The only way to really become good at making builds and stuff is through trial and error. Try different things and see how they work together. Basically what I always try to do is make sure I have some damage skills, a self heal, and maybe some damage reduction or defensive stances. I'm no expert on build making either, but I'll usually throw some skills together and try it out, and then maybe tweak it as I go through the game. Some important things to consider for warriors I think is energy vs adrenaline. Adrenaline skills are great because they don't sap energy, but it's nice to have some energy based skills to use to help build the adrenaline, so I usually balance my build in this way. Then also it's helpful to have a look at the area you're running. If the mobs in the particular area are giving you a lot of conditions, then something like plague touch in the above build would be great.

Plague Touch isn't much use in Factions. Henchies are pretty good at removing conditions and most of them aren't too debilitating anyway. If your going up against Naga, you need Wild Blow.

Probably doesn't make too much difference, but personally I like bringing an energy based attack or two for when I don't have adrenaline and so on. Cyclone axe is nice, especially in Factions where there are usually lots of mobs closer together. You do damage to numerous guys with it, and gain more adrenaline. Also, you probably don't need all those damage attacks. I'd say maybe take one out and replace it with some kind of defensive skill. Maybe watch yourself which gives more armor to the whole group, and is good to use with healing signet. Also, can't go wrong with a speed boost skill, something like sprint maybe. Rera

Triple Chop and Cyclone Axe are great if you have a zealous axe. Eviscerate i use to worship... but its starting to seem quite useless now tbh in PvE. Spikes don't matter all that much in PvE, DPS can often win it for you and some don't heal against Dismember style spikes anyway... bit of a wasted elite really. Not to mention if Cyclone/Triple hit enough targets all your adren skills charge instantly.
Triple Chop Cyclone Axe Executioners Strike Wild Blow or Disrupting Chop/Distracting Blow or Dismember IAS of choice (Tiger Stance is never a bad choice, once NF is here, Flail ftw) Utility - Watch Yourself? Utility - Shields Up? Healing Signet? or use this for Dismember Res If you play smart you can completely avoid been hit by Throw Dirt. Hold a staff/wand till they use it on someone else or just let it run upto you and instantly hit Distracting Blow, other than that you don't really need to worry about conditions since the hench remove most quickly. I still prefer Dragon Slash sword builds though now. Much more damage than the axe to single targets. Arkantos

