energy problems

my brother had a dervish during the preview event and the main problem seemed to be a lack of energy. i dont know if he kept running out because of low mysticism or what but what have you guys done to fight the average energy and low regen of the dervish?

Dervish have the same regen as any other caster. I didn't run out of energy as dervish either. Just make sure enchants are on you and reapply when they expire, or pick skills with less energy.

But I had some energy problems, too. Chilling Victory is rather expensive...

It looks like Scythe-attack builds might have some issues - in fact, I'd say a Zealous mod would be near-mandatory for any that want to spam attack skills. (Twin Moon Sweep, Wounding Strike or even lots of Eremite's Attacks)
Other options include Lyssa's Assault combos, Meditation and Raging Renewal (which is what I'm going to test personally).
Pure caster versions, as mentioned, don't have much trouble with energy regen. The max energy storage could be an issue, though - which might drive them to +5 energy scythes, or (at worst) wand+offhand specced to their secondary class.

You could always take enchanter secondary and pick up mantra of recall. Kinda has some nice synergy with a dervish.
To be honest though, I don't think energy will be much of a problem. Only a couple of abilities that have a cost of 15, most have 10 or 5. Most of the 10 cost spells you only cast every 20 seconds or so. With a few 5 cost enchants and 12 in mysticism, i don't think energy will be a problem.
