There are so many threads like this, just search, it should currently be around 2.5-2.75 GB's, and no larger, IF Its larger than that you still have 'old' files in your .dat - that will be removed with time..

My GW Dat was something like ~4GB. I deleted the .dat file, and then did a -image. My .dat is now 4.29GB.

Anything higher than 2.7Gigs needs to do a fresh install of the Dat file.

Gaile reported a while back that a bug discovered in march was the culprit. IT has been fixed.

So...

1. Delete your Dat File and redownload with the -image switch.

2. Follow these instructions on this page to fix the dat file you have already:

I decided I'd delete my dat file and use -image today to see if I could get the file down to the size it's supposed to be.

Imagine my surprise when I checked the total file size a short while ago:

mine is 8.8gb after deleting gw.dat and redownloading

I find it hard to believe nightfall almost trippled the size.
