For those that have high end systems...How much is your electic bill?

I use a 450Watt power supply...and I just recieved a $50 electric bill for 9 days.

Does my 7900GTX really eats up that much energy?

i guess it does unless you have your lights running at all times or something...

the power supply wattage will affect your bill a little... a standard TV consumes between 50/70watt per hour.. so a TRUE 600 watt PSU, for 1 hour will be the equivelent of 12 TV's @ 50 watt for an hour, it does use more the componenets inside, only matter if they draw alot from the PSU, hence upping the wattage useage of the PSU..

You PSU is not consuming its max potential wattage at all times -- only at high loads. I don't know how far off that is from your usual power bill, but I would look elsewhere for a cause. Been running the heat or AC?

My computer has a 500w PSU and the effect on my bill is pretty neglible. The big ticket item is electric heat.

Since bumping up to a 450watt myself I only saw a 12 dollar increase in my electric bill...and Im not even sure if its from that...

Yes my electric bill is huge, but I have my computer on 24/7. Really should turn it off at night. :z

The wattage for a power supply only gives you the maximum wattage that the supply can provide. It does not tell you how much it consumes.

However, that video card is rated as consuming 89 watts. So it is taking up about 1/5 of the total wattage your supply is capable of providing. But it can get worse, the X1950 can consume up to 125 watts. And the various SLI systems consume even more.

Unless your power price it outrageous, I would not look to the video card for the cause of your rise. Computers do not use a lot of power, unless you leave them running 24/7. And even then it can depend.

I leave my computer(s) on 24/7, and my power bill only runs around $75 a month total. But in summer with AC use, it does spike up to $125.

i have a 420W enermax psu. It doesnt affect my electric bill though- And not only do I keep my computer on 24/7, its got a few neon lights, my guildwars client is on afk when i sleep/work, although I only have an x1600pro gpu

Id actually wonder if there is some kind of malfunction/short in your house wiring?? That seems way too high even with your system... and one person I know said they had some work done on their house's electrical system; the guy didnt do it right and they got a $300 electric bill.

I seriously doubt its your computer... as the main problem at least...
