I'm just wondering do ANET even do anything about scammers? I see the same people in ToA scamming for weeks on end, even talking to other runners the same names pop up again and again. Are we wasting our time, in submitting a support ticket? Would love some sort of official word on it.

If you got scammed what did you do about it? Reported it? Put them on ignore? Quietly sob in the corner?

Runners?

Dude you do know the definition of Scam right?

Wtf running is not scamming.

If your scammed, scrn shot the event, collect names and then pass it on to Anet but remember the do have bigger fish to fry sometimes.
And learn the difference between being scammed and a runner!

Running is not scamming. Its only scamming if they don't complete the promised run. And you can be seen as a scammer if you do not pay for a completed run.

As for scammers in general. Its NCsoft that handles the support issues not ANet.

I think he's talking about people going on runs and then not paying. Afaik Anet will not punish these people even if you screenshot it and report it.

As for people scamming others out of money via trade and other tricks its really down to the situation.
All you can do is SS and report, if its worthy of a ban it will be handed out.

Is it a scam or was it you that should have checked the transaction before hitting the accept button? (I hope the baby is ok)

A-net can not police every transaction in game, if the buyer or seller is in such a hurry that they don't look over the item or the amount, amounts to same as walking away from a cashier and leaving your change behind,
Slow down, relax.

Heh, lately there seems to be an increase with people saying "OMG! ******* just gave me an ecto! if you whisper him he might give you one!" instead of hanging them out as scammers.

that's a way to see it...

one's thing for sure, Anet is doing nothing about this sort of things, even if you provides screen shots showing the price you both agreed on, the transaction, other players witnessing that the guy tryied the same thing on them at the same time, etc.

I've been had once, a long time ago, but a guildmate told me he saw the guy online since then.
can't wait until he removes me of his ignore list. wish those where shorter.

The real question here is if Anet or NCSoft should even do anything about a scammer. In almost every case the person being "scammed" is at fault. If you are to lazy to check that everything in the trade window is right then it is your own fault.
Being scammed as a runner is different since you have no way of knowing if someone is going to pay you at the end of the run.
There is an easy way around being scammed though. Don't run others or get ran anywhere, don't trade with people in game, if you do trade in game then PAY ATTENTION.
I think there are more important things in the game that need to be taken care of instead of anet babysitting a bunch of lazy people.
Just my opinion of course...

I agree with thargor, takes you 2 seconds to check if people is paying you gold or plats.

Yestarday this idiot tried to give me mursaat tokens instead of ectos , i just laughed at him lol.

Anet did a great job with the trading windows, as i've never heard of a exploit in it. If the only thing the scammed can do is blaming himself, it doesn't make the scammer any less dishonnest.
Maybe the staff got other things to do, but letting the scammers run free just make the game less enjoyable to play. Anet may loose some customers, If they'r told beforehand that they'r tons of jerks in the community, and that scammers are bassically encouraged to continue.

Hoppefully we'll see a real trading system coming some day...
'Cause you know, a guildmate used to make fun of me and to say the same things as both of you, until he sold something for 100g instead of 100k...

TOA Ecto-gold scammers are becoming a real nuisance. 9 out of 10 people who 'WTB ecto' offer gold lately, instead of platinum.

Because I loathe spending time spamming the trade channel to sell my stuff, I just hold on to it until I spot someone wanting to buy when I'm in town for some reason. That's really not working anymore, I'm wasting even more time trying to sell that way. It's gotten so bad that I'm developing a tendency to automatically click the cancel button on the trade window.

Screw those guys.

Back to the OP's question: No, you are not wasting your time by reporting misbehavior of any kind. Anet/Ncsoft might do nothing visible to you or the community, but they will investigate an account with multiple complaints and punish persistent scammers. They will not give back anything you lost, whether gold or items, as they have no way to determine the truth of your particular report (a scamming transaction can be faked between partners).

With enough complaints They will assign an employee to watch that account's characters. That employee will submit a report and if the decision is reached that that account-holder is guilty of persistent scamming, his/her account will be banned. Bans are usually for a few days the first time, increasing in length for future violations. If the account-holder continuously breaks the rules, his/her account(s) will be permanently banned and registration of a new account forbidden.

Playing since release, I think only one person has ever tried to scam me, and it was the "g" instead of "plat" trick. I said, "lol", and he changed it to plat, so maybe it was even an accident.

If you get scammed by the Gold for plat trick, you deserve it.

There is no grand trick or gimic, like other scams.

And every time I hear about it I always laugh.

As for Anet banning small time scammers, they have more important things to do beside making sure you know how to reason a description.
Like banning haxors and gold bots.... oh and this thing callled Nightfall, it kinda important.

Well back when I started I got scammed quite a few times. All those scams I've reported: The scammers still run around online (added on my friends list to track their ban status) causing havoc and denying they scammed me..............

Scammers NEVER get banned.......If I didn't think scamming was morally wrong, I'd be one myself..............

Lol! I came across one in Old Ascalon a few months back who was scamming the usual Runescape-for-GW gold stuff - when I challenged him on it he gave me a load of bragging and abuse via whisper. So I screenied it, sent it in and lo and behold! Haven't seen him on for months (I put him on my friends list to keep an eye out... )

No idea if it was Anet that banned him or if he just stopped coming on but hey, a result is a result...
