I tried searching the forums but didn't get any hits. So, does anyone know if there has been a test to see which shield prevents more damage?

Theoretically if the -2 damage effect is on the whole time you are recieving physical damage it would be -2 for every hit. So out of 100 hits, 10 damage each you would receive 1000 dmg - (100 x 2) = 800 dmg recieved 200 dmg prevented.

With 20% chance to get -5 damage the same 100 hits for 10 damage each would mean 1000 dmg - (100 x .20)5 = 900 dmg recieved only 100 dmg prevented.

Can someone comfirm my math, if correct the -5 vs phy dmg is inferior.

-5 vs phy dmg is indeed inferior.

However, the other sets are conditional, while the -5 is a passive modifier. if you can guarantee you'll be enchanted or in a stance, then by all means get those. -3 while hexed is generally only used for farming builds, because for general play, any other set would outpace it's efficiency because without meeting the condition, you're basically wielding a shield with max armor.

Agreed. The -5(20%)/+30 is good to have when you have to fight and you're not gonna be hexed or use stances (like killing Tundra Giants on an IDS run as a W/Me). It's better than the Bulwark for that IMO. The CC collector hex and stance shields are otherwise always better, at least for PvE.

Thanks for the responses. I asked cause I was contemplating on purchasing a 'green' Exalted Aegis tac/str but it just seemd the stats weren't as good. I guess I'll buy an Exalted with a +hp -2 (whenever).

Collector's ftw! Weakskins ftl!
