That sounds like the Temple of Balthazar. If it's taking you there; you must have a PvP only character in which case he's right where he should be.

What Play Now at what site?
I don't quite understand what you mean, or what you're asking. Can you be a little clearer?

You can assign a key to "target nearest item" btw, then all you need do is hit that key followed by space.

Click on an item with the mouse pointer to pick it up.
I'm thinking you really want to create a Role Playing (PvE) character instead and learn the game that way. You can leave your new PvP toon and after logging in start a new character and pick the box on the left for a RP toon.

I agree....if u are brand new to MMO's u need to create a PVE character and learn how to move, attack, cast spells, set skill bars, attribute points etc.

You started in the "Isle of the Nameless".
The town beside you is "Great Temple of Balthazar".
If you look around the island of the nameless, or just press "M" for the map You'll see "Random Arenas" - This is where PvP characters go. Once you win there a few times other arenas will open to you.
BUT, I also suggest you make a PvE character first, It'll make your Guild Wars playing life ALOT easier. When you make a character, the first option given to you on the screen is "Roleplaying Character" or "PvP-Only Character", click Roleplaying Character, Then click the campaign option that matches the campaign you bought (Either "Guild Wars Factions" or the original Guild Wars).
After you choose the characters class, Appearance, etc - You will be started off in a "Training area" that teaches you how to play the game, and you'll be able to take quests and level up your character. Listen to all dialogue given to you and those pop up blue notes, and remember NPCs with !'s on their head give quests.

Ok,
You conviced me. I'll try a role playing character, but can I be an Archer??
Thanks,

It sounds like the Isle of the Nameless. New PvP characters now start there.
You must take the quest from the guy with the ! on top of his head to get the 4 warriors to move so you can go down the stairs to the training area.
Down those steps and to the right is a bridge where yu can cross over to the Temple of Balthazar where you can meet some real people that can help you with the PvP (Player vs Player) competitive areas.
That is only part of the game. Create a new Prophecies or Factions character and you will get a level one character in a tutorial area to help you learn the game. Then branch out into the PvE (Player vs Environment) roleplaying areas of the game.