Axe Wielding W/N? I'm LIKING this OP... *cracks knuckles*
Well, as an axe user for about 90% of my gaming life here in GW and GW: Fact. there's a niche where the axe will always prevail in most situations, depends on the foes but all in all acceptable... [5% being sword and 5% hammer, usually for solo farming or minor pvp] Axe drops the feared Deep Wound at the drop of a hat. 5a. now for dismember is quite good, DAMN good when considering the Sword's need for Sever into Gash, a total of about 8-9 adrenaline. Even though the sword is the king of dps [was it ever NOT?], the Lord of the "where'd my hp suddenly go" phrase should always remain with the Axe. Even against other warriors [in PvE and PvP when they're all that's left standing], the Deep Wound spike will make the 100AL+ people break into a sweat when it lands, it hurts a LOT, even vs. hi AL. When I get hit with DW spikes by anything, I must say, it's NOT fun... For PvE, some excellent ideas for axe attacks are as follows: Triple Chop {E} - It's like hundred Blades on armor ignoring Steroids Cyclone Axe - Triple Chop before he worked out at the gym. Dismember - if you don't have... Eviscerate {E} - lost a total nine [9, NINE DAMNIT] hp in the nerf... but quite feasible, maybe to rebuff it, they can lower it's Adren. cost to 6... Executioner's Strike - the hardest unconditional non-elite weapon strike in the game as far as armor ignoring damage is concerned. +42 is a real BigITCH [ignore the 'ig'] Furious Chop - if you don't have Exe. Strike I guess... Disrupting Chop - not as 'fast' or on demand as disrupting blow, but it's free and can skill lock. Fair trade if you ask me. Stops all Res skills dead in their tracks, or other big cast spells that actually matter. Axe Rake, Twist, - the deep wound condition follow ups. Not all that good since they don't actually 'hurt' the target... Lacerating Chop - FINALLY WE CAN DEGEN. But KD only? NUUUUU!! Don't ignore the /N part of your character. Plague Touch isn't the only reason a Warrior can be deadly in combat [that is, if you don't mind spreading into /n section] Blood Magic - great for early game, when hp totals are low, but when they get too big late game, it's quite junky and too expensive. Death magic - 90% corpse use, 199% too expensive for a warrior's e. pool Soul Reaping - you're no necro curses - my specialty. Curses alone make you decent at [but not the best] at every type of disruption in the game. You've got EVERYTHING from e. denial to hex degen, to condition epidemic spreading. Wanna know how efficient Curses is? Here are some DAMN good skills a cursed warrior should consider. [curses being 0] Shadow of Fear - 20s. of slower attack speed AoE. WTB?! It lasts it's recycle time, is AoE, 10e. and since the recycle time is long enough, you'll have energy to spare! Parasitic Bond - curses only affects it's healing, but the fact that it does 40 armor ignoring damage, is cheap, and fast recycle, makes it the cover hex of choice. If you're crazy, you can spam it on four seperate enemies and use 10 curses for some healing, but again, that's if you're crazy... Rend Enchantments - works till you can replace it with Gaze of Contempt, which truely owns any enchant users like Dervish and Boon Prot. 0 curses still causes a nice loss of 5 enchants and the hp hit isn't that big a deal if you're monk is awake. [curses being 10] Enfeebling Blood + Shadow of Fear - the tank of the Apocalypse. I swear, you can tank several melee at once and if you have Victory is Mine!, the duration of weakness vs. the recycle time is a work of art [aka perfect ] No melee squad in the universe can stop you [unless you get interrupted] once these two spells leave your e. pool. Malaise + Wither - junky when compared to the e. loss skills of say, Fear Me! or a mesmer, but if your foe is going to hit 0 energy, you'll know it, and when you do, you know your chance of winning is higher... [sure you can focus swap, but even then, that only buys time, doesn't give you infinite energy, thank goodness] Weaken Armor - 20AL is like being hit by crits all the time. Not good. What's worse, this is catastrophic for 60AL casters. 40AL is downright instant kill for 3 axe crits. Make sure your teammates can cover it ^_^ jesh
Weaken Armor is cool, but I find it a little useless in PvE. Sure your group gets one target down real fast, and then what? There's still 10 more where that came from. If it was AoE I'd gobble it up. I never looked into Shadow of Fear since Enfeebling Blood always looked so much better... 50% vs 80%, respectively..
But at 0 curses, that's a wow. The only thing I'd be leary of is having an SS necro, they'd be pissed. Haha. For PvE I have to say you had BEST bring Cyclone Axe. Even without a zealous mod, this skill can recharge all your adrenaline skills in 1 attack. Of course it's not always that great, but since when is AoE damage+adrenaline gain+hp/sp gain a bad thing? This skill, and it's variant Triple Chop, really shine with zealous and vampiric mods. Dismember I never leave without anymore, since the 5a buff. The rest is really up to you. Lately I've been bringing Rush instead of an IAS simply because it's free and lasts longer. I can keep up with runners going for my team's monk and land some crits. (yes this does happen in pve) Bring Watch Yourself if you have nothing else to put there. *shrug* The only reason I'd chose a different elite than Triple Chop is for Victory is Mine! This skill is just awesome. Enfeebling Blood and use Necrotic Traversal when the first body drops. It solves the problem of having a non-sucky heal and gives you energy you can waste on other things. Of course it's a more defensive skill.. I wish there was more energy based warrior attacks that weren't crud. I would love a clone of Executioner's but with a 5e cost instead. Make the recharge 4. Why not? Anyways yes.. must bring skills: Cyclone Axe Dismember Res Sig The rest is up to you. Interrupts can help your team immensely, I bring Distracting Blow quiet often. (it will give you adrenaline for each enemy it hits too, which I didn't know until recently) IllusiveMind
I just got this shield and I want to try a W/N build too. I was thinking Virulence or Consume Corpses for AB. Any Ideas?

It's ok.. I generally use it for pve/pvp because i'm too lazy to change the build in say fort aspenwood or RA. I do like Swift Chop instead though, almost perma DW on monks in pvp
AH EDIT: I have found a better substitute for Axe Rake if you don't like it, Axe TWIST! Great Anti-Melee skill as well as useful for covering Deep Wounds after an Eviscerate. |
