know there still 23 days until the release of Nightfall, and personally I understand that things can be delayed in manufacturing and the shipping and distribution process.

However, Its the fact that the Bonus pack was clearly touted by the company as *expected* in stores on the 15th that bugs me.

Why cant we just get a quick update from them saying - *Hey all - we're delayed a bit - the Bonus packs will be fully available on XX/XX/2006.

Its the secrecy that bothers many people - just tell us so we'll stop looking for the Bonus in stores that do not have them.

I stopped checking my Best Buy and walked in to Circuit City :O, and of course they had it. For only $5 too.

Even though they're not listed; I got it from Compusa back on Sep 15 and a lot of other people did to.

Got mine from my local Gamestop

I vowed to stop doing buisiness with Best Buy. I went in for a headset/mic that cost around twenty dollars. I saw one that had clearly been repackaged, and so I inquired as to why instead of costing eighteen dollars as it was marked on the isle, that it was twenty three dollars. I was informed that this was due to the "Restocking Fee"... Bog, charge the person returning the item, and the next customer to purchase it both a restocking fee? That's ridiculous... [/rant]

THAT is rediculous. If anything they give you a DISCOUNT on Repackaged items. In most stores if the item has been repackaged/Returned/Has some other deformity you can ask for a discount on the item from the manager and they are usually more than willing to shave a few bucks off the price because Repackaged items almost NEVER get sold and end up being lost stock.

It's kinda funny watching the spiral of negativity towards Best Buy [the company] because of misinformation.

The person that had the bad experience had a bad experience because of a select few employees (namely anyone working the computer department [even this is stretching it] and whatever employee answered the inquiry).

This is something you will find at most any place of business so it's always fun to watch people get irate over the littlest of things. Not saying it's happening here, just saying that it's funny in the larger scheme of things.

The re-stocking fee policy is on the back of every receipt and does not include headsets.

What happened is that the price on the headset went down while the computer department failed to manually change the price of the open item. It's supposed to be 10% off the current cost.

What FURTHER happened is either confusion or inexperience of the employee that attributed it to a re-stocking fee and not just plain failure to execute procedure.

Anyways...

I haven't checked the website availability, but the stores themselves should have the bonus packs. I physically have mine in hand and it just came in today (Frisco, TX).

I don't think Best Buy EVER had the Pre-Release pack available.

Personally, just today I went downtown and bought the Pre-Release pack for 5 dollars from EBGames.

There is the PRE-RELEASE BONUS PACK and the PRE-ORDER BOX.

These are two SEPARATE items.

The pre-release bonus pack, by itself, is 9.99 + tax. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TOWARDS THE GAME! It is a separate standalone product.

The pre-order box, by itself, is 10.00. This DOES apply towards the game.

When you buy BOTH products AT THE SAME TIME, you get a $5 discount on the pre-release bonus pack.

..but again..

You would still only get $10 towards the game when it comes out (not $14.99).

The packaging doesn't make this clear (or maybe I'm just really tired, heh).

So...

Spend $14.99 + tax and get $10 off...

or spend $9.99 + tax and get nothing off.

Interesting. and Confusing. So, both boxes are out on display?

Suddenly, Gamestop's $5 deposit and $4.99 bonus pack doesn't sound so bad!

I bought the PBP from Gamestop, and I will buy Nightfall through the Guild Wars Online store. Anet/NCsoft get all my money that way, instead of having to pay to make a physical disk/packaging and share a cut with a software retailer.

I ordered mine on the 15th and it has been put on "backordered" status ever since. I am concerned about whether I'm really going to get the bonus pack or not.

Mine said they'd give me the five bucks off (apply it to the game purchase) if I preordered it, but I didn't want to preorder it as I'm not buying the game from them.

Those of us in the local retail industry would like to thank you for doing all of your business directly instead of through our outlets.

We need the extra time unemployment will bring when we have to colse down to play more games. Please keep it to yourself when you no longer have a local store to shop in or trade in old games. (we won't be around to care)

the retailers make enough money from other merchandise so stop complaining

besides it's the customer's choice to decide where to buy goods they need or want

True, but IMO I think it's stupid for people to order off the internet when they live in a city where they actually have these stores. I know I would like to have a Gamestop by me.

Game Stop is the biggest rip off ever. They give you like 5 dollars credit then resale the game for 40 dollars. I'd rather buy a new game for $45 instead of $50+tax off Amazon then resell it myself for $25.

Down with middle men...we don't need you.

That’s what I figured why buy the starter kit that is offered on the online gamestop page when there is a store in town. Problem is the stores are clueless about the package right up until of the events.

-----

Factions someone screw the pooch, this time with nightfall they lost the pooch and just screwed what was in front of them. Gamestop stores don’t know anything unless the people that work there play Guild Wars other then that’s it’s like talking to a brick wall. I preorder and I made sure that it included the full version and the pre-release bonus pack, what I got instead was to pay an extra five bucks for the pre-release pack.

Can’t wait to see how bad they screw up the next chapters release, should we start a pool?

Perhaps if the retail industry didn't complicate the process of buying from them, and then charge us above and beyond what the company does, we would be more eager to seek their services.
Until I pay what it's worth (and only a little extra for their profit), and don't have to deal with the hassle of the unorganized results of their laziness, I have no sympathy for this foretelling of their unemployment. Whatsoever.

Pre-ordered from Gamestop. Did it online. $54.99 for Nightfall + Bonus Pack, totaled to $63 with tax and shipping. Need to confirm them with a call tomorrow though, as they said that can't be positive that they have the Bonus Pack in stock. Seems better than Amazon. Not sure when the Bonus Pack is coming though...need to ask about that as well.

Pre-ordered mine from Outpost (fry's online) for $39.99 and they gave me the presell for free. Of course, the presell shows backordered to, so I hope I get it.

BTW, this deal is dead, although you can still pre-order just the game for $39.99.

QFT.....

Ffs, all they have to do is stay informed. When the public is more informed than the retail outlet, it's bad. It makes the retail outlet look like lazy, ignorant morons. It's bad management. Bad management = decreased sales (customers go to more informed sources) = decreased profits = closure. It's not the customers fault that you will be out of a job when your store closes. It's yours. If you had performed well and at a fair price, customers will support you. People still like to see another person when they make a transaction. You only have to work a little.

I did try Best buy, hell went to the too stores that aren't that fair from me and neather had them, so i waited a day and went to fr'ys and they had a crap load of them in stock. Not true. I checked fry's and now they want more for Nightfall. The shiping is no longer free, although cheap. And the game itself is like $46 which+shipping is closer to $50 Amazon charges. I rather spend 4 extra bucks, but order from a company which despite delaying orders and shipping dates, still can be trusted to deliver your order safe and sound.

Also, Amazon now has the pre-order pack for $5. With the cheapest shipping it's $9.97. I rather spend 5 extra dollars, then spend 30min driving to Circuit City/Best Buy/Comp USA and standing in a long line, just to find out they dont have it in stock, or dealing with a dumb salesman who doesnt know what Nightfall is.

I havent seen a preorder box, only pre release bonus packs at stores. Can you show me art work for the "pre order " box. Because I don't believe there is one.

Also Best buy just shipped my pre release bonus pack I got my notification today via UPS ground. They had been sending me back order notices once a week. I guess they finally are in.

Strangely if it was a headset piece that they would put it out for sale as an open item. I use to work for best buy, and any device that basically goes on your head/in your ears, headphones, headsets, whatever, they were sent back to the manufacturer/field destroyed, because of hygiene purposes.
