Ranger/X Solo Troll Farming
Black Ops Ranger
Yes it is possible and you dont have to be in the middle of the action.
Atributes:
What ever you can muster with most points in Expertise and WS
Equipment:
Full Druids and an +15 energy Staff (koles torment is nice)
Skills:
1.Spike Trap [E] (pretty much an optional slot trappers focus is nice too)
2.Flame Trap
3.Dust Trap
4.Barbed Trap
5.Dodge
6.Throw Dirt
7.Whirling Defense
8.Serpents Quickness
Procedure:
1.Get to the troll cave by anymeans necessary (thats what dodge is for)
2.Find a safe place to trap away
3.Cast Serpents Quickness and commence to trapping
4.Trap till Serpents Quickness ends and recharges again
5.Lay one more set of traps after you cast SQ a second time
6.Lure the tolls onto the traps, use Whirling so they dont kill you while your luring, and watch them go boom
7.Use Throw dirt and Whirling Defense as necessary if any problem arises (i.e. if any are left, if you can break agro on the ones outside, or any other miscillaneous problems)
You will kill everyone occasionally, but you will always kill atleast one or two
Rinse, repeat and thats that
Comments, Questions?
Please no flaming, I will listen to suggestions, but not if you flame.
Also please tell me if this has already been said I didn't find it when i looked, but I might have missed it somewhere.
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL apparently

Everything except the nonelite traps and SQ is optional.
Take Throw Dirt or something out. Spike Trap can even go, you aint gotta go with an elite.

Just found out Taking EoE doesn't work very well since either they all die at once or your screwed anyways
Usually... Anarion Silverhand
Winnowing works great as well..
blkadr
eoe only does so much, i take along either ew for qz, as they allow more traps to be set, and gets more damage in than eoe does. with that said, good simple build. "just in case' i bring troll for if I get stuck or dodge is still recharging
Black Ops Ranger
Since the new Nightfall updates screwed up Warrior Troll farming
You might wanna check this out...hint...hint If you are lucky enough to get Smoke Trap from Nigthfall that might be nice too Nestaron
I've been using a similar build to this for the past several months(round about Feb/March), always thought trapping was more fun than 55ing or warrior soloing.
Solo UW trapping is abit more fun and challenging though... That said i'm not sure if solo UW is still doable after tht AI update... my troll build was Spike trap Dust Trap Flame Trap Barbedtrap QZ (47 seconds) EW (46 seconds) Whirling Defense Troll Unguent(or dodge if i was feeling lazy just to make the run to the cave quicker) WS: 12 + 1 + 3 EXPT: 12 +3 BM: 2 Basically lay a marker on the ground(any item will do), cast QZ then EW... Lay traps until spirits die then lure trolls onto traps casting WD in the process. If you get a good lure you can blow a silly amout of trolls up this way... Bloodied Blade

The only thing I would have considered it for would be DoT, since you don't get much benefit from single-pulse dmg with it. It doesn't affect Dust Trap (earth dmg) or Flame Trap (fire dmg).
I wish they had another DoT trap in nightfall... edit: and an above poster made a good point. EoE really doesn't help much anymore (no dmg unless 90% hp or below) and that makes it so that the only time you need EoE dmg would be when you were really close to taking out the mob...and you wouldn't get any dmg without any traps left, unfortunately. I can see some nightfall/factions spirits working well with this though (Toxicity and Lacerate are 2 I can think of off the bat, Brambles being another if you were to set a line of spike traps for some random reason). Personally, i'd be taking Vipers Nest for extra degen instead of spike, even with BM2 it'll poison enough to kill any stragglers

To be honest i forgot Vipers Nest even existed... I'm definately seeing your point. With an Elite slot being freed, i think i may have to draft in Escape in place of Whirling Defense... It give's the speed boost of Dodge to get to the cave, and gives you the protection of Whirling Defense...

I'm not a ranger (yet), but it seems to me that setting one barbed trap in front of the others would be a good idea. Assuming the trolls come running at you in a line, this would slow down the first half of them, and hopefully the whole group would hit the big pile of traps together. This might give you a better chance at the "everything dies at once" case.

3 man UW trapping works great at very least, done a couple of guild runs.
I was running Vipers, Dust, Flame, Barbed, EW, Whirl, Serps, Rebirth 7BM (6+1, 11 Exp (10+1), WS16 (12+1+3) 2 other guildies on Spike, Dust, Flame, Barbed, QZ, Serps, Throw Dirt, Rebirth 13 Exp (12+1), WS16 (12+1+3) Again, with vipers nest the aataxes die much "cleaner", we only had one that was wandering around blind and poisoned for a few seconds. Vipers is less effective against grasps and smites, but 32dmg is still nice for each trap. Camel Sausage
In response to Progor:
Thats the primary reason whirling is in the build, so you can run a couple of rings around the trolls while they bunch up ready for a one trap trigger I've yet to try it, but it should be nice to see trolls go up in fire, dust and poison Black Ops Ranger

One problem with UW anything-ing is you have to have favor
Ive tried adding Viper's Nest b4, but replacing spike is a bad idea if you ask me The spike trap is useful for a little delay time if you are combat trapping if everything goes down the drain Thow Dirt is also needed in case you dont kill them all at first Another reason not to use Vipers Nest is because then you would need to put some points in BM While my build focuses on Expertise and WS only thus maxing damage and energy management Nestaron

You may find it helps YOU but it's not needed as i've never struggled without it. At the most i sometimes have is 1 or 2 stragglers but basic kiting or losing aggro briefly takes care of them. My Build is 16 WS and 15 ExpT yet i still have points let over to increase BM by afew ranks... But i never take it above 2 because of EW. The piercing damage may not be great on Vipers, but the poison degen mixed with bleeding is highly effective. I just tested it not so long ago and i actually found it smoother than when i used Spike Trap. http://youtube.com/watch?v=iLql33Di-0U Bloodied Blade
Still surprised that people aren't using Trapper's Speed from Nightfall. It owns Serpent's Quickness in usefullness of trapping. Viper's Nest is also highly redundant in all trapping builds because degen should never be your source of damage when trapping. If you're relying on an extra 4 degen to save you, you need to re-evaluate your skill at trapping.
Black Ops Ranger
I thought about trying trappers speed i just haven't yet
I made this build a month before the Nightfall release date was even officially announced But ya ill have to try that Bloodied Blade
You'll love the skill. It makes traps into ez-mode. ...and fast-trap is fun.
