Prices and Nightfall
Lichme2
If you all recall, when Factions came out, the price of ecto dropped to like 3K and the price of black dye rocketed to 15K. People were busy buying materials for their new armor, and it stayed like this for about a week.
Any predictions on wheter this is going to happen again? Should I sell my ecto and invest in something else? Perhaps black dye. Especially with halloween coming out, people will be dying their armor orange and black, and I predict that prices for those 2 dyes will rocket.

black is already going up becuase people are buying it for nightfall. Ecto will go down i beleive becuase everyone will be playing nightfall, so its a good idea to sale now. But you never now.
Quid Pro Quo
Actually prices for black dye never fully recovered.
Last time I quit guild wars the prices for black were 7k then I cam back after factions and the prices were 10k.

the 10k black dye was actually caused by the dragon mask, it went down again to 8k, and...what's the current price?

I think that Black Dye went up again after the Nightfall WPE. Last time I checked it was 10k. But it was 13k during the event.

Yeah Ecto will never go down, people will still waste their money on ugly FOW armor.
Mister_Smiley
ok that is true, also black dye is at 12k and i wouldn't be suprized if it dosn't keep going up. but ecto will drop a few k when nightfall comes out.

Ecto will stay the same imo, the fall in price for ecto for Factions releae was due in part to the increase drop rate of Rubies and Saphires, and the rumours of them being the new Ecto/Shard material for Factions.
Since nothing has happened this time to spark rumours of new materials being rarer than ecto/shard I doubt the price will alter too much.

...On the contrary. Ecto will probably never fully lose it's value, so the idea would be to ride out the price fluctuations now, buy them up in a month's time when they're cheap, and then just sit on them until the prices normalise again for some serious profit. |

Part of the reason I believe that A.net introduced the material storage was to henge off a material price influx in NF. Now there is no reason for any causal player not to just hang on to 250 hides/cloth/etc cause they have the storage anyway. There will be a material price increase again since everybody will be buying new armor, but it won't be as dramatic as in Factions cause more people are expecting it this time and stocking up on materials. Only new players and non-farmers/VERY causal players will be seriously hurt by the price spike.
As for ectos, prices for ectos dropped because less people were buying FoW but instead buying the new Factions armor. Also, people were selling ectos in order to get quick cash to use on making their 2 new characters and buying new armor, which cause the price to drop. Once the novelty of the NEW NF equivalent of warrior kurzick 1.5k/15k (which is on like 80% of the warriors now), price of ectos will rise again. It would be stupid to sell them now cause they will just rise back again. Ectos will always be in high demand and with a limited supply. Paperfly's idea is a good one. Buy them up when the price drops and then wait out until prices stabilize.

Black dye is going to go up every man and his dog wants to dye their dervish armour black to get the grim reaper look that is going to be oh so unique...
As for ectos, price will drop again - this time I don't think they will drop quite as much, good time to buy

I've collected more black dye from UW darknesses than any other single creature in the game (currently at 10).
Also, ecto will probably maintain its current value since there will be two new Nightfall classes to outfit with FoW armor.

It does look good. I know I will consider it, or maybe black + some color.

Black dye pricess will plummet, eventually costing probably 3-5k... People with Nightfall may be selling the Black Dye they get from getting people to do "to dye for" over, and over, and over, and over with 3 new characters and a level 20... But eventually people will wise up, and they'll be selling to the dye collector. Once that happens, Black dye will be at a price point people can afford to mix it and not feel like they just wasted a ton of money.

I'm not sure what to do about NF. I held onto ecto expecting the price to go up with Factions release, since I thought everyone would be getting the Assassin and Rit FoW. Maybe Paragon & Dervish FoW will be nice enough to make the prices rocket... I sure hope so.
Black dye, common materials and vigor runes is what I've invested in so far. In the preview dervish and paragon armor required tanned hides and the price rocketed. I expect the same to happen in the first few weeks of NF. Certainly can't hurt to have common materials stockpiled, anyway and if I don't sell the vigor runes for a profit I can always use them on my characters' or heroes' armor.

Meh, as Obsidian Armor loses its appeal because the 15k armors are quickly becoming really good, I think that ecto will drop in price significantly. (Unless obsidian armor is upgraded with fancy effects and stuff... I think it should be)
Ole Man Bourbon
I looted two black dyes yesterday.
Back on topic, what is going to be the deal with armor crafting materials? What's gonna be hot? I already have about 3k cloth stockpiled, which I'm gonna keep, but I'm not sure if I should dump wood and such. I looked at guildwiki for an idea of the crafting materials that will be used, but only a couple of types of armor were described.
